Thompson is hitting .224/.320/.372 in his second full season in the Southern League. He has above-average power, but struggles with pitch recognition and has 76 strikeouts in 59 games this season. Thompson was the White Sox's 2nd round pick in 2009, but has yet to see his prospect status take a jump due to his poor performance. |
The 23-year-old has opened the season on a tear and is now batting .359/.419/.513 with three doubles, a home run, seven RBI and 8/4 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 10 games. After going 0-for-5 in Birmingham's season opener, Thompson is batting .412 during his current nine-game hitting streak. With Avisail Garcia out of the year, Thompson, who's already on the White Sox' 40-man roster, could conceivably get a look in the major leagues late in the season. |
