Charlie Villanueva was fined $250,000 by the NBA on Wednesday for a flagrant-2 foul during Tuesday's game.

The fine will hurt Villanueva's wallet, but he managed to avoid a suspension for the infraction. Villanueva has been warming up of late and is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

The teams cleared their benches in the second half and Villanueva took advantage of the extra minutes and played a season-high 21. He's hit double figures in three straight games, knocking down nine 3-pointers over that stretch. We still don't trust him, but if he keeps getting minutes and hitting his shots, he's worth a look if you need a big man who can hit treys.

This is great per-minute production and he had 15 points with three treys on Sunday, but we still need to see a lot more out of Charlie V to get behind him in fantasy leagues. Years of dormancy will do that to a player.

To be clear, this isn't necessarily a permanent move. C.V. had a nice outing on Sunday with 15 points and even hit three triples. He has been fantasy relevant before, but he has a long way to go before he becomes a pickup in anything outside of really deep leagues.

C.V. only played in two games so far this year and nobody really saw this coming. All of his stats listed above were obviously season highs. Unless you're in a 30-team league, you can leave the UConn product on the wire.

Charlie V needed to get in better shape during the offseason, and he finally appears committed to doing exactly that. The veteran denied that he was cut from the Dominican Republic team over the summer, and is using rumors of him being a potential amnesty clause candidate to fuel him for the campaign. He's still not on the fantasy radar.

It's imperative that Charlie V comes into the 2012-13 season in better shape. His days of being on the fantasy radar are over for now, and he's only going to get consistent playing time if he can play decent defense. With the Pistons looking toward the future, we're not expecting much from the veteran.

"That's my main concern, just staying healthy," he said. "If I stay healthy, everything will take care of itself." Villanueva has dealt with plantar fasciitis, back spasms, a broken nose, muscle pulls and an ankle injury during his tenure with the Pistons, but he's revamped his training routine and trimmed his body to the point where he's got the lowest body-fat index and weight of his career. His offseason boxing regimen has also helped Villanueva, who is expecting to compete for a spot in the rotation. Charlie V averaged just 7.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 treys on 38.5 percent shooting over 13 games last season.

The Pistons are "pleased" with Charlie Villanueva's offseason conditioning.

Villanueva reportedly looks "slim," and he's using boxing as a primary part of his new workout regimen. "I'm committed to this organization because they made a commitment in me," he said. He played in just 13 games last season, averaging 7.0 points and 3.7 rebounds on 38.5 percent shooting and will undoubtedly be looking to improve on those meager numbers. He's shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Charlie Villanueva's brother denied a recent FIBA.com report that CV was cut from the Dominican Republic team after a private workout for coach John Calipari in New York.

The details may have been reported incorrectly, but the bottom line remains the same -- Villanueva's conditioning kept him off the D.R. team. Pistons writer Vince Ellis provides a glimpse of a silver lining, noting that CV lost 30 pounds while rehabbing from an ankle injury last season, and "earn[ed] respect in the organization for staying engaged when he could have mentally checked out."

Charlie Villanueva was recently cut from the Dominican Republic national team for being overweight.

"Charlie was not in good form when we saw him," said John Calipari, who coaches the team. "He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively." CV appeared in just 13 games this season and shows no signs of returning to form, as he can't stay healthy and in shape. Detroit owes him $16.7 million over the next two seasons, with a no-brainer player option for 2013-14.
