Wright caught three passes (on three targets) for 15 yards in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.
Wright gives the Patriots a capable pass-catching option to roll out in two-TE sets, but with plenty of mouths to feed in the team's offense -- including fellow TE Rob Gronkowski -- Wright could be a hit-or-miss option in the coming weeks.

Wright caught four passes (on six targets) for 43 yards in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants.
Acquired in a trade with the Bucs just Tuesday, Wright caught all of his passes Thursday from backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, with starter Tom Brady resting. Still, it was a promising debut for the tight end that suggests he could quickly emerge as a contributor in the New England offense out of the gate. It remains to be seen if he'll be working with fellow TE Rob Gronkowski in Week 1, but when the two are both healthy, the addition of Wright opens the door for the Patriots to run additional two-TE sets.

The Patriots have reportedly traded Logan Mankins to the Buccaneers in exchange for Wright and a draft pick, ESPN Boston reports.
While the Patriots dealing Mankins is an unexpected move, it's understandable that they would be interested in bolstering their tight end depth, with Rob Gronkowski bouncing back from a knee injury and not much upside depth at the position behind him in advance of Tuesday's reported deal. Wright, who caught 54 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns with the Bucs in 2013, provides the Patriots with a legitimate pass-catching option to combine with Gronkowski, who the team hopes will be ready for Week 1. In any case, the addition of Wright opens the door for the team to run more two-tight end sets (when Gronkowski is healthy) and in such a scenario, Wright could carve out some fantasy utility in PPR formats. Moreover, those looking to insure their investments in Gronkowski now have another option to consider for their early-season lineups.

Wright is struggling to duplicate the success he experienced during his rookie season last year, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.
Wright switched from receiver to tight end in 2013 and finished second on the team in receptions (54), receiving yards (571) and touchdowns (five). During the preseason, however, Buccaneer quarterbacks have not connected with him with any consistency. "He hasn't played as well as he should be playing," Tampa coach Lovie Smith said. "He's dropped some balls. He's a big part of what we want to do with the two-receiver, two-tight end set. Tim hasn't blocked as well inside." Wright played only 17 offensive snaps in Saturday's 20-14 preseason loss to the Dolphins. He was targeted twice, catching one pass for five yards.
Sun Aug 17 201402:21Wright could work out of slot for Bucs this season
Wright could work out of the slot for the Bucs this season, ESPN's Pat Yasinkas reports.
It may be that Wright is a better candidate for playing time at slot receiver than he is at tight end, after the Bucs signed TE Brandon Myers and drafted TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the second round of May's draft. Wright is unlikely to beat out either for work as an in-line tight end, but the Bucs lack attractive options at wide receiver behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans. Other slot candidates include Louis Murphy, Chris Owusu, and perhaps Robert Herron.
Tue Jun 10 201416:29Lovie: We have 'big plans' for TE Wright
Coach Lovie Smith says the Bucs have "big plans" for TE Tim Wright in the passing game.
That's despite the fact that the Bucs have added Brandon Myers and second-rounder Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Smith's comments are more an indication that the Bucs have no plans to phase Wright out of the offense altogether. Smith believes Wright can win matchups against linebackers and safeties, which is certainly something he can do as an oversized slot threat (6-foot-4, 220 pounds). Wright is unlikely to have fantasy value this season.

Wed May 21 201408:50Lovie claims Wright is still in the picture
Coach Lovie Smith says Tim Wright is still in the picture at tight end.
Wright, who played for fired Bucs coach Greg Schiano at Rutgers, has seen the depth chart change dramatically since Smith was hired. First Brandon Myers was signed to a $4.25 million contract and then Austin Seferian-Jenkins was selected 38th overall. Wright can create mismatches in the passing game as an oversized (6'4/220) slot receiver, but he projects as a situational player at best.

Sun Mar 9 201414:45Bucs want better run-blocking tight end
Bucs coach Lovie Smith is seeking a better run blocker at tight end.
Catch-first incumbent Tim Wright (6'4/220) is essentially a slot receiver, and is now off scholarship with college coach Greg Schiano out the door. "We need a traditional (tight end) that can block and be a pass catcher also," Smith said. "... Right now, we need to upgrade the tight end position." Wright's 2014 fantasy outlook is shaky at best following Tampa Bay's coaching staff change.

Thu Feb 6 201409:35Bucs might look to upgrade at TE
ESPN Bucs blogger Pat Yasinskas says the Bucs need to upgrade at tight end.
Converted wideout Tim Wright was a pleasant surprise in 2013, finishing with 54 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as an undrafted rookie. But he's a major liability as a blocker and his college coach, Greg Schiano, is gone. New boss Lovie Smith will likely be on the hunt for a more well-rounded tight end, allowing him to leave Wright in a strict passing-down role. He's a sell-high candidate in Dynasty formats.

Sun Dec 29 201321:44Tim Wright catches five balls, TD in finale
Tim Wright caught five passes for 58 yards and one touchdown in Week 17 versus the Saints.
Wright was targeted ten times on the day and secured a one-yard touchdown from Mike Glennon in the second quarter. Wright, an undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, was a nice surprise at the tight end position as an athletic catch-first player. Wright appeared in all 16 games, making eight starts, and caught 54 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns. He'll return as a TE2 with upside in 2014.

