Thu Aug 19 202117:17DJ LeMahieu Isn't Starting On Thursday
New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu isn't starting on Friday against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander John Gant. The veteran infielder is hitting .270 with a .351 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and four stolen bases in 522 plate appearances this season. Rougned Odor is moving over to start at second base in place of LeMahieu. Odor is batting sixth and could be worth a look for fantasy managers in deeper leagues who are looking for home run help. In 309 plate appearances this year, the 27-year-old is hitting .225 with a .305 on-base percentage and 14 home runs.

Thu Aug 19 202108:50DJ LeMahieu In Midst Of Long Home Run Drought
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu has been one of the most disappointing players in all of fantasy this year. Through 115 games on the season, LeMahieu is slashing .270/.351/.365 with seven home runs, 47 RBI and 57 runs. He's a career .302 hitter, so his current .270 batting average is disappointing, but it's been the complete lack of power that's really caused his fantasy value to plummet. LeMahieu hasn't homered since June 26, despite not missing any significant time over that nearly two-month stretch. He slugged just .291 in July, a month that saw him muster just four extra-base hits, all doubles. While LeMahieu should help fantasy managers in batting average most weeks going forward, he can't be counted on for much more than that.

Wed Aug 11 202120:08DJ LeMahieu Extends Hitting Streak To Five Games
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu collected two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI in Wednesday's victory over the Royals. LeMahieu rapped a pair of singles, one of which left his bat at 105.7 MPH. The versatile infielder has a hit in five straight games, batting .347 with three runs scored, three RBI, and two extra-base hits during that span. LeMahieu makes for a fine DFS play while he's rolling like this, though a tough matchup awaits on Thursday against White Sox ace Lance Lynn. LeMahieu is 0-for-7 in his career against Lynn.

Mon Aug 9 202118:38DJ LeMahieu Dropped To Fifth In Batting Order
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu was dropped from the leadoff spot to fifth in the order ahead of Monday's game against the Royals. LeMahieu has logged 415 of his 421 at-bats in the leadoff spot for New York this season, though manager Aaron Boone opted to switch things up, saying that the move was about balancing the lineup. Boone also noted he hopes that LeMahieu will step up to the plate with runners in scoring position, situations he's thrived in during his career in New York. While the move certainly gives him less run-scoring upside, he very well could find himself with more chances to drive in runs, particularly against the Royals pitching staff, which ranks fifth-worst in baseball in terms of ERA.

Thu Aug 5 202111:52DJ LeMahieu Drives In Four In Rout
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with four RBI in Wednesday's 10-3 win over Baltimore. LeMahieu delivered a pair of key RBI singles, one that tied the game in the fifth inning and the other that gave the Yankees the lead in the seventh. He capped off his strong night at the plate with a two-run double in the eighth inning, which broke the game open for New York. A triceps issue kept LeMahieu from starting against the Marlins this past weekend, though he certainly seems healthy once again, tallying five hits, five RBI, and three runs scored in his last two games. He'll get a great chance to keep rolling on Thursday against Mariners starter Tyler Anderson, who has posted just a 19.7 percent strikeout rate while ranking in the 19th percentile in expected batting average this season.

Mon Aug 2 202118:21DJ LeMahieu Returns To Lineup Monday
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (triceps) is back in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Orioles. LeMahieu was out of the lineup for three games due to triceps soreness but is back atop the Yankee order for the matchup against Baltimore starter Jorge Lopez. LeMahieu is 4-for-10 with an RBI in his career against Lopez and could have even greater run-scoring upside in an improved Yankee lineup that now includes Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo.

Sun Aug 1 202111:27DJ LeMahieu Expected To Return Monday
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (triceps) is expected to return to the lineup for Monday's contest against the Orioles. Manager Aaron Boone initially said that LeMahieu would be able to return at some point this weekend, though the club appears to be taking the cautious approach with him. The veteran infielder could have even more run-scoring upside when he returns to an improved Yankee lineup. Newly acquired Anthony Rizzo will slot into the leadoff spot in place of LeMahieu. Rizzo owns a .969 career OPS in 64 starts as the table-setter.

