Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Fri Feb 10 202309:25Navigating The Clippers Trade Deadline Moves - Fantasy Basketball Impact
The Los Angeles Clippers are in the heat of the congested Western Conference playoff race and were one of the more active franchises during Thursday's trade deadline. The Clippers had some glaring needs, specifically at the point guard position, and needed to surround their star forwards, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, with more talent to compete in the loaded Western Conference. The Clippers were able to execute three separate trades on Thursday. First off, the Clippers were able to secure Bones Hyland from the Denver Nuggets for a couple of second-round picks. Then, they set their eyes on veteran guard Eric Gordon in a three-team trade, sending off John Wall to the Houston Rockets and Luke Kennard to the Memphis Grizzlies. Lastly, the Clippers moved ... Thu Feb 9 202322:16Russell Westbrook Traded To Jazz - Fantasy Basketball Impact
The Russell Westbrook experiment in Los Angeles has been less than ideal over the past two years and has officially come to an end. With the West stocking up everywhere, the Lakers knew they had to make a splash in order to make a push to the playoffs. The Lakers executed a three-team trade with the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves, involving a total of eight players and multiple draft picks Wednesday night. The Lakers sent Russell Westbrook, Juan Tuscano-Anderson, and Damian Jones to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt while also acquiring D'Angelo Russell from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Jazz also sent Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the Timberwolves while accumulating even more draft capital. So just what is the fantasy basketball fallout of this blockbuster trade? Let's examine how each of the teams and players in the deal may be affected going forward.

Fantasy Basketball Fallout: Russell Westbrook

Westbrook is expected to be bought out from Utah and enter free agency. There are already rumors of teams interested in the veteran point guard, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, and Chicago Bulls. If Westbrook were to be claimed, he would likely be given a prominent role immediately given these three teams are all lacking in the point guard position. Westbrook's caveat has always been his personality fit so it remains to be seen how well he can mesh with his new team if he is claimed.

Fantasy Basketball Fallout: Lakers

The Lakers get some much-needed spacing and size with the additions of Russell, Beasley, and Vanderbilt. Russell is shooting a career-high 39.1 percent from three while averaging 17.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this season. Russell should absorb Westbrook's minutes and will likely start at point guard over ... [More]
Fri Feb 3 202318:10Anthony Davis Expected To Suit Up Versus New Orleans
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) is expected to play on Saturday versus the Pelicans. The 29-year-old will likely remain a fixture on the league's official injury report moving ahead after missing over a month because of a foot ailment. However, he should be good to go, so fantasy managers can plan on having him in the starting lineup. Davis has played well since returning, recently amassing a 31-point, 14-rebound double-double on Thursday in Indiana.

Thu Feb 2 202314:46Anthony Davis Considered Probable For Thursday's Game
Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Anthony Davis (foot) is probable for Thursday's game against Indiana. The Brow has played in three of four games since returning from a right foot injury, and with this matchup not being part of a back-to-back, we can fully expect to see him on the court. The Lakers have been slowly ramping up his workload since the return, and Davis has averaged 21.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 32.3 minutes after rejoining the lineup. He was back in the starting unit Tuesday versus the Knicks and should be his dominant self against the Pacers, who have produced poor numbers throughout the season against opposing bigs. Davis had 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four blocks in the first head-to-head meeting of the season.

Davis missed last game due to injury management, but is expected to play after being listed as probable. Tue Jan 31 202316:03Anthony Davis Listed As Probable Against Knicks
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) has been listed as probable for the team's contest on Tuesday against the New York Knicks. He received the night off on Monday while he encountered stress in his right foot which kept him out for close to two months. Moving forward, he'll probably receive some more rest days as he has proven how important he is to the team's success. When he returns, Thomas Bryant and Wenyen Gabriel will take a hit in fantasy value.

Sun Jan 29 202317:04Anthony Davis Out Ahead Of Monday's Meeting With Brooklyn
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) won't suit up on Monday against Brooklyn. Davis won't play versus Kyrie Irving and the Nets, presumably to get a night off on the front end of a back-to-back. However, barring a setback, he should be good to go for Tuesday's meeting with the Knicks. In the meantime, Thomas Bryant will likely enter the starting lineup and would undoubtedly see an uptick in interest in seasonal and DFS formats.

