Sat Jul 26 201419:35Pierzynski records three hits in Cards debut
A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-4 in his Cardinals debut on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, playing a big role in a 6-3 win over the rival Cubs.
Pierzynski grounded out in his first at-bat but singled in the next three, driving home an important insurance run in the Cards' four-run seventh inning. He was not hitting well in Boston, but the 37-year-old catcher has good career offensive numbers and is going to get semi-regular playing time in St. Louis while Yadier Molina (thumb) is out. Pierzynski is relevant again in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

He's hitting sixth in the lineup for his Cardinals debut. While he's a shell of his former self, as long as he's receiving regular playing time behind the dish in St. Louis, he's fantasy-relevant again in two-catcher formats.

Fri Jul 25 201421:53Cardinals agree to deal with A.J. Pierzynski
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Cardinals have reached an agreement with free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
The veteran backstop is already in Chicago and will join the team before Saturday's game. His arrival likely signals the end of George Kottaras' brief time with the Cardinals. Pierzynzki should see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate, and is certainly worth a look in deep two-catcher mixed leagues.

Fri Jul 25 201421:39Report: Cardinals close to signing Pierzynski
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals are in the process of signing free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
Pierzynski was cut loose by the Red Sox on July 16 after the 37-year-old backstop struggled to the tune of .254/.286/.348 with four homers through his first 72 games. With Yadier Molina on the shelf, he represents a definite upgrade for the Cardinals over George Kottaras and Tony Cruz.

Wed Jul 16 201415:28Catcher A.J. Pierzynski released by Red Sox
Red Sox released C A.J. Pierzynski.
Not surprisingly, the Red Sox were unable to find a trade partner after designating Pierzynski for assignment. The 37-year-old hit just .254/.286/.348 with four homers for Boston over 72 games for Boston, but he can be had at the veteran minimum now and should be scooped up by someone. However, he might not be able to find a starting job.

Fri Jul 11 201410:16Cardinals not interested in A.J. Pierzynski
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are not interested in A.J. Pierzynski.
It was natural to connect the recently designated for assignment Pierzynski to the Cards following Yadier Molina's thumb injury, but there doesn't appear to be a fit. Pierzynski hit only .254/.286/.348 for the Red Sox and reportedly did not fit in well in their clubhouse.

Wed Jul 9 201414:39Red Sox to DFA catcher A.J. Pierzynski
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox will designate A.J. Pierzynski for assignment.
Pierzynski has managed a poor .254/.286/.348 batting line with just four homers and 31 RBI this season, and the Sox have apparently decided they've had enough. The veteran catcher is making $8.25 million this year, and Boston will have to eat the remainder of that contract once Pierzynski clears waivers. Pierzynski, 37, figures to receive some interest on the open market, but it's possible he might not be able to find a starting job. Christian Vazquez is expected to replace Pierzynski on the roster.

A.J. Pierzynski was ejected from Wednesday's game after Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk in the sixth inning.
Pierzynski was 1-for-3 prior to being tossed. It is very rare for a catcher to be ejected from a game while on defense, but no further punishment should be coming. David Ross entered the game at catcher.
