Alberto is in the lineup for the Rangers' ALDS matchup with the Blue Jays on Friday, Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports.

Alberto replaced an injured Adrian Beltre (back) at third base during Thursday's game, and he will do the same in Friday's lineup with Beltre unable to play a full nine innings. Alberto will hit ninth against Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman.

Alberto will get the start at second base Wednesday and bat ninth in the order.

Rougned Odor will miss Wednesday's game after sustaining a finger injury, so Alberto will fill in at second base. The 22-year-old Alberto has yet to collect a hit in five at-bats since being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock last week and he'll have the tough task of trying to break that mini-slump against David Price on Wednesday.

Alberto will basically take the role of the man he's replacing, Adam Rosales, as a utility infielder. He played decently over 24 games with the Rangers earlier in the season, going 18-for-73 without a home run. The 22-year-old doesn't provide much power, but did post an average of .310 and an OBP of .331 at Triple-A Round Rock this season, earning him another shot with the big league club.

Alberto was sent down to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

The return of Delino DeShields (hamstring) from the DL left the Rangers with no room to carry Alberto, who had seen his playing time decline following the promotion of Rougned Odor from the minors. Alberto is only 22 and stands to benefit from playing regularly, so the Rangers determined it wasn't ideal for his development to serve as a lightly-used bench bat with the big club.

Alberto went 3-for-4 Saturday with a double and a run scored.

He's now hitting .344 (11-for-32) in eight games since being called up, and Alberto appears to be locking down the Rangers' starting second base spot. Tommy Field started out hot before fading as well though, and Alberto's minor league track record doesn't suggest a lot of fantasy upside, so don't blow your FAAB budget trying to add him to your roster.

Alberto will start at second base and bat ninth Saturday against the Red Sox, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

After going 1-for-3 with a triple in his debut Friday, Alberto will start again Saturday, this time at second base rather than short. Tommy Field was designated for assignment, so the door may be open for Alberto to continue seeing starts, but Adam Rosales, Delino DeShields and perhaps Rougned Odor could all receive consideration for time at second base as well.

Alberto will provide depth in the infield, but he doesn't hit for power, draw walks or steal many bases. While only 22 years old, he hasn't shown any real signs of possessing long-term upside.
