Tue Jul 20 201016:15Guillen won't be used at third base
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that Carlos Guillen will not be used at third base after the injury to Brandon Inge.
He was used primarily at third base in 2008, but Leyland was pretty adamant that Guillen will remain his second baseman. It's not known who will fill the void at the hot corner, but the Tigers are giving Scott Sizemore an audition by starting him at third base with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Sat Jun 12 201023:01Guillen hits walkoff dinger in win over Bucs
Carlos Guillen hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday to lift the Tigers past the Pirates 4-3.
Guillen might not be the greatest second baseman the league has ever known, but he's providing offense for Detroit where it has been absent for a while. Through 116 at-bats he has a .293 batting average, an 837 OPS and 17 RBI. He most definitely has fantasy value.
Tue Jun 8 201023:25Guillen collects three hits and a HR in win
Carlos Guillen went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-2 victory over the White Sox.
Guillen is moving in on second base eligibility in all formats and should be a good value at that position, as long as he can stay healthy. His solo homer in the seventh was part of a six-run inning that gave Detroit the lead for good.

Carlos Guillen returned to action on Saturday June 5.
Fri Jun 4 201020:51Guillen out of lineup with sore toe
Carlos Guillen is out of the starting lineup on Friday due to a sore left toe.
"He's available to pinch-hit if we need it," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland. "If he happened to favor [his toe] and pop his hamstring, I'd feel stupid. So I don't want to do that. I'm assuming he will be ready [Saturday], but I can't swear to that." Ryan Raburn is playing second base in his place on Friday.

Thu Jun 3 201016:26Carlos Guillen lifted with big toe contusion
Carlos Guillen left Thursday's game with a big toe contusion.
X-rays on the toe were negative, so he's being called "day-to-day." Ramon Santiago replaced him at second base and could start on Friday.

Fri May 28 201014:46Tigers activate Guillen from DL
Tigers activated second baseman Carlos Guillen from the 15-day disabled list.
Well, he'll be a second baseman now, even though he hasn't played that position in the majors since starting two games there in 1999. What he probably won't be is a No. 5 hitter, as Brennan Boesch has taken possession of that spot in the lineup in Guillen's absence.
Wed May 26 201008:56Guillen hits three doubles in rehab game
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) was 3-for-5 with three doubles and two runs scored on Tuesday in the fourth game of a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo.
Guillen is 5-for-14 (.357) with one home run and two RBI during his time with Triple-A Toledo. That he is feeling fine physically is one thing, but remember that he is also making the switch to second base, so he might need a couple more days.

Mon May 24 201010:17Carlos Guillen hits a home run in rehab stint
Carlos Guillen hit a two-run home run Sunday in his second game of a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo.
It's the only hit Guillen has in six at-bats, although he's also drawn a walk. He will face Stephen Strasburg on Monday. The Tigers return home from a road trip on Friday, which is a decent guess for Guillen's return to the big leagues if everything goes well.
Tue May 18 201013:06Guillen aiming to play at Toldeo on Saturday
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) is aiming to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Toledo.
Guillen will run the bases Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, then begin playing in games once Saturday hits. He's likely to require three or four rehab appearances in order to get his timing right. The 34-year-old will play second base once he arrives back in Detroit.

Mon May 17 201023:57Guillen (hamstring) to start rehab this week
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) is expected to join Triple-A Toledo to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Guillen could join the Mud Hens as soon as Thursday. Guillen is expected to play second base once he returns to the big club, but Leyland said the presence of the recently-demoted Scott Sizemore means Guillen won't play there everyday during his time at Triple-A. Guillen expects to be activated from the disabled list once he gets his timing back at the plate.

Sun May 16 201022:35Guillen could begin rehab stint next week
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) could begin a rehab assignment next week.
Once he returns to the Tigers, which could be within the next 10 days, he will be the team's starting second baseman. Detroit optioned struggling rookie Scott Sizemore to Triple-A on Saturday, opening the gap. Guillen, a former shortstop, should have enough range to at least be passable at the position.

Sun May 16 201000:31Carlos Guillen to start at second for Tigers
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) will start at second base for the Tigers once he returns from the disabled list.
Detroit optioned struggling rookie Scott Sizemore to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday and brought up infielder Danny Worth to fill in the gaps. Guillen is a former shortstop and should have enough range left in the tank to handle the second base position. He's about 10 days from returning to the bigs.

Wed May 12 201019:47Guillen runs, does agility drills Wednesday
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) ran and went through several agility drills Wednesday at Comerica Park.
Guillen isn't running at full speed just yet and still isn't able to take batting practice. He'll have to do both of those before the Tigers allow him to begin a minor league rehab assignment, so he's unlikely to return in the next two weeks. The very end of May sounds about right.

Mon May 10 201015:04Guillen to resume baseball activities Monday
Carlos Guillen, on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, is expected to resume full baseball activities Monday.
Guillen has been swinging off a tee since Friday without trouble, but the real test of his injured left hamstring will be running the bases and making lateral movements. Once he's able to perform those actions, a rehab assignment will be less than a week away. He's in line for a late-May return.

Sat May 8 201009:35Guillen feels good after swinging bat
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) took a few swings before Friday's game and told the Detroit Free Press that he felt fine afterwards.
Guillen is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday, but there's simply no chance of that happening. The Tigers will be ready for him when he's healthy, but having the DH spot open has allowed them to keep Magglio Ordonez in their order despite his injuries, so Guillen's absence hasn't been a total loss for Detroit.

Sat May 1 201021:28Guillen (hammy) won't be ready when eligible
Carlos Guillen (hamstring) is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 8, but is still unable to swing a bat.
In other words, he's not going to be ready. Guillen was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 23 with a strained left hamstring and has been limited to riding a stationary bicycle and light exercises since. He's hoping to take some significant steps in the upcoming week.
