Fri Mar 8 201318:29Charlie Villanueva ready to go
Charlie Villanueva (hamstring) is expected to play in Friday's game against the Mavs.
Villanueva missed a chance for real minutes when Greg Monroe (ankle) was sidelined Wednesday. Now that Monroe is back, Charlie V will play his usual bit role off the bench.

Fri Mar 8 201311:46Charlie Villanueva game-time call Friday
Charlie Villanueva (hamstring) went through shootaround and is a game-time decision on Friday.
Charlie V was expected to play on Thursday, and since he went through shootaround, we can't imagine he'll take a seat on the sidelines. With Greg Monroe (ankle) also looking like he'll play, Jonas Jerebko will probably return to the bench and fight for minutes at power forward with Charlie V.

Thu Mar 7 201314:51Charlie Villanueva expected to return Friday
Interim coach Brian Hill expects Charlie Villanueva (hamstring) to play Friday against the Mavericks.
Villaneuva warmed up before Wednesday's game against the Knicks but was ultimately unable to play. Greg Monroe (ankle) is also expected to play Friday, but the two are being called game-time decisions. Jonas Jerekbo had 12 points and four rebounds as a starter Friday, but would likely return to a timeshare with Villanueva once he's healthy. Check back after tomorrow's shootaround for confirmation on Villaneuva's status.

Wed Mar 6 201318:54Charlie Villanueva won't play Wednesday night
Charlie Villanueva (sore left hamstring) will not play against the Knicks on Wednesday.
Villanueva warmed up before the game but didn't feel good enough to play. Greg Monroe (ankle) is also sidelined in a frontcourt already missing Andre Drummond (back). Look for a lot of Jonas Jerebko and Jason Maxiell against a Knicks team down Carmelo Anthony (knee) Wednesday. Viacheslav Kravtsov should also see some extra minutes.

Wed Mar 6 201311:43Charlie Villanueva a game-time call Wednesday
Charlie Villanueva is a game-time decision on Wednesday due to a sore left hamstring.
Villanueva has been splitting time with Jonas Jerebko in the battle for minutes at power forward off the bench, but he hasn't really been given a consistent opportunity to show much. If he sits, it would open the door for Jerebko to play big minutes with Greg Monroe (ankle) also a game-time decision.

Sun Mar 3 201322:22Villanueva posts rare double-double in rout
Charlie Villanueva scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds on Sunday, as the Pistons were defeated by 39 points in San Antonio.
Greg Monroe scored a team-high 16 points, while Jose Calderon added 14 points, but this game was a snoozer by halftime. In case you are intrigued by Villanueva's double-double, don't be -- the last time he scored at least 10 points, he followed it up with seven straight games in single-digits.

Sat Feb 23 201323:27Villanueva bottoms out, makes 1-of-11 FGs
Charlie Villanueva shot 1-of-11 from the field and committed five personal fouls in 25 minutes on Saturday, as the Pacers embarrassed the Pistons on their home court.
It was just two weeks ago that CV posted solid back-to-back games and people rushed to grab him off the waiver wire, but he's been predictably awful ever since. It's hard to fathom why Lawrence Frank would give a DNP-CD to Jonas Jerebko, as he did tonight, yet he'll allow CV to launch shots and hack away for 25 minutes.

Sat Feb 23 201300:05Villanueva scores two points vs. Pacers
Charlie Villanueva scored two points with four rebounds and a block in 15 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Villanueva has flashed some potential as a deep league asset but this is a definite blow to his fantasy value. Let him stay on the wire until he heats back up.

Thu Feb 21 201319:39Charlie Villanueva will pick up option
Charlie Villanueva said that he will pick up next year's $8.5 million player option.
"It's obvious what I'm going to do," Villanueva said. "Would you let that money go?" He's certainly right that no team is going to offer him more than $8.5 million next year. The 28-year-old forward was out of the rotation earlier this year, but an injury to Andre Drummond has launched him into a 25-minute-per-game role in his last six. He's worth a look in deeper leagues since he shoots threes and can help in defensive stats a little.

Wed Feb 20 201321:52Charlie Villanueva grabs nine boards in win
Charlie Villanueva had seven points, nine rebounds, two blocks and a 3-pointer in 26 minutes on Wednesday.
Villanueva has been all over the place recently, posting some good lines, some duds and some mediocre ones off the Pistons' bench. He's far from a must-own player, but is still seeing a big enough role off the bench that he might be worth a pickup if he can get hot.

