Fri Mar 23 201211:14Michael Martinez out at least 6-8 weeks
Michael Martinez (foot) won't be able to return to the field for 6-8 weeks.
It would presumably be at least an additional week or two before he would be game-ready, so we probably shouldn't expect him back until late May or early June. The Phillies are expected to pursue utility help from outside the organization.

Tue Mar 20 201215:35Mike Martinez injures foot, fitted with boot
Michael Martinez underwent X-rays on his right foot Tuesday after being hit by a pitch.
Martinez was wearing a protective boot in the Phillies' clubhouse, but that may have been a precautionary thing. The team hasn't addressed whether the injury is severe.

Wed Mar 14 201210:33Phils' Martinez exits game with bruised elbow
Michael Martinez left Tuesday's game against the Astros after he was struck in the right elbow by a pickoff throw.
He was diagnosed with a bruise and isn't expected to miss more than a couple games. The 29-year-old currently projects to make the Opening Day roster as a utility infielder, but Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phils are on the lookout for additional infield depth.

Sat Jul 23 201120:11Martinez powers Phillies past Mets
Michael Martinez clubbed a go-ahead three-run homer in a win over the Padres on Saturday.
Ryan Howard tied the game with a pinch-hit solo homer off Chad Qualls to begin the seventh inning. After a double by Ross Gload and a walk by Jimmy Rollins, Martinez was originally sent up to sacrifice. However, he swung away after fouling off two bunt attempts. It worked out for the best, though, as Martinez launched his second major league home run to put the Phillies ahead for good. The Rule 5 pick is now batting .294 (15-for-51) while filling in for the injured Placido Polanco. He's beginning to look like a decent option in NL-only leagues for the short-term.

Mon Jul 4 201121:10Michael Martinez notches RBI
Michael Martinez singled home the lone run of the afternoon in the seventh inning of Philadelphia's win over the Marlins on the Fourth of July.
He plated Dom Brown by taking a Ricky Nolasco pitch to shallow left center. With just six at-bats since June 19, Martinez is about as valueless as a player can get in fantasy.

Wed Mar 30 201113:33Martinez makes Phils' Opening Day roster
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Wednesday that Rule 5 pick Michael Martinez has made the Opening Day roster.
It became obvious once Luis Castillo was released. Martinez, 28, batted just .239 (17-for-71) this spring, but is a skilled defender and can play all over the field. The Phillies could use his versatility right now.

Thu Dec 9 201011:18Phils select INF-OF Martinez in Rule 5 Draft
Phillies selected INF-OF Michael Martinez from the Nationals with the 30th pick in the Rule 5 Draft.
Martinez, 28, batted .272/.312/.408 with 11 home runs and 56 RBI between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse this past season. He can play multiple positions and has a good glove, but the only question is whether he will hit enough to justify a roster spot.
