Young (hamstring) will likely miss Sunday's game against Brooklyn according to coach Brad Stevens.
Young strained his hamstring injury earlier in October and was considered week-to-week. The fact that coach Brad Stevens hasn't completely ruled him out marks likely indicates he is finally nearing a return. The 19-year-old hopes to stick with the Celtics this season, but will have a lot of work to do after missing multiple weeks in training camp.
Wed Oct 8 201417:58Young considered "week-to-week" due to left hamstring injury
Young is considered "week-to-week" due to a left hamstring injury.
Young will not play in Wednesday's preseason game versus the Knicks and apparently could miss a chunk of time leading up to this season. As a result, the 19-year-old may find himself playing catch-up once he's able to return, although tough competition from players like Avery Bradley, Evan Turner, and Marcus Thornton was always expected to impact Young's minutes during his rookie season.
Wed Oct 8 201416:22Young out for Wednesday's preseason game against Knicks
Young is out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Knicks.
It's not clear why the Celtics will hold out the rookie wing, but it could just be to take a longer look at other players at the position. He was a nice value for the Celtics in the latter half of the first round, but don't expect him to have significant fantasy production during his rookie season.
Mon Sep 29 201415:56Young does not anticipate spending time in D-League this season
Young does not anticipate spending time in the D-League this season, Ben Rohrback of WEEI.com reports.
At the team's media day Monday, Young was asked if he envisions himself spending time in the D-League as a rookie. "Definitely not," the Kentucky product responded. While the choice won't ultimately be up to Young, it's difficult to speculate where he'll fit into the backcourt rotation as a rookie. Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Evan Turner and Marcus Thornton currently project ahead of him on the depth chart at shooting guard, but Young's size may allow him to slide over to small forward. Regardless, he'll need to prove he's capable of handling a consistent role in the NBA, or the team could opt to send him to the D-League, where he would see starter's minutes on a nightly basis, albeit against much weaker competition.
Tue Jul 29 201416:14James Young (concussion) 'good to go'
Celtics rookie James Young (concussion) said that he's "good to go" after missing the entirety of Summer League.
Young suffered whiplash and a minor concussion in a car accident shortly before the draft, but it was never considered serious and his absence in Summer League was mostly a precaution. The 18-year-old swingman was inefficient with Kentucky (40.7 percent shooting) and he'll need a while to adapt to the NBA. With Jeff Green and Avery Bradley locked into the starting lineup, fantasy owners should watch Young develop from afar.

Mon Jul 7 201417:51Ainge rules out James Young for Summer League
Danny Ainge has ruled out rookie James Young (neck) for the remainder of the Summer League.
"He'll be fine in a couple of weeks. Maybe a week," said Ainge. Young was involved in a car accident last week that gave him whiplash and concussion-like symptoms. This is just the team playing it safe with one of their lottery picks and not much should be read into this. Young should be fine heading into training camp.

Mon Jul 7 201410:39James Young doubtful for Monday's game
James Young (neck) is unlikely to play in Monday's game in Orlando vs. the Pacers.
He was in a car accident last week and it's caused him some neck pain. The injury is not too serious and he is still with the team. Young has been able to do some light shooting while at practice, but he may miss the entire summer league. He's not worth drafting in standard leagues.

Sun Jul 6 201415:33James Young (neck) still unable to practice
James Young (strained neck) isn't practicing and the Celtics will soon decide whether to rest him for the duration of the Orlando Pro Summer League.
The injury stems from a minor car accident he had a few weeks ago, but the Celtics have downplayed the severity of the injury. Young is a versatile swingman who played impressive defense while at Kentucky, and he should be able to carve out minutes at SG and SF as an NBA rookie.

Fri Jul 4 201418:29James Young does some light shooting
James Young (neck) did some light shooting on Friday with the Celtics.
He is not expected to play in Boston's Orlando Summer League game vs. the Magic. His status is still up in the air for the entire event due to a minor car accident this week, but it's more of a day-to-day issue. The 17th pick in the draft will compete for a spot in the rotation this summer.

Thu Jul 3 201412:05James Young may not play in Summer League
James Young (neck) may not play in the Orlando Summer League, according to Celtics coach Brad Stevens.
The Celtics are taking every precaution with their 2014 first-round pick as he recovers from a minor pre-draft car accident. Stevens added that Young is doing some non-contact drills, but his status for summer league is still up in the air. Young has some work to do on his shot and missing summer league won't do much to help with that, so fantasy owners may want to take a pass on him in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Tue Jul 1 201414:37James Young (neck) may miss Summer League
Celtics draft pick James Young (strained neck) may not play in the Orlando Summer League as a precaution.
Young was in a minor car accident in the weeks before the draft, which forced him to miss workouts and may have hurt his draft position, but the Celtics described his absence from recent practices as "precautionary." The longer he sits out the more ground he'll have to make up in his rookie season, and fantasy owners should view the former Wildcat skeptically in standard formats.

Tue Jul 1 201411:17James Young sits out Summer League workout
James Young sat out Tuesday's workout with the Celtics' Summer League team as a precaution.
Young had a minor car accident that cut short his pre-draft workouts and it looks like the Celtics will err on the side of caution with their rookie. Young struggled with his shot during his only season at Kentucky, so it will be important for him to get to work on his shot once he is able to participate in workouts. The Celtics will benefit from his perimeter defense as he polishes his offense, but fantasy owners who reach on Young in 2014-15 drafts will likely be disappointed with his offensive output during his rookie season.
