Tue Jun 17 2014 | 01:53 | Lewis hangs on long enough to beat the A's |
Colby Lewis allowed five runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings in a 14-8 triumph over the A's on Monday. |
Lewis wasn't exactly impressive -- striking out two and walking three -- but he really didn't have to do much to earn the victory outside of watching Drew Pomeranz's implosion from the dugout. He managed to raise his .336 opponent's batting average, which would be the worst mark in the majors if Lewis had pitched enough innings to qualify. The veteran has scuffled throughout the season, but he's never struggled against Oakland, against whom he entered 5-1 with a 2.69 ERA in his last nine outings. Lewis, now 5-4 with a 5.97 ERA, gets the Angels on Sunday. |

Tue Jun 10 2014 | 23:58 | Lewis allows three runs over five vs. Marlins |
Colby Lewis allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings and was fortunate to escape with a no-decision against the Marlins on Tuesday. |
Lewis was in trouble for much of the night, as he walked four to go along with his seven hits allowed. But the Marlins largely failed to take advantage, saving Lewis from earning his fifth loss of the season. Lewis still owns an ugly 5.74 ERA and 1.81 WHIP to go with his 4-4 mark. Things don't get any easier for Lewis on Monday when he takes on the Athletics in Oakland. |

Thu Jun 5 2014 | 23:33 | Lewis struggles again in ND vs. the Orioles |
Colby Lewis struggled and took the no-decision, allowing five runs in five innings as the Rangers defeated the Orioles 8-6 on Thursday. |
Lewis allowed five-plus runs for the fourth time in 10 starts this season. He surrendered seven hits -- including a two-run home run to Nick Markakis -- walked two and struck out four in the effort. Lewis carries an unsavory 5.77 ERA and 1.77 WHIP, but can deflate both with a solid outing in his next start at home against the Marlins. |

Fri May 30 2014 | 22:00 | Colby Lewis hit hard in loss to Nationals |
Colby Lewis was hit hard in a losing effort against the Nationals on Friday, allowing five runs on nine hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work. |
The veteran right-hander walked a pair and punched out five. The big blow against him came in the fourth inning when Ian Desmond belted a three-run homer to put the Nationals on top for good. He has struggled since returning from the disabled list, posting a 5.44 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through his first 48 innings on the season. He'll look to turn things around on Thursday when he takes on the Orioles. |

Wed May 21 2014 | 00:02 | Lewis gives up five runs in loss to Mariners |
Colby Lewis allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings in a loss to the Mariners on Tuesday. |
Lewis also walked three in the game. It was a disappointing effort after he tossed 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball against the Astros his last time out. Lewis did strike out six in his six innings of work, the lone bright spot of the night. He takes a 5.40 ERA and 1.75 WHIP into another tough test Sunday at the Tigers. |

Tue May 13 2014 | 00:14 | Colby Lewis fans eight in win over Astros |
Colby Lewis blanked the Astros for 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight, in a win over the Astros on Monday. |
Lewis rebounded nicely from a drubbing at the hands of the Rockies last Wednesday. Of course, this was a far easier assignment. Lewis managed to hold the Astros scoreless despite giving up seven hits, including a double and a triple. He also walked two. It helped the Astros were just 1-for-3 in steal attempts against him. Lewis isn't recommended in AL-only leagues with the Jays next on the schedule. |

Wed May 7 2014 | 23:37 | Colby Lewis gives up seven runs to Rockies |
Colby Lewis was the latest starter roughed up by the Rockies on Wednesday, giving up seven runs and 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. |
Lewis wasn't going deep into games, but he was pretty solid in his four previous starts for the Rangers. Getting lit up by the game's hottest offense probably won't hurt his standing overly much. He will need to fare quite a bit better next time out against the Astros, though. |

Sat May 3 2014 | 01:47 | Colby Lewis earns win over Angels |
Colby Lewis allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday in the Rangers' 5-2 win over the Angels. |
Lewis still hasn't lasted six innings in any of his four starts, but he has managed six strikeouts in each of his last two outings and his ERA is down to 4.26. He's looking like an option in AL-only leagues now, though his home start against the Rockies next week isn't a great matchup. |

Sun Apr 27 2014 | 00:52 | Colby Lewis allows three runs in no-decision |
Colby Lewis pitched five innings and allowed three runs Saturday in a no-decision versus the Mariners. |
Lewis gave up homers to Michael Saunders and Kyle Seager before being lifted. He struck out six, which seems like a good sign. His stuff isn't quite what it was before shoulder surgery, so the question is whether he'll miss enough bats to remains a useful big-league starter. We wouldn't want him active in AL-only leagues just yet. |

Sat Apr 19 2014 | 23:40 | Colby Lewis goes five-plus to beat White Sox |
Colby Lewis hurled 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball to lead the Rangers past the White Sox on Saturday. |
Lewis struggled in his first start Monday against the Mariners but cruised through Chicago's lineup Saturday, fanning four batters and issuing only one walk. He's still not a good fantasy bet, but the showing was promising for a Rangers team that needs some rotation stability. Lewis pitches at Safeco Field next. |

Tue Apr 15 2014 | 00:02 | Colby Lewis loses to Mariners |
Colby Lewis lost in his return to the majors after allowing four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Monday against the Mariners. |
Lewis doesn't have his old stuff back yet after shoulder surgery, so left-handers figure to give him fits. That's a problem against the Mariners lineup. Lewis will get a couple of more starts to prove himself before the Rangers figure out how to fit Matt Harrison into their rotation, with the White Sox next on the docket. He's not an option in AL-only leagues right now. |

Mon Apr 14 2014 | 16:28 | Rangers call up Lewis to start Monday vs. M's |
Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Colby Lewis from Triple-A Round Rock. |
Lewis allowed four runs -- two earned -- over four innings last Sunday in his lone start in Triple-A. The 34-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since surgery in June of 2012 to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. He's worth a look in AL-only leagues. |

Colby Lewis will start on Monday against the Mariners. |

Lewis was originally expected to pitch Saturday against the Astros, but the Rangers will wait while they decide whether Adrian Beltre (quad) needs to go on the disabled list. Lewis will be taking over for Joe Saunders, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a bruised left ankle. Lewis allowed four runs -- two earned -- in a four-inning rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Round Rock is not a good fantasy option, even against Houston. |

Colby Lewis is likely to replace the injured Joe Saunders in the Rangers' starting rotation. |

Colby Lewis allowed four runs -- two earned -- over four innings in a start Sunday at Triple-A Round Rock. |
It wasn't the sharpest outing, but Lewis has an opt-out date of April 10 and the Rangers may call him up this weekend to avoid losing the right-hander to the open market. Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas suspects that Lewis could take Joe Saunders' rotation spot. |

Colby Lewis will make his next start on Sunday at Triple-A Round Rock. |
There was some thought that Lewis could start Sunday for the Rangers, but the club wants to give him another minor league outing first. Assuming he gets through Sunday's outing with no issues, he should join the big league rotation late next week. |

Mon Mar 31 2014 | 11:58 | Colby Lewis could join Rangers on April 6 |
Colby Lewis could join the Rangers' rotation April 6. |
The original plan was for Lewis to join the major league club on April 11, but the Rangers' long list of spring training injuries may force an alteration. Lewis did not pitch in the big leagues in 2013 due to hip and elbow issues. He had a rough 8.00 ERA in four appearances this spring in the Cactus League and is doubtful to hold fantasy value in 2014. |

The move was expected, as Lewis will continue to get some work in the minors before being added to the Rangers' roster on April 11. The right-hander is working his way back from missing the entire 2013 season due to elbow and hip surgeries. |
