Wed Jan 2 201317:11Charlie Villanueva avoids suspension for foul
Charlie Villanueva was fined $250,000 by the NBA on Wednesday for a flagrant-2 foul during Tuesday's game.
The fine will hurt Villanueva's wallet, but he managed to avoid a suspension for the infraction. Villanueva has been warming up of late and is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

Wed Jan 2 201307:48Charlie Villanueva could be facing suspension
Charlie Villanueva could be facing a suspension for his flagrant-2 foul on Tuesday.
Villanueva delivered a hard foul on the diminutive Isaiah Thomas, and if Charlie V is forced to miss time, guys like Austin Daye and Andre Drummond would likely see an uptick in minutes.

Charlie Villanueva was charged with a flagrant-2 foul and was ejected from Tuesday's game.
Isaiah Thomas attacked the basket and ran right into Villanueva. Villanueva committed a hard foul, but his right hand looked like it was making a play on the ball. He finished with nine points, one steal, one block and three 3-pointers.

Charlie Villanueva scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting (including four threes) with six rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes off the bench on Friday.

Wed Dec 26 201223:40Charlie Villanueva scores 14 in loss
Charlie Vilanueva had 14 points, seven rebounds and four 3-pointers on 5-of-12 shooting in Wednesday's double-OT loss.
CV had 19 points, seven rebounds and three 3-pointers off the bench in his previous games, and is starting to get enough run to be given a look in some leagues. Lawrence Frank benched all of his starters after three quarters tonight, which is not something we expect to happen often. But Villanueva is at least worth keeping an eye on going forward.

Sat Dec 22 201221:49Villanueva scores 19 points off DET bench
Charlie Villanueva tied his season high with 19 points in Saturday's victory, his first game in double-digits since early December.
CV has been playing a steady 15-20 minutes off Detroit's bench. He's not a fantasy option in standard leagues, but is worth a look if all you need is 3-pointers, which make up more than half of his FG attempts. As a macabre reminder for Pistons fans, Villanueva has a player option worth $8.5 million for the 2013-14 season.

Tue Dec 11 201210:11Pistons, Frank praise Villanueva's game
Lawrence Frank praised Charlie Villanueva for his "high basketball IQ" and ability to stretch the floor.
After being an afterthought to begin the season, Charlie V is now a stable part of the Pistons rotation. "Just feeling good out there, making the most of my minutes, trying to maximize my time," Villanueva said. He's got seven triples over his last three games and is sinking 1.5 3-pointers per game this season.

Mon Dec 10 201222:24Charlie Villanueva plays 22 minutes
Charlie Villanueva had eight points, five rebounds, two steals and two 3-pointers in season-high 22 minutes in a 104-97 loss to the Sixers on Monday.
The Pistons went with C.V. down the stretch and he's been a much bigger part of the rotation lately. That said, it's hard to count on a guy that hasn't played more than 22 minutes in a game all year.

Sat Dec 1 201204:17Villanueva chills out on Friday vs. Grizzlies
Charlie Villanueva chilled out a bit on Friday, scoring nine points on 3-of-7 shooting (including two threes) with three rebounds, one steal, and one block in 15 minutes.
Villanueva did well to produce in the minutes he was given, but his tenuous role was the main reason we weren't too excited about his recent play. If you're in a 20-30 team league, he might have some value but he also might fall out of the rotation at any time.

Thu Nov 29 201208:09Frank likes way Charlie Villanueva is playing
Lawrence Frank likes the way Charlie Villanueva is playing currently and has no plans to remove him from the rotation.
"Charlie has played three very good games," he said. "It's not just the shot-making. It's other things there." Charlie V has scored in double-digits in three straight games, averaging a shade over 15 points during that span. He's also hit nine triples during that time, and while we still don't trust him, desperate owners can give him a look if in dire need of 3-pointers.

Wed Nov 28 201223:50Villanueva breaks out w/ 19 points in blowout
Charlie Villanueva came off the bench to hit 7-of-8 shots and four 3-pointers for a season-high 19 points, six rebounds and a block in an easy win over the Suns.
The teams cleared their benches in the second half and Villanueva took advantage of the extra minutes and played a season-high 21. He's hit double figures in three straight games, knocking down nine 3-pointers over that stretch. We still don't trust him, but if he keeps getting minutes and hitting his shots, he's worth a look if you need a big man who can hit treys.

