Garcia came off the bench to hit a walk-off RBI single in Saturday's 4-3 over the Tigers.

Originally inserted into the game as a pinch-runner for Melky Cabrera, Garcia wound up receiving a crucial turn at bat - hitting a game-ending single against Neftali Feliz. The walk-off hit is a nice coup for Garcia, who has otherwise played sparingly since being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Phil Rogers of MLB.com reports.

He has been up and down several times this season -- this is his fourth stint with the big club -- but Garcia has merely been a middle-infield depth option, seeing a mere six at-bats in seven games. Garcia's opportunities at the plate figure to be limited again this time around.

Garcia has played in three of the Sox's four Cactus League games through Saturday. Two of those games were played in the outfield, one at second base. Garcia was the team's uber utility guy in 2014, but Emilio Bonifacio is expected to fill that role in 2015. Garcia may be able to sneak onto the active roster as a second utility guy/reserve outfielder, but it is equally likely he receives a demotion to Triple-A Charlotte.

Garcia should see more time at second base in the wake of Gordon Beckham's departure to the Angels.

Garcia has a 21 OPS+ on the season, but he has stuck around largely because he has played every defensive position other than first base and catcher. Garcia also brings some speed to the basepaths (10 steals in 11 attempts), but he has been on base too infrequently to be a steady source of those. He should share time at second with the freshly-recalled Carlos Sanchez, and Marcus Semien should re-enter the picture come Sept. 1.