Sat Jul 31 202117:21DJ LeMahieu, Gio Urshela Out Of Saturday's Lineup
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (triceps) and Gio Urshela (hamstring) are out of Saturday's lineup. This marks the second straight absence for both players, though they were utilized off the bench as pinch hitters Friday night, suggesting they may return soon. Rougned Odor will again draw the start at second base and bat sixth against Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers. Tyler Wade will play third and bat eighth. Wade has little fantasy appeal, but Odor could be a wise DFS play, as he's sporting a .978 OPS against southpaws this season and has been swinging a hot bat lately.

Fri Jul 30 202122:15Gallo, Rizzo excited to join Yankees for playoff drive
MIAMI (AP) — With a pair of new sluggers in place, the New York Yankees are ready to make their playoff drive. First baseman Anthony Rizzo homered in his Yankees debut Friday night and All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo also suited up with New York for the first time in the opener of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. New York obtained Gallo and left-handed reliever Joely Rodríguez from the Texas Rangers for four minor league prospects Thursday. Rizzo’s nine-year tenure with the Chicago Cubs ended after he was sent to the Yankees for two prospects. Entering the weekend series at Miami, the Yankees were 8 1/2 games behind AL East leader Boston and 3 1/2 behind Oakland for the league's second wild card. “I’ve been hearing for some time that it was a possibility, that New York was in play for me,” Gallo said. “I grew up a huge Yankee fan. My family is from New York. It was pretty surreal they told me I was going to the Yankees. A great opportunity — it’s an amazing team to be a part... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202117:11DJ LeMahieu, Gio Urshela Absent From Friday's Lineup
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (triceps) and third baseman Gio Urshela (hamstring) are not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins. Both LeMahieu and Urshela are considered day-to-day, per manager Aaron Boone. Boone noted that he's hopeful that they'll be available this weekend. Rougned Odor will start at second, with Tyler Wade filling in at third Friday. Odor is a solid upside play at the moment, having produced a .854 OPS in July.

Thu Jul 29 202122:44Yankees get Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo, cash for 2 minor leaguers
The New York Yankees acquired Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo for two minor leaguers Thursday in their second major trade this week for desperately needed left-handed bats. Chicago will pay the Yankees $5,652,403 as part of the trade, covering all but $202,435 of the remainder of Rizzo's $16.5 million salary, which comes to a prorated share of the $570,500 minimum. The swap came ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline Friday at 4 p.m. Earlier in the day, the Yankees announced they had gotten All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from Texas. Rizzo is batting .248 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs. The 31-year-old had been a fixture at Wrigley Field for a decade, and helped the Cubs break their long World Series drought with a championship in 2016. Popular in the clubhouse and with Cubs fans, Rizzo didn't play in a 7-4 loss at home to Cincinnati on Thursday. The three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner can become a free agent after the season. New York is fourth in the AL... [More]
Thu Jul 29 202122:44Not left out: Yankees get big lefty bats with Gallo, Rizzo
NEW YORK (AP) — Desperate for a powerful, left-handed bat to park balls in the short porch at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees got two of them. Hours after announcing their trade to acquire All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from Texas, the playoff-chasing Yankees worked out a deal for longtime Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo on Thursday. The swaps came on a day the Yankees lost at Tampa Bay 14-0, leaving them far behind Boston in the AL East and fourth in the chase for two wild-card spots. Team officials, including owner Hal Steinbrenner and general manager Brian Cashman, have been holding meetings in nearby Tampa, Florida. “Part of the reason I’m here is because Hal always goes for it, and so does Brian,” Yankees ace Gerrit Cole said after the lopsided loss. “Continue to push chips in. I trust that they’re going to do what’s best for the organization, what’s best to win. I trust they’re going to try and make us better one way or another, and they did.” The Yankees made the moves... Thu Jul 29 202100:14AP source: Yanks reach deal to get slugger Gallo from Texas
All-Star slugger Joey Gallo is headed to the Bronx to give the New York Yankees some much-needed punch from the left side. The Yankees have reached a deal to get Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday night because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. “Wow, a guy that can hit it out of any ball park. I don’t think he gets enough credit for the type of defense that he plays,” Aaron Judge said after the Yankees won 3-1 in 10 innings at Tampa Bay. “Also, just talking with Rougy and a couple guys that have played with him, man, what a guy that you want in you clubhouse, a guy that shows up everyday ready to play. He’s going to fight until the very end. If that’s true and it comes true that we get him, I think it’s going to be something special for our team," he said. Gallo, 27, should provide a powerful boost for the heavily... [More]

