Villanueva "might" try to fully participate in practice on Friday, and the veteran is clearly moving closer toward returning. Charlie Villanueva (ankle) finally returned to practice on Monday.
Villanueva has been irrelevant this season, but is slowly working his way back from injury. The forward remains out, but there is hope that he could return next week for the Pistons.

Charlie Villanueva (ankle) said he expects to begin making "basketball moves" later this week.

Sat Feb 4 201211:07Villanueva (ankle) out at least a few weeks
Charlie Villanueva's sore ankle will be 'partially immobilized' for the next few weeks, after which he will be re-evaluated.
After multiple tests and doctor visits, it has been determined that Villanueva has "resolving posterior tibial tenosynovitis with small talotibal spurs." It doesn't take a medical degree to determine that CV isn't anywhere close to being healthy, let alone productive.

Mon Jan 23 201219:20Villanueva, Bynum do not travel on Monday
Charlie Villanueva (ankle) and Will Bynum (foot) did not travel with the Pistons for their game against the Thunder on Monday, and until we receive word that they are close to returning we're calling them out indefinitely.
Villanueva is a total mess and there is no telling when he may return. At least Bynum's foot injury isn't also compounded by an extreme lack of conditioning. We'll update their status as soon as we get a report.

Mon Jan 9 201213:17Villanueva out again on Monday
Charlie Villanueva (ankle) will sit out Monday's game with his nagging ankle injury.
It was recently revealed that CV has been hurting since training camp began. X-rays were negative but he should be unowned in all fantasy leagues unless he starts having a pulse.

Sat Jan 7 201218:38Villanueva to have X-rays on ailing ankle
Charlie Villanueva is having X-rays on his ankle and will not play for Detroit on Saturday.
Fantasy owners should basically write off CV until he proves himself again, if that ever happens. He's out of shape, struggling defensively, and has foot problems, and he's yet to play five minutes in a game.

Sat Jan 7 201210:34Villanueva hopes to chisel into rotation
Charlie Villanueva's playing time has been severely limited due at least partly to defensive lapses.
"I'm going to be in the rotation," said Villanueva. "It's just a matter of getting into the swing of things." Between his poor defense and his injury history, and the solid play of starting PF Jonas Jerebko, there's really no reason to be optimistic about CV at this point. Leave him on the waiver wire.

Tue Jan 3 201201:25Charlie Villanueva debuts - for 38 seconds
Charlie Villanueva made his season debut for the Pistons on Monday, but played just 38 seconds.
Jonas Jerebko is feeling it and while Villanueva should negatively impact his numbers slightly when he gets back in the rotation, we see no reason to hold Villanueva right now in most leagues.

Mon Jan 2 201220:24Report: Villanueva dealing with foot issue
Charlie Villanueva is dealing with a foot issue, though it's unclear if that is what is keeping him out of the rotation says beat writer Keith Langlois.
In other words, it's time to start heavily discounting him in his battle with an excelling Jonas Jerebko, who has taken the appearance of a must-add player. There's a little bit of risk here that Jerebko gets log-jammed between Villanueva and a struggling Austin Daye someday, but passing on Jerebko based on that is much too conservative.

Sun Jan 1 201219:10Out-of-rhythm Villanueva gets DNP-CD
Charlie Villanueva wasn't injured on Saturday, but he didn't play because he hasn't practiced with the team and wasn't in rhythm.
"He's fine," said coach Lawrence Frank. "He's dressed and ready to play but because he hasn't had practice and played with us, I'm going to go with the guys who have a rhythm." CV will slowly work his way into the rotation, but may have a hard time overtaking Jonas Jerebko for the starting PF job.

Sat Dec 31 201121:06Suspension over, but Villanueva still out
Charlie Villanueva's four-game suspension ended prior to Saturday's game but he was a DNP due to a minor, undisclosed injury.
CV hasn't been practicing with the injury, so he didn't get any run tonight. Consider him day-to-day, and look for more information on his injury soon.
