Tue Jul 8 201418:22Tyler Thornburg (elbow) not progressing
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday that Tyler Thornburg (elbow) has yet to make much progress.
Thornburg has already missed a month of action with a right elbow injury, so it's obviously discouraging that little progress has been made. It's not clear at this point whether the reliever has tried to resume a throwing program. Obviously, he shouldn't be expected to rejoin the Brewers' bullpen anytime soon.

Thu Jun 26 201419:19Tyler Thornburg (elbow) making progress
Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash said that Tyler Thornburg (elbow) took a step forward with his rehab Thursday.
The right-hander isn't throwing yet, but apparently he's making progress with other aspects of his rehab. Thornburg will obviously need to resume throwing from a mound before a clearer timetable can be established.

Sun Jun 8 201409:38Thornburg rehabbed UCL tear in high school
Tyler Thornburg (elbow) said Saturday that he successfully rehabbed a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament his freshman year in high school.
Thornburg hasn't had any issues with the elbow until recently, as he was placed on the DL Saturday with right elbow soreness. It's possible the ligament finally snapped, but more won't be known about his status until he undergoes further testing. "I think it's always a possibility," Thornburg said of a possible UCL tear. "We've done tests and stuff, and of course it's only a manual test and it's not going to tell you everything, but it feels fine. We'll see for sure."

Sat Jun 7 201419:45Brewers place RHP Thornburg on disabled list
Brewers placed RHP Tyler Thornburg on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hinted that something could be amiss with Thornburg before Saturday's game, and the issue appears to be serious enough to warrant a trip to the DL. Thornburg has been good in a middle relief role for the Brewers this season. Mike Fiers was recalled to take his spot in the bullpen.

Sat Jun 7 201416:44Thornburg sidelined with undisclosed injury
Tyler Thornburg is sidelined with an undisclosed injury.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke ensured it isn't the right shoulder that's giving Thornburg trouble. "He's got some other things going on so he will not pitch today," Roenicke said Saturday. "Some physical things. We'll find out a little bit more." Thornburg was pounded for five runs in an inning of work on Friday, and it's unclear whether the injury caused the bad outing or vice versa. Either way, the injury may require a trip to the disabled list. Thornburg had a 2.83 ERA in 28 2/3 innings before Friday's drubbing.

Thu Apr 10 201422:15Tyler Thornburg pitches perfect inning
Tyler Thornburg pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two Thursday in relief against the Phillies.
The Brewers could have sent Thornburg back to Triple-A to keep him stretched out as a starter, but they opted to try him as a reliever instead and the results have been terrific so far; he has a 1.29 ERA and a 9/0 K/BB ratio in seven innings. With his velocity up, he should remain very useful in that role, giving him value in NL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 9 201420:56Thornburg fares well in first spring start
Tyler Thornburg fared well in his first Cactus League start on Sunday, surrendering two runs on three hits in his four innings of work.
Thornburg struck out a pair without issuing a walk. The only damage against him came on a two-run homer by Justin Ruggiano in the first inning, but settled in nicely afterwards. With a strong showing this spring, he's expected to secure the fifth starter's spot in the Brewers Opening Day rotation.

Sun Jan 12 201409:41Thornburg the favorite to be No. 5 starter
Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that Tyler Thornburg "will get a chance in the spring to show he can handle the fifth spot" in the Brewers' rotation.
GM Doug Melvin has also indicated that he hopes Thornburg runs away with the No. 5 job. "We had the development of (Wily) Peralta, which was a huge step for us," Melvin said. "I'm hoping that the development of Thornburg will take place as well. He's deserving of having that opportunity. We have to do that with our younger players and be patient. Sometimes, it's tough to be patient." Thornburg, 25, posted a 1.47 ERA over his seven starts with the Brew Crew last season. He's flyball-prone and many feel he's better suited for relief, but there's some deep league sleeper potential here.

Tue Sep 24 201321:56Thornburg gives up two runs in no-decision
Tyler Thornburg allowed two runs over seven innings in a no-decision against the Braves on Tuesday.
The Brewers ended up losing the game, but it was no fault of Thornburg's. The right-hander allowed two or fewer runs for the fourth straight game, allowing seven hits and a walk in the game. His eight strikeouts were a season high. The rookie is on pace to log one more start this season, and he makes for a nice streaming option against the Mets in New York on Sunday.

Tyler Thornburg threw six scoreless innings in the Brewers' 7-0 win over the Cubs on Wednesday.
The Brewers moved Thornburg back into the rotation recently and he's showing why, as he limited the Cubs to just two hits and two walks on the evening. The win moved him to 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA in 59 2/3 innings this year. Despite his success, his start at the Braves next week is not a great option for fantasy owners.

Sat Sep 7 201312:02Tyler Thornburg will start on Wednesday
Tyler Thornburg will start for the Brewers when they take on the Cardinals in St. Louis on Wednesday.
No word on whether the Brewers will keep the six-man rotation with Hellweg and Thornburg for the remainder of the season, or if it's a fluid situation. Either way, he makes for a bad spot play on the road against a hot-hitting Cardinals offense.

Fri Aug 30 201318:21Tyler Thornburg starting Monday vs. Pirates
Tyler Thornburg will start Monday against the Pirates.
In turn, Tom Gorzelanny has been bumped to the bullpen. Thornburg has compiled a 1.99 ERA and 25/18 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings over three starts and 10 relief appearances this season. He could have some relevancy in NL-only leagues the rest of the way.

Sun Aug 18 201308:46Thornburg moves to Milwaukee's bullpen
The Brewers have reassigned Tyler Thornburg to the bullpen.
It's a curious decision, as the rookie right-hander posted a microscopic 0.50 ERA in three starts with the Brewers. Overall, Thornburg, 24, boasts 1.69 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 24/13 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings. His demotion makes room for Yovani Gallardo, who was activated from the disabled list on Saturday, to return to the rotation. "Whether he ends up as a starter because we need a starter or he ends up in the bullpen - we've liked him out of the bullpen - I know he has started and had some nice games for us, but I don't think you can forget about what he did in Triple-A (0-9, 5.79 ERA in 15 starts)," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "Three or four starts, it's hard to tell on somebody." Tom Gorzelanny and Marco Estrada remain in the rotation.

Tyler Thornburg allowed two runs -- one earned -- in six innings but took a no-decision against the Rangers on Wednesday.
Thornburg deserved better but was let down by his bullpen. The right-hander gave up five hits and three walks in his six innings of work. Despite the no-decision, he still owns a shiny 1.69 ERA in 37 1/3 innings, including three starts, this year. He's a strong option in NL-only leagues while he continues to receive starts. His next turn will come Monday against the Cardinals.

The talented 24-year-old is a streaming option this weekend in Seattle.

Tyler Thornburg spun six scoreless innings in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Cubs.
Thornburg walked three, but he permitted just four hits and struck out six in the spot start. The right-hander now boasts a 2.22 ERA and 1.19 WHIP during his time with the Brew Crew and should stick around as a long man in the bullpen.

Sun Jul 28 201309:28Tyler Thornburg to make spot start
Tyler Thornburg is expected to start one of the games during Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs.
That's assuming he's not needed in relief before then. Thornburg has pitched well in his stints with the big club this season, posting a 2.95 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over six appearances. He threw 79 pitches in a four-inning relief stint last Wednesday, so he shouldn't be limited from a pitch count perspective Tuesday.
