An X-ray on Sean Rodriguez's left index finger has confirmed a sprain.

Thu Mar 8 201216:21Sean Rodriguez has sprained left index finger
Sean Rodriguez was diagnosed Thursday in Rays camp with a sprained left index finger.
The Tampa Bay medical staff is calling Rodriguez "day-to-day." He's trying to lock up the Rays' starting shortstop gig this spring and should be back in action after sitting out the next few Grapefruit League tilts.

Fri Sep 30 201114:50Rays go with S-Rod in leadoff spot
Sean Rodriguez is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff in game one of Tampa's ALDS tilt with the Rangers.
With the Rangers sending lefty C.J. Wilson to the hill, Rays manager Joe Maddon will gamble and go with S-Rod in the top spot despite the fact that he hit first just six times all season. He did post a solid .273/.389/.475 triple slash against southpaws, however, and is certainly a better option against Wilson than Reid Brignac. With the Rays also ending rookie Matt Moore to the hill for just his second career start this evening, you can't say they aren't pulling out all the stops.

Wed Sep 21 201123:32Rodriguez homers in loss
Sean Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees.
The Rays missed a golden opportunity to make up ground in the American League wild card race after the Red Sox choked away a three-run lead against the Orioles earlier on Wednesday, and must now win on Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees. As for Rodriguez, his eighth home run of the season was his second of the month. Hitting .225/.319/.366, he'll be off the fantasy radar in 2012.

Sean Rodriguez (back) is back in the lineup Saturday.
Rodriguez hasn't played in a couple days due to a stiff lower back. While not yet 100 percent, he said he's "good enough" and that the back shouldn't be an issue. He's playing shortstop and batting sixth against Jon Lester.

Thu Aug 25 201116:15Sean Rodriguez goes hitless in loss
Sean Rodriguez struck out in both of his at-bats before being removed from Thursday's loss to the Tigers.
Rodriguez's hustle won the Rays a game yesterday, but it doesn't change the fact that he's batting .161 with one extra-base hit in 56 at-bats this month. The Rays need to go back to Reid Brignac at shortstop to see if he's going to be a solution there next year. Rodriguez has pretty much proven that he's a utilityman at best.

Sun Jul 31 201119:32Sean Rodriguez pops off in win
Sean Rodriguez went off for three hits, a solo homer, three RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
Now getting regular at-bats at shortstop, Rodriguez is swinging a hot stick. He has eight hits in his last 22 at-bats and scored seven runs over that span. Still, Rodriguez is batting ninth and has just five homers in 237 at-bats this season. He's just a desperation option.

Fri Jul 22 201117:57S-Rod starts at shortstop Friday
Sean Rodriguez will start at shortstop Friday for the first time since June 5.
It's worth a shot, as Elliot Johnson enters play Friday batting .185 (5-for-27) this month while Reid Brignac is batting .193 on the season. If the Rays are serious about making a run, this is probably their best configuration.

Fri May 27 201117:42Rodriguez to be primary shortstop for Rays
Rays manager Joe Maddon indicated that Sean Rodriguez will get most of the playing time at shortstop for now.
We assumed that's where he was headed given the struggles of Reid Brignac. Rodriguez, a right-handed batter, has traditionally swung the bat better against southpaws during his brief major league career, but Maddon wants to give him a longer look against right-handed pitching. The 26-year-old has plenty of upside with his power-speed combo, so he should be owned in AL-only and deeper mixed formats.

Fri Apr 29 201117:25Rodriguez's pinky finger still 'very sore'
Sean Rodriguez (finger) is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels.
Rodriguez dislocated his left pinky finger on a slide into second base in the eighth inning of Thursday's game. Rays manager Joe Maddon said Friday that the finger is still "very sore," so his status is very much up in the air at the moment. Felipe Lopez will start at third base Friday and bat seventh against right-hander Ervin Santana.

Thu Apr 28 201123:36Sean Rodriguez dislocates pinkie finger
Sean Rodriguez dislocated his pinkie finger in the eighth inning of Thursday's game.
Rodriguez suffered the injury while trying to swipe second base. The Rays will wait until Friday to see how bad the swelling is before making any decisions. Rodriguez told reporters that he's hoping to avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

Wed Mar 2 201106:37Sean Rodriguez to see time at shortstop
Sean Rodriguez will see more time this spring at shortstop, as the team wants him to become Reid Brignac's back-up.
"I want to give him more of an opportunity to play there to give us a look and also for him to feel more comfortable in case it became more critical," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. Rodriguez has played shortstop and nearly every other position in his young career, so the learning curve will not be too steep.

Sun Aug 22 201000:21Rays' Rodriguez homers in victory
Sean Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to help the Rays beat the A's 5-4 on Saturday.
Rodriguez also singled, walked and stole a base. He's struggled the last couple of months and has started sitting against righties as a result, but he's still a threat for homers and steals whenever he's in the lineup.
Fri Jul 16 201016:52Rays' Rodriguez to be a late arrival
Sean Rodriguez was unable to make it to New York in time for Friday's game and has been scratched from Tampa Bay's lineup.
Rodriguez reportedly had a flooding incident at his condo on Thursday. He's due in New York sometime tonight. The Rays have Ben Zobrist starting at second base with Rodriguez absent. Gabe Kapler is playing right field.
