Mon Mar 4 201311:40Hultzen scratched Monday with strained hip
Danny Hultzen was scratched from a Cactus League outing Monday because of a mild right hip flexor strain.
Hultzen is expected to be shut down for about a week. The 23-year-old left-hander is not in the running for an Opening Day roster spot, so he can take his time recovering. He posted a 3.05 ERA and 136/75 K/BB ratio in 124 innings last season between Double-A and Triple-A.

Danny Hultzen tossed two scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mariners' 5-1 defeat of the Indians.
Hultzen issued a walk and allowed two hits but he struck out four of the nine batters he faced. The talented young left-hander seems likely to make his major league debut at some point in 2013. He registered a 3.05 ERA and 9.9 K/9 over 25 minor league starts last season.

Thu Jan 10 201321:11M's offered four players for Upton
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners offered one of Danny Hultzen, James Paxton or Taijuan Walker, plus Nick Franklin, Charlie Furbush and Stephen Pryor to the Diamondbacks for Justin Upton.
It would have been quite a haul for the D'Backs, but it's a moot point unless Upton changes his mind and winds up accepting a deal to the Mariners. While the M's are one of four teams on Upton's no-trade list, it's possible a deal could be revived. The Rangers and Braves are also in the mix.

Sun Aug 19 201223:36Hultzen showing progress at Triple-A
Danny Hultzen pitched five hitless innings Sunday for Triple-A Tacoma.
Hultzen isn't any closer to a promotion, but he should find himself in position for a September callup if he continues to progress. Since moving to the Triple-A level, he's posting a 4.35 ERA with 50 strikeouts over 41-plus innings (nine starts) this season.

Mon Jul 9 201208:22Report: Hultzen not close to promotion
According to CBSSports.com, Mariners pitching prospect Danny Hultzen isn't close to a promotion, and could spend the entire season in the minors.
The Mariners are spot starting Hisashi Iwakuma and recently optioned Hector Noesi, so we find that hard to believe out of necessity, if nothing else. Hultzen has a 5.25 ERA in three starts since being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma last month. He should find himself in a callup situation at some point during the second half.

Sun Mar 11 201215:46Danny Hultzen optioned to minors
Mariners optioned LHP Danny Hultzen to Triple-A Tacoma.
There had been reports that Hultzen had an outside shot to win a spot in the rotation, but obviously that's not going to happen. The No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft, the left-hander has yet to officially throw a professional pitch but did hold a 1.40 ERA and 18/5 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings. He has a shot to crack the team's rotation at some point this season and is a fine keeper league option.

Fri Mar 9 201219:12Hultzen could win spot in M's rotation
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com writes that the door is open for prospect left-hander Danny Hultzen to win a spot in the starting rotation.
Hultzen, James Paxton and Taijuan Walker have generated plenty of buzz at Mariners' camp, but they have only appeared in intrasquad and B-games thus far, which is a pretty firm indication that they'll begin the season in the minors. Barring injuries, Hisashi Iwakuma, Kevin Millwood and Hector Noesi are the favorites to follow Felix Hernandez and Jason Vargas in the rotation. However, the rotation could look a lot different during the second half of the season.
