Aaron Rowand hit a two-run homer and singled off the bench for the Giants in Monday's loss.
Rowand delivered the pinch-hit homer off Taylor Tankersley to get the Giants on the board in the seventh. He then went on to score the team's only other run in the ninth. We'll see if that's good enough to get him a start on Tuesday. The Giants have mostly been using him against lefties lately.

Batting eighth, Aaron Rowand went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored Thursday against the Astros.
His first multihit game in four weeks. Rowand has lost a lot of playing time while strugging mightily over the last month and a half. He's not finished as a regular in San Francisco, but the team is better right now when Andres Torres starts in center.

Starter Tim Lincecum departed with a 4-2 lead, but Dan Runzler and Sergio Romo conspired to prevent him from recording the win. With the Giants down 5-4, Rowand then homered off reliever Jenrry Mejia to score John Bowker and put the Giants back on top. Rowand is 11-for-32 with three homers to start the month of May.

Giants activated OF Aaron Rowand from the 15-day disabled list.
Rowand missed just the minimum 15 days with the concussion and facial injuries he suffered after being hit in the head by Vicente Padilla. He hoped to be in the Giants Sunday lineup and after being activated, and that seems to be the likely end to this particular stint on the disabled list.
Sat May 1 201022:56Rowand to return to Giants' lineup on Sunday
Aaron Rowand, who was drilled in the face with a pitch on April 16, is set to return to the Giants' lineup on Sunday.
The Giants have already moved a reliever to Triple-A Fresno, clearing the way for Rowand's return. Rowand is fairly confident that the frightening mid-April incident won't stick with him. "My swing feels good right now," said the outfielder, who was hitting .304 when he was injured. "The key is being able to go up there and feel comfortable in the batter's box."

"He's driving us all nuts," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "We miss him. We're having a tough time in that leadoff spot." Giants leadoff hitters have been just 6-for-33 (.182) during his absence.

If the injury requires surgery, it would only add one additional week to his absence. Expect Rowand back in early-to-mid May. Until that time, Eugenio Velez is a must-add in all NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Sat Apr 17 201018:51San Francisco in holding pattern with Rowand
The Giants are still mulling what to do with Aaron Rowand, who sustained a mild concussion and two small fractures of his left cheekbone after being hit in the head by a Vicente Padilla fastball Friday.
One option is to fit him with a protective visor that would allow him to play, another is surgery that would obviously keep him out indefinitely. Manager Bruce Bochy, it should be noted, said the Giants wouldn't do anything to risk Rowand's long-term health.

Sat Apr 17 201008:45Rowand sustained concussion, broken cheekbone
Aaron Rowand sustained a mild concussion and two small fractures of his left cheekbone after being hit in the head by a Vicente Padilla fastball.
Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that he didn't know whether Rowand would need to be placed on the disabled list, though it will almost certain depend on the severity of the concussion. Bochy didn't believe that the headshot was intentional, telling reporters, "In that situation, he's in a jam. You're always going to wonder what the intent was. Certainly in that situation, that's not when a pitcher is going to hit somebody."

Fri Apr 16 201023:53Rowand exits game after beaning
Aaron Rowand exited Friday's game against the Dodgers after being beaned in the helmet by a Vicente Padilla fastball.
Scary stuff, and Padilla certainly has the reputation as a head-hunter, although it's hard to say if it was intentional. He was replaced in the game by Eugenio Velez.
Wed Apr 7 201017:24Giants' Rowand goes 4-for-6
Aaron Rowand went 4-for-6 with a triple and two RBI against the Astros on Wednesday.
The triple could have been caught, but it was a nice day for Rowand regardless. He was off to an 0-for-10 start, leading to speculation that he might sit today.
Wed Apr 7 201009:24Bochy doesn't plan to bench Rowand
Giants manager Bruce Bochy doesn't plan to bench Aaron Rowand on Wednesday.
"It's two games. It happens," Bochy said of Rowand, who is 0-for-10 with three strikeouts to begin the season. "He just needs a hit to get going. But I don't think he needs a day [off]." Rowand and his .338 career on-base percentage is batting out of the leadoff spot to start the season, but that might change if he continues to scuffle.
