Wed Jul 30 201416:58Bell participating in training camp practices
Bell, who missed OTAs and minicamp while recovering from a knee issue, is participating in training camp practices, MLive.com reports.
The report notes that Bell cut and accelerated with ease during the team portion of Tuesday's practice, which sets the stage for him to resume sharing touches in the Detroit backfield with Reggie Bush, with Theo Riddick and perhaps Mikel Leshoure also in the mix to a lesser degree.
Tue Jul 8 201413:40Joique Bell (knee) says he feels 100 percent
Joique Bell (knee) has been cleared to run at full speed, and says he's "feeling 100 percent."
Bell missed all of OTAs and minicamp, but received medical clearance two weeks after last month's three-day minicamp came to a close. He plans to report to training camp a few days early to test out his body. Bell has been working out at Jay Glazer's Unbreakable Performance Center the past few weeks. We like Bell better than his current late-fifth round ADP. He has RB2 upside.

Thu Jun 12 201415:29Joique Bell (knee) sits out minicamp
Joique Bell (knee) sat out this week's mandatory minicamp, but remains on pace for training camp.
The exact nature of Bell's injury remains unclear, but the team has projected confidence that he'll be ready to go next month. Although missing OTAs and the like is far from ideal, it's not a real concern for a player the Lions plan to heavily utilize this season. Bell will be in the RB2 mix as long as he's 100 percent for Week 1.

Thu May 29 201417:34Joique Bell confident he'll be ready for camp
Joique Bell (knee) is uncertain if he'll be ready for June's mandatory minicamp, but is "confident" he'll be good to go for training camp.
Bell has been sitting out of OTAs, and "isn't optimistic" he'll be ready for next week's sessions. Bell was coy when asked if he was recovering from surgery. Either way, his status for camp and the preseason doesn't appear to be a real concern.

Wed May 28 201423:54Joique Bell remains sidelined at OTAs
Joique Bell (knee) remains sidelined at Lions OTAs.
The Lions continue give no indications they believe Bell's knee injury is a concern, but he's been nursing the ailment since late last season. Mikel Leshoure has capitalized with increased first-team reps. We're going to keep monitoring Bell's status closely. If healthy, he should be in the RB2 hunt.

Thu May 22 201409:16Joique confirms knee injury is from last year
Joique Bell confirmed his current left knee issue is related to an injury originally sustained during last season.
Bell didn't miss any games last year, but he was on the injury report with a knee injury in December. We'd be more concerned with the nagging nature if the Lions didn't just sign him to a three-year, $9.3 million contract. "I had it all last season, so you guys didn't even really notice," Bell said. "But it's something we just trying to get rid of before next season. So it's just being smart. ... I could practice right now if they really wanted me to." There's no reason to adjust any Bell projections.

Tue May 20 201418:40Joique Bell still not participating in OTAs
Joique Bell (knee) remained out of Lions OTAs this week.
Bell is recovering from an undisclosed ailment, but it isn't believed to be serious. Bell revealed the injury on his Instagram account two weeks ago. Bell should be expected to be ready for training camp, if not next month's minicamp.

Wed May 7 201416:51Joique believed to be rehabbing knee injury
Joique Bell is currently rehabbing a left knee injury.
Bell posted a photo to his Instagram account that shows his left knee wrapped up with a pair of crutches by his side. The caption reads, "Be [back] in no time." Bell didn't participate in voluntary workouts, and coach Jim Caldwell refused comment. Bell battled a bit of a knee issue late last season. It's undoubtedly nothing serious. Bell should be 100 percent well before training camp.

Tue Apr 15 201408:47Lions OC confirms Bell, Bush will split role
Lions OC Joe Lombardi confirmed Joique Bell and Reggie Bush will "kind of have a split role."
"I see these guys kind of having a split role and both being very productive," Lombardi said. We figured as much when the Lions re-signed Bell to a three-year, $9.3 million deal and brought in new coach Jim Caldwell, who likes to run a more traditional offense. The Detroit backfield is shaping up as a true 50:50 timeshare.

Tue Mar 11 201412:43Lions lock up Joique Bell for 3 years, $9.3M
Lions re-signed RB Joique Bell to a three-year, $9.3 million contract.
Bell was a restricted free agent that the Lions likely could have retained on a one-year, second-round tender of $2.187 million. Instead, they're locking him up through 2016 and giving him $4.3 million guaranteed -- more guaranteed money than Reggie Bush is on the books for. It's another sign of how high the Lions are on Bell as an emerging front-line running back in a new offense that will feature less shotgun and more traditional formations under new head coach Jim Caldwell. Bell, an underrated talent who is averaging 4.29 yards per rush and 9.82 yards per reception in his two-year career, is going to be a major part of this this timeshare.

