Wed Jul 23 201419:04Tejada feels 'pretty good' after HBP in head
Mets manager Terry Collins said Ruben Tejada feels "pretty good" after leaving Wednesday's game due to being hit in the head with a pitch.
It's good news, as Tejada could have easily been more seriously injured. Team doctors said he has no concussion symptoms, so a roster move won't be made at this time. Tejada will travel home with the team and should be back in the lineup shortly.

Wed Jul 23 201417:05Tejada exits game after taking pitch to head
Ruben Tejada left Wednesday's game against the Mariners after taking a Taijuan Walker pitch to the head.
The ball hit the front of Tejada's helmet and knocked it off. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, but the Mets will surely run concussion tests.

Sat Jun 7 201419:33Collins considering batting Tejada leadoff
Mets manager Terry Collins said Saturday he's considering using Ruben Tejada in the leadoff spot going forward.
Matt den Dekker batted leadoff on Saturday, but Tejada has entered the conversation with his hot hitting of late. The shortstop is 14-for-33 (.424) since he was held out of three straight games in mid-May. It'd be a nice boost in runs scored for owners in NL-only leagues, but he's still a speculative play in any mixed leagues despite the good stretch.

Sun Jun 1 201411:42Ruben Tejada ends homerless drought
Ruben Tejada went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two walks in Saturday's 14-inning win over the Phillies.
The solo shot was his first home run since August 1, 2012. Tejada went 611 plate appearances between home runs, giving him the longest active streak in the majors. Of course, the Phillies' Ben Revere had the longest before he went deep last Tuesday. With Revere and Tejada off the board, John Baker now has the longest homerless streak in the majors.

Tue May 27 201423:12Tejada reaches base four times, swipes bag
Ruben Tejada went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Pirates.
Tuesday marked just the eighth time in his career that Tejada had reached base four times on any combination of hits and walks, and only two of those eight games also included a stolen base. Tejada also got his average back over the Mendoza line with the effort, now slashing a meager .209/.331/.252.

Sat May 17 201414:57Collins confirms Ruben Tejada still starter
Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed Saturday that Ruben Tejada is still the team's starting shortstop.
It had been expected that Wilmer Flores would get an opportunity to be the everyday shortstop once recalled from Triple-A, but that simply hasn't and won't be the case. Collins prefers Tejada's tremendous glovework and has been impressed by what he's done at the plate lately as well. It's a disappointing development for fantasy owners who were hoping to capitalize on Flores' offensive potential.

Tue May 13 201423:41Ruben Tejada has 'earned' SS job back
Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that Ruben Tejada "has earned his way back into the lineup."
Wilmer Flores started two games in a row at shortstop after being recalled over the weekend, but Tejada has responded to the pressure with four hits, three walks and a couple RBI over the last three nights. Although Tejada is certainly the better option defensively at short, fantasy owners were selfishly hoping Flores could run away with the job since he's much better with the bat.

Sun May 11 201418:25Tejada delivers walk-off single vs. Phillies
Ruben Tejada went 2-for-4 with a walk-off single in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
With the bases loaded and one out, Tejada lined a single past a drawn-in infield to give the Mets an 11-inning win. The hits were Tejada's first in May as Wilmer Flores has threatened to take his job in recent days, and the shortstop is still batting just .195 on the year.

Wed May 7 201415:29Ruben Tejada goes hitless again
Ruben Tejada was hitless in his two at-bats in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.
He's now without a base hit in his last four games to drop his season line to a sickly .183/.302/.207. Tejada simply belongs nowhere near a fantasy lineup.

Sat May 3 201400:02Tejada hitting .200 through 26 games
Ruben Tejada went 0-for-3 with a walk on Friday against the Rockies and is hitting just .200 through 26 games.
Tejada has 13 walks and a .318 on-base percentage, but that's not as impressive as it looks. Hitting No. 8 in front of the pitcher, five of the walks are intentional. If Tejada continues to struggle, it will be interesting to see if the Mets give Wilmer Flores a chance at shortstop, even with all the doubts about his range. Flores jammed his finger in a game with Triple-A Las Vegas over the weekend, but he managed to avoid a fracture.

