Fri Mar 28 201408:57Lewis expected to join Texas rotation Apr. 11
Colby Lewis is expected to be added to the Rangers' rotation on April 11.
Lewis has an opt-out clause that he can exercise on April 10, but, barring something unforeseen, he'll stick around and join the Rangers' depleted rotation. The righty tossed five scoreless frames versus the Mariners Wednesday but is slated for two minor league outings before being added to the roster. "If you judge by what he did against Seattle, he's ready," said manager Ron Washington. "But this guy just came off hip surgery. We want to make sure there is no issue, because once he goes into our rotation, we want every start we can get."

Colby Lewis could join the Rangers rotation by mid-April.
Lewis, who manager Ron Washington said is "very close" to being ready to be added to the rotation, will make a minor league start on April 1 and likely an addition minor league start after that. He could then join the Rangers' rotation, though Washington insists that nothing is guaranteed. "He'll make that start and if we have to reassess, we'll have to reassess," Washington said.

Tue Mar 25 201418:17Colby Lewis won't crack rotation
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that Colby Lewis will not make the Rangers' Opening Day rotation.
Lewis will pitch on Wednesday and again on April 1 in a minor league game before the team decides where he stands in his comeback from hip surgery. He holds an 18.00 ERA and 2/6 K/BB ratio over his four innings this spring, so it's no surprise the Rangers have deemed him unfit for their rotation at the moment.

Colby Lewis delivered a forgettable performance in Saturday's Cactus League start against the Mariners, allowing six runs on five hits in only 1 1/3 innings.

Tue Feb 25 201423:26Colby Lewis looks good in intrasquad game
Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux said that Colby Lewis looked like "vintage Colby" during an intrasquad game Tuesday.
"That was Colby Lewis, the guy I had to face before from the Texas Rangers," added J.P. Arencibia. It's silly to get too excited about one inning in an intrasquad game in February, but Lewis will take all the positive mojo he can get given that he hasn't appeared in the majors since July of 2012 due to injuries. If healthy, the 34-year-old right-hander has a decent chance of cracking the Rangers' rotation with Derek Holland (knee) out and Matt Harrison (back) a question mark.

Colby Lewis reported the Rangers spring camp healthy, and is ready to compete for a spot in the Opening Day rotation.
The 34-year-old right-hander missed has been on the shelf since the middle of the 2012 season due to various arm and hip surgeries. With the injury to Derek Holland creating an additional vacancy in the Rangers rotation, Lewis should be a favorite to secure a spot as long as he can make it through the spring without incident.
