Fri Aug 29 201423:48Doubront (calf) activated from disabled list to start Saturday
Doubront (calf) has been activated from the disabled list to start Saturday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Zach Rosscup was optioned to Triple-A (and subsequently recalled as the 26th man for Saturday's doubleheader) to clear space on the roster, while the Cubs are apparently going to use a six-man rotation to get a look at Doubront as a starter in September.
Mon Aug 11 201417:22Doubront (calf) will make first rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on ...
Doubront (calf) will make his first rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.
Doubront has been throwing bullpen sessions and facing live hitters over the past week without incident, so he'll move ahead in his recovery process by testing himself during game action. He'll be eligible to return from the DL whenever the Cubs deem his ready, but it seems likely he'll have to settle for either a long relief role or an assignment to the Triple-A rotation once activated.
Sun Aug 3 201415:19Doubront (calf) threw successful bullpen session Sunday
Doubront (calf) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Doubron will apparently travel with the team to Colorado and throw a couple more side sessions en route to his return to the mound. He will likely be able to join the rotation when he is first eligible August 13, but his role for the team is undetermined between being in the rotation or pitching out of the bullpen.
Thu Jul 31 201417:42Doubront will be placed on 15-day DL with right calf strain
Doubront will be placed on the 15-day DL with a right calf strain, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
There was some thought that Doubront might receive the chance to join the Cubs' rotation following Wednesday's acquisition, but the team evidently wasn't comfortable with where he at on the health front. He'll be eligible to return from the DL on Aug. 13, after which the Cubs will have to decide whether to use him as a starter or in long relief.
Wed Jul 30 201417:48Cubs get Felix Doubront from Sox for PTBNL
Cubs acquired LHP Felix Doubront from the Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Doubront posted a rough 6.07 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 59 1/3 innings this season for Boston and asked for a trade request when the Red Sox pulled him from the rotation. He has good raw stuff and should get a chance to start in Chicago, but the lefty remains a poor fantasy bet.

Wed Jul 30 201415:25Felix Doubront: Traded to the Cubs
Doubront was traded to the Cubs on Wednesday for player to be named later or cash, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports.
Boston's patience with Doubront seemed to have worn thin recently, as he was banished to relief following a disastrous run in the rotation. His tenure in Boston ended with a six-run blowup over just 0.2 innings Monday vs. the Blue Jays. The lefty has curiously seen his velocity decline in the last couple of seasons, but still is just 26 years old and would seem to have some upside. The Cubs struck gold in acquiring Jake Arrieta for a pittance at last season's trade deadline, and can only hope Doubront similarly benefits from a change in scenery. With the Cubs still trying to fill a few rotation voids following the trades of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, look for Doubront to receive an opportunity to start again at some point this season.
Wed Jul 30 201415:14Cubs acquire Felix Doubront from Red Sox
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Cubs have an agreement in place to acquire Felix Doubront from the Red Sox.
Doubront has fallen out of favor in Boston, but he should get his wish to start again with the Cubs. The lefty holds a career 4.82 ERA, but he's just 26 and has a career 8.1 K/9 rate, so it's probably worth a shot for Chicago if they don't give up much.

Mon Jul 28 201423:06Felix Doubront lit up in relief
Mopping up after Clay Buchholz was pulled, Felix Doubront gave up six runs while getting just two outs in the sixth inning Monday against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox brought Doubront in with the idea that he'd pitch at least a couple of innings and maybe even finish the game. Instead, he gave up six hits and two walks to the 10 batters he faced, throwing 36 pitches in the inning. It's possible that it was his last outing with Boston, as he'd like a trade if he's not going to be a starter, but it's quite a bit more likely that he sticks around and gets another chance to start later this year.

Sun Jul 27 201413:52Doubront wants trade if not starting
Felix Doubront said Sunday that he'd rather be traded if he's not going to start for the Red Sox.
"If something happens, it's going to happen because it's going to be the best for me," he said. "I just want to be a starter and stay there. If I stay (with the Red Sox), they have to know I have to be a starter. If I go, the other team is going to give me this chance to be a starter." Doubront has little to complain about here, as he holds a 5.22 ERA this season and a pedestrian 4.70 mark during his career. Manager John Farrell indicated that the lefty isn't going to be starting again for the Sox anytime soon. "There's a clear role for him in the bullpen and sometimes performance guides where you're slotted," the skipper said.

Fri Jun 27 201417:02Felix Doubront won't start next week
Felix Doubront will not start next week versus the Cubs as previously expected.
Doubront had been expected to make one more start in order to get other rotation members some rest. However, with Chris Capuano being designated for assignment, Doubront is needed in long relief right away.