Thu Jan 26 202312:26Anthony Davis Posts Double-Double In First Game Back
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis returned on Wednesday night to the tune of a double-double and a victory over the San Antonio Spurs. He ended the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and four blocks while shooting 7-for-15. The Lakers missed his presence on both sides of the ball as was evident by his ability to score and block shots in just 26 minutes off of the bench. As long as he's in the lineup, the Lakers have a really good chance to make the playoffs and maybe surprise some people.

Wed Jan 25 202321:25Anthony Davis Cleared To Play On Wednesday
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) has been cleared to play against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. The superstar center is finally ready to return after missing time due to a fractured bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot. The Lakers are going to be extremely cautious with their big man. It doesn't sound like Davis is going to start and he'll be heavily restricted. That being said, Wenyen Gabriel and Thomas Bryant should continue seeing the bulk of the playing time at center. They should continue to have streaming appeal until Davis gets back to full speed.

Wed Jan 25 202310:29Anthony Davis Expected To Return On Wednesday
Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Anthony Davis (foot) was originally set to be re-evaluated on Wednesday morning, but now it seems as though the expectation is that he will be back in the lineup on a minutes restriction barring any unforeseen setbacks. Reports have said he will likely only play around 20-to-24 minutes in his first few games back, so fantasy managers might want to be cautious with deploying him into lineups at first.

Tue Jan 24 202321:12Anthony Davis To Be Re-Evaluated Wednesday
Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Anthony Davis (foot) is scheduled to be re-evaluated Wednesday morning. Head coach Darvin Ham stated that Davis had another good day in practice and is on his way to recovery. The Lakers play Wednesday night and there is a chance Davis could be available if all goes well. If Davis is able to go, Thomas Bryant will likely move to the bench and lose most of his fantasy value.

Mon Jan 9 202315:47Anthony Davis To Begin Ramping Up Activities
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) is set to begin ramping up activities this week. The 29-year-old is recovering after suffering a fractured bone spur and a stress reaction in his navicular bone. He has been sidelined since mid-December. The hope is that Davis can get back on the floor within the next few weeks. Thomas Bryant has been playing well in his absence, but will ultimately shift to the bench once Davis is ready to return. In the meantime, Bryant can remain rostered in basically all fantasy formats until Davis gets cleared to play.

Fri Dec 23 202215:11Anthony Davis Dealing With Stress Injury In Right Foot
The timeline for a return to action for Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) appears to have been extended. The team announced Friday that Davis is dealing with a stress injury in his right foot and will be sidelined indefinitely due to the ailment. The eight-time All-Star was reportedly expected to miss at least one month of action, but there is hope that resting the injury will allow a quicker return to the court. Davis was amidst a dominant campaign, averaging 27.4 points and a career-high 12.1 rebounds per game, all while shooting 59.4 percent overall and adding 2.1 blocks each night. Thomas Bryant has stepped in as the Lakers' center and can now safely be added in all-sized formats, as he figures to get an extended look in the frontcourt.

Sun Dec 18 202214:41Anthony Davis Expected To Miss A Month
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) is expected to miss at least one month of action. The big man suffered a right foot sprain during Friday's game. That being said, Davis will miss at least a month, but given his injury history there is a good chance he misses more time than that. His absence is going to significantly hurt the Lakers roster. Thomas Bryant is expected to move into the starting five with Davis absent. He should be rostered everywhere, but he obviously won't be able to put up the same numbers as Davis offensively.

Sat Dec 17 202202:54Anthony Davis Sustains Right Foot Injury
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis (foot) exited Friday's win over the Nuggets because of a right foot injury. He didn't return. The veteran would finish with 10 points, four rebounds, one block, and one steal across 17 minutes of work. While the severity of Davis' condition is unknown, there's a good chance he will miss a few games, starting with Sunday's contest against Washington. If that happens, Thomas Bryant, who had 21 points, six boards, and two steals in 24 minutes versus Denver, could prove useful to fantasy managers if Davis can't suit up moving ahead.

Wed Dec 14 202213:12Anthony Davis Leads The Lakers In Scoring Again On Tuesday
Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis continued his elite scoring ways on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the team suffered a 118-122 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics. Sun Dec 11 202222:01Anthony Davis Has Fantastic All-Around Game On Sunday
Los Angeles Lakers center/forward Anthony Davis further proved how much of a dominant force he is this season. Against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, Davis finished with 34 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and one block. He shot an efficient 12-for-18 from the floor and added 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. This was his seventh game with 30 or more points this season and his 17th double-double. He's only 2 games and 2 double-doubles shy of his totals from all of last season and there are still 57 games left to play.