Thu Mar 20 201417:08Ruben Tejada goes 3-for-3 in victory
Ruben Tejada went 3-for-3 with a double in the Mets' 7-6 win over the Braves on Thursday.
Anthony Recker hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Mets. Tejada's strong showing was much-needed; he raised his average from .120 to .217 on the day. Despite his struggles both offensively and defensively this spring, he will be the Mets' starting shortstop.

Fri Mar 14 201410:49Collins: Tejada 'going to be in the lineup'
Mets manager Terry Collins said he told Ruben Tejada after Thursday's poor showing, "you're the shortstop here."
"I talked to him today about trying to relax a little bit," Collins said. "I said, `Listen, you're the shortstop here. Your name and your number are going to be in the lineup. Go be the player we know you can be." Tejada is 1-for-15 and has committed three errors in Grapefruit League play, but he remains the club's best internal option at shortstop. However, Tejada's struggles could help convince GM Sandy Alderson to go after Nick Franklin or Stephen Drew.

Thu Mar 13 201417:01Ruben Tejada goes hitless, commits error
Ruben Tejada went 0-for-3 as the Mets' leadoff hitter and committed an error against the Nationals on Thursday.
With one hit in 15 at-bats and three errors, Tejada is doing nothing to inspire any confidence. He's still the Mets' best internal option at shortstop, but he's making Stephen Drew look like a better alternative every day.

Fri Mar 7 201417:19Ruben Tejada struggles in return to lineup
Ruben Tejada went 0-for-2 and struggled defensively Friday in his return from a mild hamstring injury.
Tejada had two balls get by him at shortstop. One was an error. The other was a hit, but Tejada should have been able to knock it down, which would have at least prevented the runner from scoring from second. That Tejada was making his first appearance in a week could get him a bit of a free pass, but he's done nothing so far to solidify the starting job that's his to win.

Tue Mar 4 201416:46Tejada (hammy) out until at least Friday
Ruben Tejada (hamstring) isn't expected to return to action until at least Friday.

Sun Mar 2 201412:32Ruben Tejada scratched with tight hamstring
Ruben Tejada was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a tight left hamstring.
It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined, but Tejada can't afford to miss too much time as he tries to work his way back into the Mets' good graces. Anthony Seratelli is starting at shortstop Sunday in Tejada's place.

Mon Feb 24 201420:31Ruben Tejada still out of shape
Kevin Kernan of the New Yost Post reports that the Mets have "not been overwhelmed" by the shape Ruben Tejada reported to camp in.
Tejada attended an offseason conditioning program at the request of the Mets, but a source told Kernan that the shortstop "looks pretty much the same" as he did before. It's clear that he's still not in the team's good graces, but with Omar Quintanilla currently the only thing standing in his way, he still holds the starting shortstop job. The Mets, of course, have been linked to Stephen Drew for some time now, but they appear at the moment only willing to offer him a one-year, $9.5 million deal.

Wed Jan 15 201421:05Mets, Tejada avoid arb with one-year contract
Mets and Ruben Tejada avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
Tejada struggled mightily in 2013, batting .202/.259/.260 in 57 games. The Mets have continuously stated a willingness to enter next season with the 24-year-old as their starting shortstop, but they're also believed to be keeping their options open. The team is believed to be one of the clubs in the market for Stephen Drew.

Mon Jan 6 201416:39Tejada to continue offseason fitness program
Ruben Tejada will head back to Michigan this month for the next phase of his offseason conditioning program.
Tejada was among seven Mets players who were sent to a four-week fitness camp back in November. The Mets haven't given up on him and have even expressed confidence publicly in the prospect of him opening 2014 as the starting shortstop, but it's still possible that they'll sign Stephen Drew if the price is right.