New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with one RBI in a 3-1 win over the Rays on Wednesday night. His single in the third inning extended his on-base streak to 13 games, but despite that streak he's been mired in a bit of a slump lately. Over his last 15 games now, LaMahieu is slashing .220/328/.288 with two steals, five RBI and two runs scored. He'll look to turn things around on Thursday in the series finale with Tampa Bay.

Sun Jul 25 202115:23Yankees Germn has no-hitter through 7 vs Red Sox at Fenway
BOSTON (AP) — Domingo Germán of the New York Yankees is pitching a no-hitter through seven innings against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Mixing his well-spotted fastball in the mid-90 mph range with a changeup and curveball, the 28-year-old Germán has struck out 10 and allowed just one walk. He's thrown 90 pitches Sunday afternoon. Germán struck out four batters in the seventh. The inning was prolonged by a passed ball on a strike three. The last no-hitter at Fenway by an opponent was by Detroit's Jim Bunning on July 20, 1958, when he retired future fellow Hall of Famer Ted Williams on a flyball for the final out. The last Yankees pitcher to no-hit Boston was Dave Righetti at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1983. Germán has been helped by two excellent defensive plays. Shortstop Gleyber Torres went into the deep hole to throw out J.D. Martinez on a grounder in the fifth and first baseman DJ LeMahieu made a nice stab on Christian Vázquez’s grounder leading off the sixth. Germán, who missed all of last season serving the remainder of an 81-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy,is making his 17th start. He hadn'tt gone beyond 5 2/3 innings in his last eight, and his season-high is seven innings, which he’s done twice. The Yankees entered the day eight games back in the AL East after rallying for a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday. New York leads 3-0. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Sun Jul 18 202123:32Escobar HR, single lead Nats past Padres in series finale
WASHINGTON (AP) — Alcides Escobar homered in the eighth inning and hit a winning single in the ninth Sunday as the Washington Nationals wrapped up a disturbing weekend with an 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres. A day after the game was suspended in the sixth inning because of a shooting outside Nationals Park, the Padres completed a 10-4 victory. Washington then came back to end a six-game losing streak. Tres Barrera singled off Mark Melancon (2-2) with one out in the ninth and, after failing on a bunt attempt, Victor Robles was hit by pitch. Escobar hit a flyball that center fielder Trent Grisham couldn’t corral and Barrera scored. Brad Hand (5-2) earned the victory. Juan Soto joined Josh Harrison with three hits and added a two-run homer. Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer and Jackson Profar homered for the Padres. Nationals ace Max Scherzer allowed four runs on four hits in seven innings. He struck out eight. In the completion of Saturday's suspended game, Fernando Tatis Jr. had his third four-hit... [More]
Sun Jul 18 202101:01Shooting outside Nationals Park halts Padres-Washington game
WASHINGTON (AP) — The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after police said there was a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Two people who were in one of the cars later walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds and were being questioned by investigators, Benedict said, and the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear. Investigators were still trying to locate the second vehicle involved in the shooting.
