Sat Jun 22 2013 | 16:10 | Wang gives up one run in no-decision |
Chien-Ming Wang yielded one run in 6 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Orioles. |
Pretty impressive performance against a tough lineup. Wang limited the Orioles to just five hits (four of them singles) while walking none and striking out a pair. He had his trademark sinker working, as he induced 15 ground balls. The veteran right-hander now owns a 2.61 ERA and 10/5 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings over his first three starts with Toronto. We wouldn't bite in mixed leagues, but he's worth rolling with in AL-only leagues for now. |

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Chien-Ming Wang isn't planning on opting out of his minor league deal with the Yankees. |
Wang has the option to opt out on May 31, June 30, and August 10 and 31 if he so chooses, but so far none of the reportedly six teams interested in him is offering a major league deal. That could always change, but for now it looks like he'll remain at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It was reportedly previously that the Orioles were one of the clubs interested in the sinkerballer. |

The Orioles are one of several teams keeping tabs on Chien-Ming Wang. |
Wang is able to opt out of his contract with the Yankees Friday. He might do so, given that he doesn't appear to be poised for a call-up despite a 2.65 ERA over eight Triple-A starts. The O's would have competition for the right-hander's services. |

Free agent Chien-Ming Wang pitched six scoreless innings Friday as Chinese Taipei beat Australia 4-1 to kick off the World Baseball Classic. |
Auditioning for a major league job, Wang allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two. Thanks to three double plays, he managed to get through six innings without exceeding the first-round, 65-pitch limit. Wang's velocity wasn't particularly good tonight; the stadium gun showed him at 82-83 mph, though it was almost surely slow. Wang averaged 91 mph with his fastball with the Nationals last season. |

Wang, of course, spent the first five seasons of his career in pinstripes, winning 19 games for the Bombers in back-to-back seasons. He's posted a 4.94 ERA over just 94 2/3 frames since 2010 while being plagued by shoulder issues. |
