Janish (elbow) is taking ground balls daily and he is targeting game action on March 20 or 21, MASN Sports reports. |
If Janish can meet his March 20 or 21 deadline, he should be in good shape to be healthy for Opening Day. Still, there is a strong likelihood that Janish will serve as organizational depth even when healthy. |

Janish (elbow) will take ground balls Tuesday, MASN Sports reports. |
It looks like there is a 50/50 chance Janish will be ready for Opening Day, if he can make the roster. He would need to overcome Ryan Flaherty and Jayson Nix, which does not seem likely considering Janish has a best case scenario of playing in just a couple spring training games. Tuesday will mark Janish's first baseball activities as he recovers from elbow surgery two weeks ago. |

Janish was a deep sleeper candidate to win a utility infield job with the Orioles this spring. He has 431 MLB games to his name, but Janish spent all of 2014 at Triple-A while hitting .268/.323/.359. Janish is known for his glove and not his bat. The Orioles now look at Triple-A as a foregone conclusion if Janish accepts the assignment. |

Hardy already solidified at shortstop, Janish's sites will likely be set on a bench spot out of spring training. |
