Wed May 21 201416:20Doubront says he bumped shoulder on car door
Felix Doubront told the Red Sox medical staff that he bumped his left shoulder on a car door Monday.
That might help explain his feeling of shoulder weakness (and subsequent dip in velocity) in Tuesday's five-run, four-inning thrashing by the Blue Jays. Doubront was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with what's being termed a "left shoulder strain" -- though it sounds like it might just be a contusion. Allen Webster, Brandon Workman, and Rubby De La Rosa are the candidates to fill Boston's vacant rotation spot.

Wed May 21 201414:40Felix Doubront (shoulder) placed on DL
Red Sox placed LHP Felix Doubront on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain.
The Red Sox haven't revealed exactly what Doubront's MRI showed, but obviously it was bad enough that he's going to miss at least a couple weeks. More information a potential timetable should be available later Wednesday. The Red Sox have not yet announced who will take Doubront's spot in the rotation, but Allen Webster, Brandon Workman and Rubby De La Rosa are all candidates.

Tue May 20 201423:23Doubront shaky, exits Tuesday's outing early
Felix Doubront took the loss, allowing five runs over four innings against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Doubront allowed five hits, including two home runs, while walking three and striking out two. The left-hander departed early with what was described as left shoulder fatigue. If Doubront requires a stint on the disabled list, he'll do so with a 5.12 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 31/19 K/BB ratio. His next start, against the Rays on the road, could be in jeopardy at the very least.

Tue May 20 201422:47Doubront (shoulder) to under MRI Wednesday
Felix Doubront (shoulder) will undergo an MRI Wednesday.
Doubront was pulled from Tuesday's start because he was feeling a "restriction" in his left shoulder that was affecting his arm speed. Even if the MRI comes back clean, it would seem that a trip to the disabled list would still be a possibility. The southpaw holds a 5.12 ERA over nine starts this season.

Felix Doubront left Tuesday's start against the Blue Jays with left shoulder fatigue.
Doubront was pulled from the outing in the fifth inning after summoning the trainer to the mound. It's not clear at this point if an MRI will be performed, but a trip to the disabled list would seem to be a distinct possibility. Doubront allowed four runs on five hits and three walks before exiting Tuesday.

Tue May 20 201420:33Felix Doubront exits with apparent injury
Felix Doubront left Tuesday's start versus the Blue Jays in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.
He called the trainer to the mound after allowing back-to-back doubles and eventually walked off the field and into the clubhouse. Doubront probably wasn't going to be in much longer, having allowed four runs on five hits and three walks before exiting with a runner on second. The Red Sox should update his status shortly.

Wed May 14 201423:52Felix Doubront limits Twins to one run
Felix Doubront yielded one run in 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in a win over Minnesota.
Doubront was a little shaky early, but he retired nine straight in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before getting into trouble and getting pulled in the seventh. Blake Burdenhop bailed him out then, stranding both runners he inherited. Doubront's win was his first since his season debut back on April 3.

Felix Doubront will make his next start Wednesday against the Twins.
Doubront was originally slated to pitch Tuesday, but he has flip-flopped with Jake Peavy in the starting rotation. The southpaw allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings in his last start, but owns a 5.09 ERA and 1.56 WHIP on the year.

Thu May 1 201423:18Felix Doubront gives up four runs to Rays
Felix Doubront yielded four runs -- three earned -- in six innings Friday against the Rays.
Doubront gave up two bombs, one of them coming after the left side of an infield failed to communicate and completely blew a routine popup (at least it was ruled an error on Will Middlebrooks instead of a ridiculous double for Evan Longoria). Apart from those pitches, he was quite good; he allowed just three other hits, walked one and struck out five. He left in line for the victory, but Junichi Tazawa blew the lead in the eighth.

Fri Apr 25 201417:56Felix Doubront to remain in Boston rotation
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that Felix Doubront will remain in the team's rotation.
For now, anyway. Doubront holds a 6.00 ERA through his first five starts this season and has twice failed to get through three innings. His leash isn't very long.

Thu Apr 24 201423:19Doubront takes third loss in ugly game vs NYY
Felix Doubront took his third loss of the season after allowing seven runs (three earned) in 2 2/3 innings in Thursday's start against the Yankees.
As his line shows, Doubront's defense wasn't any help, committing five errors. But Doubront was wild, literally and figuratively. Along with uncorking two wild pitches and one passed ball, Doubront allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out one. The lefty has flashed some talent at times, but has been far too inconsistent over 382 2/3 career innings. He'll look to put together a quality outing against the Rays next week.

Sat Apr 19 201416:53Felix Doubront holds Orioles to two runs
Felix Doubront pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Orioles on Saturday.
Doubront thought he had a strikeout to finish the seventh, going to far as to jump off the mound. However, the pitch was ruled a ball and Doubront ended up walking Nick Markakis, which got him lifted from the game and cost him a win. The Red Sox went on to break a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and prevailed 4-2. That was too late for Doubront, though.

Sun Apr 13 201423:16Doubront pitches decently in loss to Yankees
Felix Doubront pitched decently in Sunday's loss to the Yankees, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings of work.
Doubront walked three while striking out two on the evening. Most of the damage came early on, when Carlos Beltran blasted a two-run homer in the third inning. Through three starts, he now sits at 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 8/7 K/BB ratio. If he continues to struggle, Chris Capuano is lurking in the bullpen and could be given a shot to start. Doubront will look to right the ship on Saturday against the Orioles.

Tue Apr 8 201421:24Doubront takes the loss against the Rangers
Felix Doubront was ineffective, taking the loss after allowing five runs in 2 2/3 innings in Tuesday's start against the Rangers.
Doubront allowed six hits and three walks while striking out two. The lefty wasn't very effective as a part of the Red Sox rotation in 2012-13, posting a 4.59 ERA over 56 starts and two relief appearances. It's tough to expect him to be any better this season. At any rate, he'll get the Yankees his next time out on Sunday.

Thu Apr 3 201422:19Felix Doubront gives up three runs in win
Felix Doubront pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs Thursday in a win over the Orioles.
The last run came after he exited with one out and a man on first in the sixth. Doubront was effective apart from the fourth, when he allowed two run-scoring hits with two outs. He struck out four and walked one. Next up for him is a home start against Texas.

Fri Mar 28 201416:13Felix Doubront combines on shutout
Felix Doubront scattered seven hits over five innings and combined with four relievers on a shutout of the Twins on Friday.
Doubront also walked two, but he was able to pitch his way out of trouble with his seven strikeouts. He wasn't nearly as sharp in the second half of the spring as he was in the first, so we have pretty modest expectations for him initially. He likely is worth using in AL-only leagues, though.

Sun Mar 23 201417:44Felix Doubront gives up eight runs in loss
Felix Doubront was lit up for eight runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Rays.
Doubront's second straight rough outing included one pitch completely spiked into the ground, resulting in a balk. Doubront missed enough bats to strike out six batters, but the Rays made plenty of quality contact, too, collecting a homer and four doubles against him. The Red Sox were probably thinking this could be a breakthrough season for Doubront after he showed up in great shape and looked strong in his first couple of outings. Inconsistency has always troubled him, though.

Tue Mar 18 201416:34Felix Doubront pounded for seven runs
Felix Doubront was tagged for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Yankees on Tuesday.
So much for Doubront's excellent spring: he had pitched six scoreless innings, with just three hits and no walks allowed, coming into this one. He admitted to a bit of a dead arm afterwards, which isn't unusual for this time of the spring. It sounds like he'll stay on his normal schedule.
