Mon Jul 27 201518:17Tyler Clippard: Dealt to the Mets
Clippard has been traded to the Mets for right-handed pitcher Casey Meisner.
In 37 appearances for the A's, Clippard has posted a 2.79 ERA and 1.19 WHIP -- the latter mark is his highest since 2010, but he presents a much-needed upgrade to a Mets bullpen that has lacked depth all season long. Presumably, he'll work as part of the bridge to Jeurys Familia upon arrival rather than push for the ninth-inning role.

The Oakland Athletics traded relief pitcher Tyler Clippard to the New York Mets on Monday, according to the team's official website. The A's received right-handed pitching prospect Casey Meisner in exchange for Clippard, who will likely serve as a late-inning options for the Mets rather than usurping the closer role from Jeurys Familia.

Clippard blew his fourth save of the season, giving up a run on one hit and three walks while striking out two Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Clippard blew his second straight save opportunity in the ninth. He loaded the bases with no outs before striking out former A's star Josh Donaldson on a 3-2 pitch for the first out. He then walked Jose Bautista to force home the tying run before retiring the next two batters. Oakland still managed to win the game, but back-to-back blown saves is a cause for concern.

Clippard worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth on Tuesday for his 16th save.
Clippard struggled with his control, allowing two walks and then going 3-0 to Mark Teixeira, but managed to find a way to get it done. After a slow April where Clippard only had one save, he has become a solid fantasy option and has only blown two saves all year. He will continue to close games for the A's unless he is dealt at the trade deadline (which has been rumored) and in that case, his fantasy value will be determined on what role he has with his new team.

Clippard struck out a pair en route to a four-out save Wednesday against the Rockies.
Despite the extended outing, Clippard needed just 18 pitches to do the deed. Bob Melvin hasn't been afraid to turn to him in a tight spot, as three of Clippard's last four saves have been of the four- or five-out variety. He's got a stranglehold on the Oakland closing job for (at the very least) most of what remains of this season, with Sean Doolittle expected out until August at best due to a shoulder injury.

Clippard went 1.2 innings and gave up one run while striking out three to record his 12th save of the year in a 3-2 victory over the Angels on Sunday.
Clippard was inches away from a blown save, as a long flyball off the bat of Johnny Giavotella nearly found itself over the left field wall for a two-run homer, but Sam Fuld made a nice catch at the warning track. The A's closer came on for starter Scott Kazmir with one out in the eighth inning, and struck out Mike Trout before serving a home run to Albert Pujols on a 3-2 pitch. The homer was the first Clippard has given up since May 17 and the third he's allowed this season.

Clippard gave up one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings Saturday to pick up his 11th save of the season.
After struggling with his control early in the year Clippard seems to have made an adjustment, and his 8:1 K:BB ratio in 6.1 June innings looks more like the dominant reliever he was in Washington. With Sean Doolittle (shoulder) out until August, if he's even able to return this season at all, Clippard should remain a solid second-tier fantasy closing option.

Clippard threw a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts on Tuesday night to earn his eighth save.
After struggling badly for save opportunities through most of the first two months of the season, Clippard now has four saves in the last six days. Clippard lowered his ERA to 2.31 and with Sean Doolittle back on the DL with shoulder issues, he should remain the A's closer for the foreseeable future. Although a small sample of only 23.1 innings, the one concern on Clippard so far this year is his 5.0 BB/9, nearly double his 2014 walk rate.

Clippard navigated around a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday against the Yankees to earn his seventh save of the season.
The 30-year-old hasn't seen many save opportunities this season because of Oakland's terrible start, but he has done a nice job filling in for the injured Sean Doolittle and is now 6-for-7 in save situations. Doolittle will be out for at least two more weeks after re-injuring himself Wednesday, so Clippard should continue to serve as the team's closer.

Clippard allowed a run on Thursday night, but managed to work around it to earn his fifth save.
After retiring the first two hitters, Clippard made it interesting by walking Garrett Jones and allowing a double to Brett Gardner. He was able to retire Chase Headley to end the game, but it was a fly ball that Billy Burns caught on the warning track. Clippard has been the victim of very few save opportunities so far this season and it is currently unclear when the A's will go back to Sean Doolittle in the closer role.