Tue Feb 19 201323:21Charlie Villanueva hits 1-of-8 shots
Charlie Villanueva hit just 1-of-8 shots and missed all five of his 3-point attempts to finish with two points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocks in just 17 minutes on Tuesday.
Villanueva was apparently still on vacation after the All-Star break, and has become a hit-or-miss player off the Pistons' bench. He could get hot and turn it around at any time, but he's not playing well enough consistently to be in many starting lineups right now.

Thu Feb 14 201300:33Charlie Villanueva hit three 3-pointers
Charlie Villanueva bounced back Wednesday with 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks and three 3-pointers on 3-of-6 shooting in 29 minutes.
Villanueva had just five points on 2-of-7 shooting Monday, but is now averaging 13.75 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.25 blocks and 3.0 3-pointers over his last four games, which includes that stinker. He's getting solid run due to Andre Drummond's back injury and is worth owning in many fantasy leagues right now.

Mon Feb 11 201323:28Villanueva struggles in 20 minutes on Monday
Charlie Villanueva scored five points on 2-of-7 shooting in Monday's defeat, failing to hit a 3-pointer in 20 minutes of action.
This was the inevitable correction after his past two games, in which he averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 threes, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. CV was a hot pickup in the past few days, and he'll continue to play a sizable role with Andre Drummond (back) out of commission, but he's little more than a 3-point specialist with upside.

Sun Feb 10 201300:35Villanueva has 18 & 13, ices win w/ 3-pointer
Charlie Villanueva made a clutch 3-pointer to preserve Detroit's comeback road win vs. Milwaukee, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds and one block in 25 minutes.
The Pistons are tied for 11th in total rebound rate and they've relied on a solid interior presence all season, but Andre Drummond's fractured vertebrae may have changed the equation. Enter Villanueva, who is averaging 19.5 points and 4.5 threes in the past two games. Even when he's cold he spaces the court for Detroit's guards, and a reliable 20-25 minute role isn't out of the question.

Sat Feb 9 201300:30Charlie Villanueva explodes for 21 points
Charlie Villanueva made five 3-pointers in a win over the Spurs, scoring 21 points with eight boards and two blocks in 33 minutes on Friday.
He had season highs in points, triples and minutes in the win. His timing is impeccable to have his best game of the year with Andre Drummond set to miss at least one month and with Villanueva's upside for 3-pointers, he's worth a look in some deeper formats. He'll need to string together a couple games to be worth your attention in standard leagues and we'll be watching him closely against his former team in Milwaukee on Saturday.

Sat Feb 2 201300:57Villanueva scores 10 points on Friday
Charlie Villanueva scored 10 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 3-of-5 shots (including a three) with three rebounds, two assists, and four blocks in 18 minutes.
Interestingly, the Cavs took to hack-a-Charlie late in the game, as Villanueva is hitting under 30 percent of his free throws and hit just 3-of-8 shots tonight. As for CV's fantasy value, we're not breaking our back to add him in a limited role, but we will watch him to see if he can pick it up.

Wed Jan 30 201319:55Charlie Villanueva could see boost in PT
Charlie Villanueva could be a winner in the trade that sent Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to the Grizzlies.
CV can play both forward positions and the Pistons are now laughably thin there. Kyle Singler will probably start, but with Corey Maggette injured and old as dirt, Villanueva could see himself playing a lot of small forward from here on in. Keep a close eye on him once all the pieces are in place over the next week.

Thu Jan 17 201318:22Charlie Villanueva returns in bench role
Charlie Villanueva (ankle) scored five points and grabbed two rebounds in 12 minutes Thursday against the Knicks.
Villanueva had missed practice earlier in the week due to a sprained ankle. The former UConn Husky hasn't scored in double digits since a brief run of success to close out 2012 and it's hard to recommend him in most leagues at this point.

Wed Jan 16 201312:40Charlie Vilanueva's ankle feeling better
Charlie Villanueva missed Monday's practice with an ankle sprain, but he returned to practice on Wednesday.
Villanueva said his ankle is still "a little tender," but he's expected to play on Thursday when the Pistons take on the Knicks.

Thu Jan 3 201318:58Charlie Villanueva to appeal $25,000 fine
Charlie Villanueva will appeal his $25,000 fine for his flagrant foul on Isaiah Thomas
"He saw an open lane, I tried to block the ball and he's 4-foot-11, a 100 pounds wet so he looks bad," Villanueva said. "I'm not a dirty player. I didn't try to hurt him at all." He does have a beef since his right hand did look to make a play on the ball. Villanueva still might have a tough time winning the appeal, though.
