Payton missed two preseason games with the injury and while he may not play Saturday in an exhibition game against Brazilian champions Flamengo, he should be available for the beginning of the regular season.

Payton (hamstring) will not play in Sunday's game against the Rockets, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Payton is dealing with a sore right hamstring, but it's nothing to be too concerned about. The Magic are likely just being cautious at this point and want to give their guard a break. Victor Oladipo will temporarily move over to point guard in his place, allowing Evan Fournier to start at shooting guard. Payton will likely return to action for the Magic's matchup with the Heat on Tuesday.

Payton is shooting 38.1 percent from the field and averaging 5.3 points, four assists, and three rebounds while seeing 21.2 minutes per game in the Magic's three preseason contests to date.

Though not much credence should be afforded to preseason numbers, Payton hasn't done much to uphold confidence in him delivering a second-year breakout. The 2014 first-round pick struggled from both the field and the free-throw line during summer league play, and hasn't shown much improvement in that regard during the exhibition schedule. The athleticism Payton brings to the point guard spot should lend itself to plenty of counting stats production in the form of assists, rebounds, and steals, but his broken shot may inhibit him from emerging as much more than a low-double-digits scorer.

Payton will not participate the rest of the Orlando Pro Summer League, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Payton rested the third game of summer league after being involved in a minor car accident. There were no injuries to report, and the decision to remove him from the squad doesn't is unrelated to the accident. He averaged 5.5 points, 6.5 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.5 rebounds, and 4.5 turnovers in 25.5 minutes per game while converting 31 percent of his field goals and 40 percent of his free throws.
