Ryan Howard tied the game with a pinch-hit solo homer off Chad Qualls to begin the seventh inning. After a double by Ross Gload and a walk by Jimmy Rollins, Martinez was originally sent up to sacrifice. However, he swung away after fouling off two bunt attempts. It worked out for the best, though, as Martinez launched his second major league home run to put the Phillies ahead for good. The Rule 5 pick is now batting .294 (15-for-51) while filling in for the injured Placido Polanco. He's beginning to look like a decent option in NL-only leagues for the short-term. | ||||||

It became obvious once Luis Castillo was released. Martinez, 28, batted just .239 (17-for-71) this spring, but is a skilled defender and can play all over the field. The Phillies could use his versatility right now. | ||||||
