Mets designated RHP Nelson Figueroa for assignment.

He probably deserved better, but the Mets decided to go with 20-year-old right-hander Jenrry Mejia. Without options, Figueroa will be subjected to the waiver process. He wasn't terrible this spring, going 2-0 with a 4.61 ERA in five spring outings. Perhaps the Mets were alarmed by his cold finish, as Figgy tossed eight scoreless innings to begin the spring before a rough outing in late March against Florida ruined his earned run average.
