Pirates signed 1B Travis Ishikawa to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. |
Ishikawa, who won a World Series ring in 2010 with the Giants, has slashed just .240/.311/.392 in 194 plate appearances between the Brewers, Orioles and Yankees the past few years since leaving the Bay Area. It makes sense that he chose Pittsburgh, as Gaby Sanchez's grip on the first base throne is tenuous at best. |

Mon Jul 8 2013 | 23:18 | Travis Ishikawa fans twice in Yankees debut |
Making his Yankees debut, Travis Ishikawa was pulled in favor of Lyle Overbay after striking out in both of his at-bats Monday against the Royals. |
Both are left-handed hitters, so it wasn't a great sign for Ishikawa that the Yankees felt the need to pinch-hit Overbay for him. It only made things worse for him when Overbay homered in his place and then walked to try to start a ninth-inning rally in what turned out to be a 5-1 loss. It seems like a pretty good guess that Overbay will get the start on Tuesday. |