Tue Nov 27 201203:09Charlie V scores 10 points in 15 minutes
Charlie Villanueva scored 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench on Monday, hitting 4-of-6 shots (including two threes) to go with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
This is great per-minute production and he had 15 points with three treys on Sunday, but we still need to see a lot more out of Charlie V to get behind him in fantasy leagues. Years of dormancy will do that to a player.

Mon Nov 26 201219:41Villanueva will stay in rotation, Jerebko out
Charlie Villanueva will remain in the Detroit rotation and replace Jonas Jerebko.
To be clear, this isn't necessarily a permanent move. C.V. had a nice outing on Sunday with 15 points and even hit three triples. He has been fantasy relevant before, but he has a long way to go before he becomes a pickup in anything outside of really deep leagues.

Sun Nov 25 201216:20Villanueva shows up with 17 points
In a surprising twist, Charlie Villanueva shot 7-of-15 from the field for 17 points to go with four rebounds and three 3-pointers in 19 minutes.
C.V. only played in two games so far this year and nobody really saw this coming. All of his stats listed above were obviously season highs. Unless you're in a 30-team league, you can leave the UConn product on the wire.

Thu Sep 27 201210:17Charlie Villanueva using boxing to prepare
Charlie Villanueva is using boxing to prepare for the upcoming season.
Charlie V needed to get in better shape during the offseason, and he finally appears committed to doing exactly that. The veteran denied that he was cut from the Dominican Republic team over the summer, and is using rumors of him being a potential amnesty clause candidate to fuel him for the campaign. He's still not on the fantasy radar.

Thu Sep 13 201212:46Charlie Villanueva reportedly 'in good shape'
Charlie Villanueva is "in good shape," according to beat writer Keith Langlois.
It's imperative that Charlie V comes into the 2012-13 season in better shape. His days of being on the fantasy radar are over for now, and he's only going to get consistent playing time if he can play decent defense. With the Pistons looking toward the future, we're not expecting much from the veteran.

Fri Aug 17 201210:17Villanueva hopes injuries are behind him now
Charlie Villanueva is focusing on staying healthy for the upcoming season.
"That's my main concern, just staying healthy," he said. "If I stay healthy, everything will take care of itself." Villanueva has dealt with plantar fasciitis, back spasms, a broken nose, muscle pulls and an ankle injury during his tenure with the Pistons, but he's revamped his training routine and trimmed his body to the point where he's got the lowest body-fat index and weight of his career. His offseason boxing regimen has also helped Villanueva, who is expecting to compete for a spot in the rotation. Charlie V averaged just 7.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 treys on 38.5 percent shooting over 13 games last season.

Mon Jul 30 201208:26Pistons pleased with Charlie V's conditioning
The Pistons are "pleased" with Charlie Villanueva's offseason conditioning.
Villanueva reportedly looks "slim," and he's using boxing as a primary part of his new workout regimen. "I'm committed to this organization because they made a commitment in me," he said. He played in just 13 games last season, averaging 7.0 points and 3.7 rebounds on 38.5 percent shooting and will undoubtedly be looking to improve on those meager numbers. He's shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Sun Jun 24 201209:59Villanueva's brother denies FIBA report
Charlie Villanueva's brother denied a recent FIBA.com report that CV was cut from the Dominican Republic team after a private workout for coach John Calipari in New York.
The details may have been reported incorrectly, but the bottom line remains the same -- Villanueva's conditioning kept him off the D.R. team. Pistons writer Vince Ellis provides a glimpse of a silver lining, noting that CV lost 30 pounds while rehabbing from an ankle injury last season, and "earn[ed] respect in the organization for staying engaged when he could have mentally checked out."

Wed Jun 13 201219:56Villanueva overweight, cut from D.R. team
Charlie Villanueva was recently cut from the Dominican Republic national team for being overweight.
"Charlie was not in good form when we saw him," said John Calipari, who coaches the team. "He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively." CV appeared in just 13 games this season and shows no signs of returning to form, as he can't stay healthy and in shape. Detroit owes him $16.7 million over the next two seasons, with a no-brainer player option for 2013-14.
