Randy Wells (forearm) is headed to the Cubs' complex in Arizona to continue his rehab.

Mon May 2 201120:51Wells (forearm) throws bullpen session
Randy Wells (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday in Los Angeles.
The Cubs are pleased with Wells' progress from a right forearm strain, so a minor league rehab assignment can't be far away. There's a chance he's back with the Cubs near the end of the month.

Randy Wells (forearm) threw from 90 feet on flat ground Wednesday without issue.
Wells was placed on the disabled list after the first week of the regular season with a right forearm strain. He should soon progress to throwing bullpen sessions, then he will head out on a minor league rehab assignment. The righty is at least 10 days away.

Tue Apr 19 201119:38Randy Wells ahead of Andrew Cashner
Although they're both scheduled to start a throwing program Friday, the expectation is that Randy Wells (forearm) will likely return sooner than Andrew Cashner (shoulder).
It makes sense. Wells has already been able to play catch, and he is simply waiting for the inflammation in his forearm to dissipate, while Cashner will have to build up some strength in his rotator cuff. There's currently no timetable for either at the moment, though it seems likely that both will be back sometime in May if all goes well.

Tue Apr 19 201118:14Wells (forearm) to begin throwing program
Randy Wells (forearm) will begin a throwing program Friday.
Wells was cleared after being examined by a physician Monday. "It will be real light throwing," said Wells. "It's going to be 60 feet and about 20 pitches to start with." Wells hopes to start throwing from a mound in two weeks, though there's no clear timetable for his return.

Fri Apr 8 201117:08Cubs place RHP Wells (forearm) on 15-day DL
Cubs placed RHP Randy Wells on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 5, with a right forearm strain.
Wells felt some pain in his forearm after tossing six innings of one-run ball against the Diamondbacks on Monday. Similar to his teammate Andrew Cashner, Wells will be shut down for about two weeks before being reevaluated. If all goes well, he could be back by early May.

Wed Apr 6 201111:13Cubs' Wells to go on DL with forearm injury
Randy Wells will go on the disabled list with a forearm strain.
Just what the Cubs need. Wells tossed six innings of one-run ball in Monday's win over the Diamondbacks, so this certainly comes out of nowhere. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry stressed that the injury was to his forearm, not his elbow, but we're awaiting further about the severity. Casey Coleman is expected to fill one of the vacant rotation spots, but they still have to make a decision on the other.

Mon Apr 4 201117:31Wells strikes out six, allows one run to AZ
Randy Wells limited the Diamondbacks to one run over six innings Monday in the Cubs' 4-1 win.
Wells surrendered six hits and walked four, but he operated well in damage control against an underwhelming Diamondbacks lineup and finished with six strikeouts. The 28-year-old had a nice April last season and may be a decent flier in mixed leagues next week against the Brewers.

Fri Mar 25 201118:25Randy Wells turns in another nice outing
Randy Wells went 5 2/3 innings against the Mariners on Friday, allowing five hits, three runs and three walks while striking out eight.
He wasn't as sharp as he was when he allowed just two hits in six innings against the Giants last Sunday, but still looked fairly impressive. He's now struck out 23 batters in 25 2/3 innings this spring while posting a 2.10 ERA, and looks set to get off to a hot start this season after he went 3-0 with a 3.45 ERA last April.

Sun Mar 20 201118:25Randy Wells dominates San Francisco
Randy Wells mowed down the Giants on Sunday, allowing just two hits and one run in six innings of work.
He struck out seven. Wells' spring ERA is now 1.35 through 20 innings of work. It could mean nothing, but is still great to see after he finished out 2010 on an inconsistent note.

Tue Mar 15 201117:51Wells solid again for Cubs
Randy Wells put forth another solid effort Tuesday, holding the Rockies to three runs -- two earned -- on three hits and a walk over five innings.
He struck out a pair and saw his spring ERA rise to 1.29, as they're the first earned runs he's allowed over 14 innings. Wells has the No. 4 spot in the Cubs rotation pretty much on lockdown with his performance along with his competitor's struggles thus far.

Sat Mar 5 201117:43Wells fares well in relief Saturday
Randy Wells gave up only an unearned run on three hits over three innings against against the Padres Saturday.
Wells came on in relief of Andrew Cashner and was more effective than the youngster, walking one and striking out a trio of Padres. Though he's posted a 3.71 ERA over 59 starts the last two seasons for the Cubbies, Wells has not been guaranteed a spot in the rotation. It would be a pretty big upset if he doesn't grab one of the spots, though.

Thu Sep 30 201000:51Cubs' Wells takes loss to Giants
Randy Wells lost to the Padres after giving up three runs in seven innings Wednesday in his final start of the season.
Wells threw just 56 of his 110 pitches for strikes and walked four in losing for the second time in September. He ends the year 8-14 with a 4.26 ERA. The Cubs stuck with him throughout 2010, but he should have to battle to keep his rotation spot next spring. We won't be recommending him.
Wed Sep 22 201023:14Wells stays hot in win
Randy Wells tossed 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball in Wednesday's win over the Giants.
Wells is suddenly on fire with two wins, 11 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed in his last two starts. After a mostly disappointing season, this ending will send Wells into the offseason with confidence. He's on the deep-league radar as a bounce-back candidate for next season.
Wed Sep 8 201023:25Wells takes loss against Astros
Randy Wells took his 13th loss Wednesday night when he yielded four earned runs over six innings against the Astros.
Wells has dropped six of his last seven decisions and that fantastic April is a distant memory. He's not going to get much better spots than today and the fact that he has walked 12 batters in his last four starts in concerning. Leave the righty alone in almost all formats.
Tue Aug 17 201022:52Wells is the tough-luck loser on Tuesday
Randy Wells hurled seven innings of one-run ball but was a tough-luck loser against the Padres on Tuesday.
Jon Garland was flummoxing Chicago's hitters on the other side, so Wells will have to settle for a loss. Wells was spectacular, though, allowing just three hits while striking out six and walking three. He's been inconsistent this season and is just a passable NL-only starter. Wells is 5-11 with a 4.44 ERA and will take those number's into a weekend date with the Braves.
Thu Aug 12 201018:54Cubs' Wells gives up three homers
Randy Wells served up three home runs balls while allowing seven runs -- six earned -- in five innings Thusday against the Giants.
Wells managed to avoid a fourth straight loss because of the Cubs' comeback, but his ERA jumped back up to 4.60. He's been terribly inconsistent this season.
Sat Aug 7 201016:12Wells takes loss vs. Reds
Randy Wells yielded three runs in seven-plus innings in a loss to the Reds on Saturday afternoon.
A tough one to take. Wells limited the Reds to just one run over the first seven innings, but gave up a leadoff solo home run Drew Stubbs in the the top of the eighth. The third run scored after Wells was relieved by Justin Berg. All told, Wells yielded just five hits while striking out three and walking two. With three consecutive losses, Wells has dropped to 5-10 on the year. He'll try to turn things around against the Giants next week.
Tue Aug 3 201000:04Wells takes loss vs. Brewers
Randy Wells was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- over four-plus innings in a blowout loss to the Brewers on Monday night.
The six earned runs matched a season-high. He actually managed to keep the Brewers off the board until giving up five runs -- including a three-run homer by Casey McGehee -- in the fourth inning. Wells was pulled after giving up consecutive singles in the fifth. It was the first time he had allowed more than three earned runs in a start since June 23. Despite Monday's poor outing, don't shy away from using him against the first-place Reds this weekend. He held them to one run over 7 2/3 innings on July 3.