Sun Dec 22 201318:32Tim Wright catches four passes for 27 yards
Tim Wright caught four passes for 27 yards in Tampa's Week 16 loss to the Rams.
Wright also got the wind knocked out of him on a massive hit, but missed only a few plays. An undrafted rookie surprise out of Rutgers, Wright enters Week 17 with 49 catches for 513 yards and four scores. Wright will be in the TE1 conversation in 2014.

Sun Dec 15 201317:29Tim Wright goes for 7 catches, TD in defeat
Tim Wright caught seven balls for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' Week 15 loss to San Francisco.
Wright's stats were buoyed by garbage time, as the 49ers jumped out to an early lead and Mike Glennon's 34 attempts were his single-game high since October. Something of a boom-or-bust streaming tight end option, Wright will still be more of a TE2 when the Bucs take on the Rams in Week 16.

Sun Dec 8 201316:49Tim Wright goes for 21 yards, touchdown
Tim Wright caught two balls for 21 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' Week 14 win over the Bills.
Wright saved fantasy streamers' day with a five-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, but otherwise the entire Tampa Bay passing attack was quiet aside from Vincent Jackson in the 27-6 romp. Wright will not be a recommended TE1 Hail Mary when the Buccaneers face the 49ers in Week 15.

Sun Dec 1 201317:54Tim Wright held to two catches in loss
Tim Wright caught two passes for 17 yards in Tampa's Week 13 loss to the Panthers.
Wright drew only three targets just six days after coach Greg Schiano showered praise on his rookie tight end. Wright has some legit pass-catching chops, but is an inconsistent fantasy option in Tampa's run-based offense. He's been held to two or fewer catches in three of his past four games, making him hard to trust for the fantasy playoffs.

Wed Nov 27 201308:21Tim Wright expected to be every-down TE
Tim Wright is expected to be an every-down tight end going forward.
Tom Crabtree, Luke Stocker and Nate Byham are all on injured reserve for the Bucs. It leaves Wright as the only viable option on the roster. He's a poor blocker, but the former college wideout is emerging as the No. 2 option in the passing game. "Timmy Wright is quickly becoming a really tough tight end to cover in this league," coach Greg Schiano said. "He and Mike Glennon have a really good feel for each other." The dynamic Wright will be on the field for every single passing situation going forward, giving him more upside than other borderline TE1s.

Sun Nov 24 201317:32Tim Wright goes for 8 catches, 75 yds in win
Tim Wright caught eight balls for 75 yards in the Bucs' Week 12 win over the Lions.
With the Lions shading heavy coverage in Vincent Jackson's direction, Wright and Tiquan Underwood (3-108-2) delivered productive games in an efficient effort by rookie quarterback Mike Glennon. Shaping up as an inconsistent TE1 option, Wright will be best left on benches in Week 13 against Carolina.

Wed Nov 20 201309:10Tim Wright still playing heavy snaps
Tim Wright played on 33-of-65 snaps (50.7 percent) in Sunday's win over the Falcons.
Wright has fallen off the map of late with a total of two catches for 32 yards on three targets over the last two weeks. But he's remained the primary pass-catching tight end, playing on a healthy 53.0 percent of the snaps. The biggest reason for his disappointing numbers is the Bucs' two-game winning streak. Wright does most of his damage in garbage time, something the TE2 could see plenty of in Week 12. The Lions have been installed as 9.5 point favorites over the Bucs.

Tue Nov 12 201300:47Tim Wright catches lone target vs. Dolphins
Tim Wright caught one pass for 19 yards in Week 10 versus the Dolphins.
Wright was targeted just the one time. It came with 6:38 left in the third quarter and picked up a first down on second-and-19. Wright had an enticing matchup on paper, but it didn't translate to the field. The Bucs were gashing the Dolphins on the ground and stuck with what was working. Wright is more TE2 than TE1, but he's a red-zone option most weeks. The Falcons are up next. Wright caught two passes for 15 yards against Atlanta in Week 7.

Sun Nov 3 201319:42Tim Wright goes for 58 yards, touchdown
Tim Wright caught four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' Week 9 loss to Seattle.
The Seahawks' shutdown perimeter coverage kept Vincent Jackson (2-11) and Tiquan Underwood (2-29) under wraps, so Wright stepped forward as the Bucs' best passing-game option. Wright moves well at 6-foot-3, 220, even if he isn't built up like a classic tight end. He's on the back-end TE1 fantasy radar. The Bucs will host the Dolphins on Monday Night Football in Week 10.

Fri Oct 25 201301:18Bucs TE Wright manages late touchdown
Tim Wright caught five passes for 48 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Panthers.
Wright was able to bounce back after being held to two catches for 15 yards in Week 7. He was a non-factor in the first half, but was able to score a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Wright has emerged a legit TE2 since Mike Glennon took over as quarterback. He has 19 catches for 195 yards over his last four games.
