Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Mets have talked to free agent Ronny Cedeno.

We knew the Mets were talking to Jack Wilson, but this is the first mention of Cedeno. Either player would likely serve as a backup for Ruben Tejada, who is taking over the shortstop position from Jose Reyes. Cedeno has also drawn interest this winter from the division-rival Braves. The 28-year-old batted just .257/.306/.351 with two home runs and 31 RBI in 423 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in 2011.

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves are among the teams interested in free agent Ronny Cedeno.

The Braves plan to give Tyler Pastornicky a chance to win the starting shortstop job, but they remain in the market for a veteran backup. It's the second time this season that Cedeno, who is batting just .232 with a .615 OPS this season, has been benched, as he sat out on April 27 after not running out a ground ball in a loss the previous night. Brandon Wood is playing shortstop Wednesday.

Cedeno is still hitting just .246 on the season, but his recent play is one of the reasons Brandon Wood hasn't been seeing more time at shortstop. Cedeno isn't a bad bench option for most NL-only league players.

Cedeno nicked the finger on Thursday while trying to field a grounder off the bat of Toronto's Rajai Davis. He is planning to take fielding practice on the side Friday in Pirates camp and should be able to return to live action at some point this weekend. All is well.