Clippard locked down his fourth save, throwing a scoreless ninth with two saves on Monday.
After a one-save April due mostly to a lack of opportunities, Clippard has three saves in May and has only been scored upon in one May outing. With Sean Doolittle on a rehab assignment, it is possible Clippard's days as closer are coming to an end, although it is not yet clear if the A's will slot Doolittle in as the closer right away upon his return.

Clippard recorded his third save on Tuesday night, recording five outs in a one-run game against the Twins.
Clippard earned this save, entering the game with a one run lead and men on first and third with one out. He allowed no runners in his 1.2 innings and struck out two. Clippard has only had four save opportunities through the first month with the A's and has converted three of them. He will remain the closer for the A's until Sean Doolittle returns from injury, but it is not yet known if the A's will put Doolittle in the closer role immediately upon his return.

Clippard picked up his second save with a clean ninth inning as Oakland defeated Texas 7-5 on Friday night.
The A's haven't afforded him many save chances, but the outstanding set-up man will continue to get the ball in the ninth inning until Sean Doolittle returns from the disabled list later this month.

Clippard blew the save and took the loss on Sunday, allowing two earned runs over 1.1 innings.
Clippard entered the game in the eighth inning and got out of a jam, but then blew the save in the ninth allowing a two-run double to Evan Gattis. Clipprd was hurt by a poor decision by Brett Lawrie on a ground ball that should have been an out, but allowed the double to Gattis on his own. This was only the second save opportunity Clippard has had this year and he was not able to convert it. He will hold down the role until Sean Doolittle returns from injury, likely in mid to late May.

Clippard walked a pair of batters, but navigated through a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season.
Working with the buffer of a three-run lead, Clippard walked Erick Aybar before he struck out C.J. Cron. After Chris Iannetta flew out, Johnny Giavotella drew a walk before Clippard got Kole Calhoun to fly out to left field to end the game. Clippard will hold the closer's role for the A's until Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is ready to return from the disabled list, and he'll likely see more save opportunities in the coming weeks after a number of lopsided games has prevented him from finishing close games in the early weeks of the season.

Clippard took the loss on Sunday after entering the game with a tie score and allowing a solo homer to Nelson Cruz.
Clippard is serving as the A's closer while Sean Doolittle rehabs his shoulder, but the A's have not provided him with a save opportunity through the first seven games.
Fri Mar 27 201514:06Tyler Clippard: Confirmed As Closer
A's manager Bob Melvin confirmed Friday that Clippard will start the season as the team's closer, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Clippard was the obvious favorite, with Sean Doolittle (shoulder) out until late April or early May. Once Doolittle is ready, Clippard will likely get most of his work in the seventh or eighth inning.
Wed Feb 11 201518:21Clippard agreed to one-year contract with Athletics on Wednesday...
Clippard agreed to a one-year contract with the Athletics on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration.
Clippard will likely begin the season as the Athletics closer as Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is not expected to be ready for Opening Day. It's unclear exactly how long Doolittle will be on the shelf, but Clippard may not have solid footing in the role with both Eric O'Flaherty and Ryan Cook available as well. However, it appears that Clippard remains the frontrunner at this point to hold the position, and if Doolittle suffers a setback or can't return to form, he could have more save opportunities than initially expected.
Fri Jan 23 201519:04Clippard appears in line to open 2015 as A's closer
With Sean Doolittle (shoulder) not expected to be ready to start the season, Clippard appears in line to open 2015 as the A's closer.
The A's acquisition of Clippard last week is looking all the more important in light of Friday's news regarding Doolittle. While a firm timetable for Doolittle's return has not been set, he has been diagnosed with a slight rotator cuff tear and the expectation is that his recovery will push into the regular season. It appears Clippard, who saved 32 games for the Nationals in 2012, is the frontrunner for save opportunities, ahead of the likes of Eric O'Flaherty and Ryan Cook.
Wed Jan 14 201519:56Clippard traded to Athletics pending physical
Clippard has been traded to the Athletics pending a physical, Jon Heyman reports.
Clippard has been one of the most consistently good relievers in baseball in his career, and a fan favorite in D.C. He will move on to an Oakland bullpen where he could slot in as the set-up man over Ryan Cook. If something happens to Sean Doolittle, Clippard also has closing experience from 2012.