Tue Jun 24 201420:09Red Sox move Felix Doubront to bullpen
The Red Sox have moved Felix Doubront to the bullpen.
He's expected to get another start next week against the Cubs, but that's merely to give the other starters some extra rest. Brandon Workman will remain in the rotation at the expense of Doubront, who holds a 5.19 ERA over 10 starts this season. Workman will start on Friday versus the Yankees.

Sat Jun 21 201401:46Felix Doubront gives up three runs to A's
Felix Doubront overcame a three-run first to hold the A's scoreless for the next 3 2/3 innings Friday in his return from the disabled list.
Doubront didn't allow a hit after Josh Donaldson's three-run homer in the first, but that was as much due to luck as anyway. He wasn't all that sharp, and his velocity was disappointing, as he typically worked below 90 mph. If he's no better next time, the Red Sox should strongly consider sending him to the pen.

Fri Jun 20 201419:21Red Sox activate Doubront from 15-day DL
Red Sox activated LHP Felix Doubront from the 15-day disabled list.
Doubront, out for about a month with a left shoulder strain, will return to start in the place of the suspended Brandon Workman on Friday against the Athletics. It's unclear if he'll remain in the rotation moving forward. The southpaw had a 5.12 ERA and 31/19 K/BB ratio in 45 2/3 innings over nine starts prior to going on the DL.

Thu Jun 19 201418:50Felix Doubront to start on Friday for Red Sox
Felix Doubront (shoulder) will start on Friday against the Athletics.
He's taking the turn for Brandon Workman, who is serving a six-game suspension. It's possible Doubront will be sent to the bullpen after Friday's outing, as both Workman and Rubby De La Rosa are pitching well. Fantasy owners should steer clear of him against the A's.

Sun Jun 15 201414:54Felix Doubront whiffs 10 in rehab start
Felix Doubront (shoulder) struck out 10 and didn't allow a hit over five innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday.
Doubront walked four, needing 93 pitches to cover the five frames. Still, it has to be considered a positive showing for the left-hander in what is expected to be his final rehab start. Brandon Workman or Rubby De La Rosa are likely to be bumped from the rotation later this week to make room for Doubront.

Tue Jun 10 201421:33Felix Doubront to make one more rehab start
Felix Doubront's (shoulder) rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday is expected to be his last.
Doubront gave up six hits and two runs over 4 2/3 innings in his second rehab outing Tuesday, getting his pitch count up to 75. Neither stat line has been impressive, but the Red Sox have been pleased with how the lefty has looked. "The more important thing is watching him in his bullpens between the two outings and leading up to it, and hearing him talk about how he feels the ball is coming out of his hand," said manager John Farrell. "Clearly, there's improvement being made. But we know our plan is to have him go one more start with Pawtucket to have him get up and down six different times, and that will be five days from now."

Sun Jun 8 201409:14Felix Doubront to make two more rehab starts
Felix Doubront (shoulder) will make at least two more rehab starts.
Doubront allowed two runs but didn't walk anyone over four innings at Double-A Portland on Thursday. He'll go five frames on Tuesday and six on Sunday at Triple-A Pawtucket before being re-evaluated. The lefty should be activated after that if all goes well, but it's probably not a given that he rejoins the big league rotation.

Tue Jun 3 201417:15Doubront (shoulder) cleared for rehab starts
Felix Doubront (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A Portland.
The left-hander is expected to make at least two minor league rehab starts. He has been on the disabled list since May 21 with a shoulder strain and had a rough 5.12 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 45 2/3 innings before the injury.

Mon Jun 2 201421:48Doubront (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Felix Doubront threw a bullpen session on Monday.
Doubront's been out since May 21 with a left shoulder strain. While a date hasn't been set for Doubront to begin a rehab assignment, manager John Farrell indicated that they'll continue to ramp up the number of pitches for the lefty. "We'll start to incorporate some simulated innings before we get him out on a date for a rehab assignment," Farrell said. Before the injury, Doubront was sporting an ERA north of 5.00, and it remains to be seen whether he'll be pitching in the rotation or bullpen once he returns.

Thu May 29 201419:03Felix Doubront (shoulder) throws long-toss
Felix Doubront (shoulder) is scheduled to throw long-toss Thursday.
Doubront landed on the DL a week ago with a left shoulder strain, an ailment that came up as a result of him bumping his shoulder on a car door. He shouldn't be out long, but it's not a given that the lefty will rejoin the rotation once healthy.
