Fri Dec 16 201116:33Mets have talked to free agent Ronny Cedeno
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Mets have talked to free agent Ronny Cedeno.
We knew the Mets were talking to Jack Wilson, but this is the first mention of Cedeno. Either player would likely serve as a backup for Ruben Tejada, who is taking over the shortstop position from Jose Reyes. Cedeno has also drawn interest this winter from the division-rival Braves. The 28-year-old batted just .257/.306/.351 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 423 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in 2011.

Thu Dec 15 201110:23Braves interested in free agent Ronny Cedeno
According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves are among the teams interested in free agent Ronny Cedeno.
The Braves plan to give Tyler Pastornicky a chance to win the starting shortstop job, but they remain in the market for a veteran backup. Cedeno, who turns 29 in February, batted just .257/.306/.351 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 423 plate appearances this season for the Pirates. O'Brien hears that he's been on their list of potential backup shortstops and utility infielders all offseason.

According to Pirates' beat writer Jennifer Langosch, Ronny Cedeno is questionable for Saturday's game with soreness in his left leg.
Cedeno injured himself on a collision with Xavier Paul in Friday's game. Both players are out of the lineup for Saturday, but Paul is available off the bench. Pedro Ciriaco and Matt Diaz will start in place of the two injured Buccos.

Mon Jul 11 201121:20Cedeno (concussion) will travel with team
Ronny Cedeno (concussion) will travel with the Pirates for their first series following the All-Star break against the Astros.

Wed Jul 6 201120:22Ronny Cedeno won't return before AS break
Ronny Cedeno (concussion) will not return before the All-Star break.
No surprise there. Cedeno is eligible to return Saturday but has not resumed baseball activities since being concussed last Friday. He was scheduled to undergo an ImPACT concussion test Wednesday and hoped to be cleared for light exercises if he passes. It's possible he could return for the first game after the break, but it's not a given.

Tue Jul 5 201100:02Cedeno (concussion) not cleared to exercise
Ronny Cedeno (concussion) still hasn't been cleared to resume exercising.
Cedeno is at least feeling better than he was over the weekend, but he's currently fighting off congestion from a cold. It seems likely that the Pirates will keep him out through the All-Star break, which means Chase d'Arnaud should get most of the playing time at shortstop this week.

Sun Jul 3 201111:57Ronny Cedeno feeling 'slow'
Ronny Cedeno (concussion) reported no improvement in his condition on Sunday.
Cedeno said he's feeling "slow." It sounds like this will definitely be longer than a minimum seven-day stint on the disabled list. Consider the shortstop out indefinitely. Chase d'Arnaud will get most of the playing time at short while Cedeno is out.

Sat Jul 2 201115:26Ronny Cedeno lands on DL
Pirates placed SS Ronny Cedeno on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.
Cedeno was hit in the back of the head while trying to break up a double play Friday. He'll be eligible to return next weekend, but it's unclear at this point whether that might be a possibility. It's bad timing for Cedeno, who has actually been swinging a hot bat lately with a .455 average over his last 11 games. Brandon Wood figures to get most of the time at shortstop while Cedeno is out, though Pedro Ciriaco was recalled from Triple-A.

Sat Jul 2 201114:24Ronny Cedeno likely DL-bound with concussion
Ronny Cedeno is likely headed to the disabled list due to a concussion.
It's not clear when he suffered the injury, but Cedeno played all of Friday's game. With the new 7-day DL for concussions, Cedeno could conceivably return for the first game after the All-Star break, but it's too early to tell if that's possible.

Wed Jun 29 201122:18Ronny Cedeno has another two-hit night
Ronny Cedeno went 2-for-3 with the Pirates' lone RBI in their 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday evening.
The two-hit night was Cedeno's second in three games, and sixth in 12 starts since June 15, upping his average from .221 to .251. He's picked a good time to start hitting, as the Pirates are going to have to embark on a reshuffling of their infield whenever Pedro Alvarez finally returns from the disabled list.

Wed Jun 22 201113:51Ronny Cedeno benched Wednesday
Ronny Cedeno was benched for Wednesday's game after drawing the ire of Pirates manager Clint Hurdle for attempting to bunt with the bases loaded Tuesday.
"The manager picked a day off for Ronny," Hurdle said. "[It's a] good day to regain focus." Although Hurdle didn't confirm that the benching was for the attempted bunt, it's pretty clear it was. "I've never seen a bunt with the bases loaded before," the manager said. It's the second time this season that Cedeno, who is batting just .232 with a .615 OPS this season, has been benched, as he sat out on April 27 after not running out a ground ball in a loss the previous night. Brandon Wood is playing shortstop Wednesday.

Fri May 27 201110:45Ronny Cedeno won't move up in order
Ronny Cedeno isn't poised to move up in the batting order despite hitting safely in 19 of his past 23 games.
Nor should he be. Cedeno is still hitting only .250/.312/.336 on the year despite the recent surge. He belongs at the bottom of the order.

Fri May 20 201109:02Cedeno hitting well of late
Ronny Cedeno has hit safely in 15 of his past 18 starts, going 18-for-56 (.321) in the process.
Cedeno is still hitting just .246 on the season, but his recent play is one of the reasons Brandon Wood hasn't been seeing more time at shortstop. Cedeno isn't a bad bench option for most NL-only league players.

Fri Apr 29 201117:14Cedeno back in lineup Friday
Ronny Cedeno is back in the Pirates' starting lineup Friday against the Rockies.
Cedeno didn't start the previous three games. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle won't say that he has lost his job, but Brandon Wood is a clear threat to his playing time. Feel free to ignore him in fantasy leagues.

Thu Apr 28 201109:01Cedeno out of lineup again Wednesday
Ronny Cedeno is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Thursday.
It looks like the Pirates want to see what they have with Brandon Wood. Cedeno batted just .256 with a .675 OPS last season and has a .185 batting average over his first 65 at-bats this season, so it's unlikely any fantasy owner will miss him.

Fri Mar 4 201109:32Cedeno scratched Friday with sore finger
Ronny Cedeno was scratched from Friday's spring game because of a sore right middle finger.
Cedeno nicked the finger on Thursday while trying to field a grounder off the bat of Toronto's Rajai Davis. He is planning to take fielding practice on the side Friday in Pirates camp and should be able to return to live action at some point this weekend. All is well.