Tue Mar 11 201408:51Lions tender Joique Bell at 2nd-round level
Lions extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent Joique Bell.
The second-round tender cost is $2.187 million. The sides are working on a long-term deal, but the Lions had to tender Bell in case they don't strike an accord ahead of Tuesday's 4PM ET beginning of the new league year. This way, they'd receive a second-round pick if another team tried poaching him.

Tue Mar 11 201408:07Lions close to long-term deal w/ Joique Bell
The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions are "close" to a long-term deal with restricted free agent Joique Bell.
If no deal is finalized by Tuesday, look for the Lions to apply a first- or second-round tender to Bell. Locking up Bell wouldn't threaten Reggie Bush's roster spot -- he's due a reasonable $3.5 million salary -- but an increased role for Bell would obviously mean fewer carries for his backfield partner. We fully expect Bell's rushing attempts to trend up under new coach Jim Caldwell, and Bush's to trend down. The Lions are revising their offense.

Sat Feb 22 201411:09Deal or no deal, Lions will retain Bell
Lions GM Martin Mayhew declared free agent Joique Bell was "going to be" in Detroit even if a long-term deal cannot be reached.
"There is a possibility we might work on a long-term deal with him," said Mayhew, "but either way, he's going to be with us." If a new deal cannot be reached, the Lions are likely to put a second-round tender on Bell, meaning any potential suitor would have to give up a second round pick to acquire him. Bell contributed 1197 total yards and eight touchdowns on 219 touches in 2013.

Wed Jan 29 201423:21Joique Bell aiming for long-term contract
Restricted free agent Joique Bell believes there's "mutual interest" between him and the Lions regarding a long-term contract.
Bell would prefer a multi-year commitment as opposed to a one-year restricted tender, for obvious reasons. He's still likely to be slapped with the RFA tag before perhaps striking a long-term deal with Lions management. Bell turns 28 before next season, so Detroit isn't going to break the bank. He does seem to have been identified as a core offensive player by new coach Jim Caldwell.

Mon Jan 20 201412:23Joique Bell to get a second-round tender?
Restricted free agent Joique Bell is expected to get a second-round tender from the Lions.
We're fully confident Bell could be a very good NFL feature back somewhere, but the Lions aren't going to let him walk easily. If they do slap him with this tender, suitors would have to both pay Bell and give up a second-round pick. It's highly, highly unlikely to happen. Bell will have to wait until 2015 offseason to test his value on the open market.

Fri Jan 10 201418:13Linehan believes Joique Bell can be starter
Outgoing Lions OC Scott Linehan believes restricted free agent Joique Bell is capable of being a starting NFL running back.
"I have no question he could start," said Linehan, who was fired along with Jim Schwartz two weeks ago. "He's a guy that can handle a pretty heavy load. ... There's no question he can do it." The Lions are unlikely to let Bell walk this offseason, likely slapping him with a first- or second-round tender. Bell will remain a threat to Reggie Bush's touches under the new coaching staff.

Sun Dec 29 201316:45Joique Bell completes breakout 2013 season
Joique Bell rushed eight times for 31 yards and caught four balls for 25 yards in the Lions' Week 17 loss to the Vikings.
Emerging as a souped-up version of Pierre Thomas to Reggie Bush's Darren Sproles, Bell turned in a true 2013 breakout season, rushing for a stat line of 164-650-8 and topping 50 receptions for the second straight year. Bell runs incredibly hard strictly as a ball carrier, and his versatility is now well established. As Bell is now a restricted free agent, the Lions will have to think long and hard about extending him a second-round tender. He's a critical piece on offense, and would draw interest around the league if only given the original-pick tag.

Joique Bell (knee) returned to practice Thursday, as expected.
Bell took a rest day Wednesday after touching the ball 30 times in the Week 16 loss to the Giants. The dynamic all-purpose back will be ready for his usual role in the season finale and could see extra work as Reggie Bush continues to put the ball on the ground.

Joique Bell was held out of Wednesday's Lions practice with a knee injury.
The extent is unknown, but Bell could use the rest coming off a career-high 30 touches in last week's loss to the Giants. If Bell returns to practice Thursday or Friday, he'll be on track to play this week against Minnesota.
