Heston lasted just two innings Sunday, giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out two in the 9-8 win over Cincinnati.
Coming off of the best start of his career, Heston imploded in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. The wheels came off in the third inning when he allowed the first five Reds to reach base. Heston has now alternated strong and poor outings over his last six starts. If you follow SAT logic, his next start at Coors Field should be a gem. But logic says that owners in standard leagues should steer clear of the rookie in the tough matchup against the Rockies next Saturday.

Heston pitched a complete game Tuesday against the Astros, only allowing two hits and one run while striking out 10.
His only run came off of a solo home run, and he needed only 111 pitches to make it through the entire game. His starts have been inconsistent this season, allowing five or more runs in two of his starts, but also posting four starts when he's allowed just one earned run. He'll look to string two solid starts together in his next outing, Sunday against the Reds.

Heston (2-3) gave up five runs on 11 hits and three walks over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Padres.
An awful outing for Heston, and he's frankly lucky that it wasn't worse, considering he put a whopping 14 men on base. That's almost three per inning. Heston has been one of the surprises of the early season, but he's now been touched up twice in his last three games. Still, his overall numbers -- 3.38 ERA and 29 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 37.1 innings -- are pretty solid, so he retains some fantasy intrigue.

Heston struck out five and walked one while giving up one run on five hits over 6.1 innings against the Angels on Friday night.
He did not factor in the decision. Heston's command is still inconsistent from inning to inning, but he's avoided major damage in four of his starts, with the only real blemish coming at Coors Field. Heston is effectively eating innings for the Giants, but his peripherals (7.0 K/9, 18.9% K%, 2.0 BB/9, 5.3%) are actually an improvement over his marks at Triple-A last season, so it would hardly be surprising to see him take a step back as the league gets another look at him in the coming weeks. Heston will face the Padres in a home start Wednesday for his next turn in the rotation.

Heston struck out four and walked one while allowing six runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings against the Rockies on Friday night.
Although he managed the four strikeouts, Heston wasn't generating swinging strikes Friday night, as he finished with just five whiffs (88 pitches, 57 strikes) in the outing. He'll face another tough test Wednesday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

The Giants aren't inclined to move Heston up a day to Thursday against the Dodgers, despite Monday's day off, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Instead, the Giants will use either Yusmeiro Petit or Ryan Vogelsong for the start.
It's the Giants' usual practice not to advance a pitcher when there's an off-day, preferring instead to give all their pitchers an extra day of rest. The bad news for Heston is that he now gets his next start at Coors Field.

Heston was a tough luck loser Monday, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks over seven innings, striking out five.
Heston got zero runs of support Monday. He's playing the role of Matt Cain to a tee. He'll get another start this week, and if he does well the Giants might have to consider finding a way to keep him in the rotation beyond that.

With Ryan Vogelsong throwing 68 pitches in relief Saturday, Heston - as expected - should make the second start of his career Monday against the Rockies.
Heston looked strong in his first major league start, earning a win against the Diamondbacks. He will face a tougher challenge Monday, when he takes on a red-hot Colorado lineup. The start is fortunately at home as opposed to Coors, but it would still be a risky endeavor relying on such an unproved arm against a tough lineup.

Heston picked up the first win of his career as he allowed two unearned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
Heston started in place of Matt Cain (forearm) and gave up a run in the first inning without giving up a hit. He then proceeded to pitch five more effective innings to pick up the win. If he continues to pitch effectively, he may earn a starting job in the rotation for the Giants.
Tue Apr 7 201519:11Heston officially recalled by Giants on Tuesday
Heston was officially recalled by the Giants on Tuesday.
The Giants made it official, adding Heston to their 25-man roster after announcing earlier that Heston would start in place of Matt Cain (forearm) on Wednesday against Arizona. Heston fared well while with the big club in spring training, but the team could turn to Yusmeiro Petit to fill Cain's spot if Heston struggles.
Tue Apr 7 201518:43Chris Heston: Will Start Wednesday
Heston will start Wednesday against the Diamondbacks in place of Matt Cain (forearm), Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Cain has been diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon in his right arm and Heston will get the first shot at holding down his rotation spot, manager Bruce Bochy confirmed. Heston spent 2014 with Triple-A Fresno, going 12-9 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 over 173 innings. He had a 2.40 ERA and .192 BAA in 15 frames with the big club this spring.

Heston has been announced as the starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Padres, CSN's Andrew Baggarly reports.
Heston will get the nod with the Giants wanting to save their five regular starting pitchers for the postseason. Heston posted a 3.38 ERA and 125:51 K:BB ratio in 173 over 28 starts with Triple-A Fresno this season.

Heston will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Fresno on Sunday.
Heston already has a career-high 173 inning under his belt this season at Triple-A Fresno, over which he's posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 125:51 K:BB ratio. He'll serve as bullpen depth for the Giants down the stretch, and could be considered in an emergency spot start scenario.

Fri Mar 22 201319:18Chris Heston hammered by Rockies
Chris Heston's miserable spring continued on Friday as he was torched for five runs on five hits in just four innings of work against the Rockies.
Heston also walked three while striking out two on the afternoon. He's the proud owner of a 9.28 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 5/4 K/BB ratio through 10 2/3 innings this spring. The 24-year-old posted gaudy numbers at the Double-A level in 2012, but isn't close to securing a spot in the Giants rotation any time soon.
