RHP Mike Pelfrey tied his career high with six walks while allowing just one run on five hits with three strikeouts over six innings. Pelfrey saved an overworked bullpen by working six complete, his first quality start since Aug. 12, 2015 against the Rangers. He last walked six batters on Aug. 25, 2013 at Cleveland.

RHP Mike Pelfrey didn't have much on the ball Saturday, taking his first loss of the season in his first game for Detroit. The free agent signee from Minnesota gave up eight hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings. "I do think the cold weather had an effect (on Pelfrey)," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said, "especially with his split-finger."

RHP Mike Pelfrey has agreed to terms on a two-year, $16 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.

Pelfrey (6-11) struggled on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks across just 1.2 innings in a blowout loss to the Indians.

It just wasn't there for Pelfrey tonight after one of his best starts of the season last Friday. The righty is simply too inconsistent, as his 1.48 WHIP and 4.26 ERA don't quite match his peripherals. With a low-strikeout rate and high BABIP, a regression seems very likely next season. It remains to be seen if he'll even crack the rotation next year, but his 4.26 ERA will bode well in negotiations for one of those spots.

Pelfrey looked good allowing just one run on six hits, he did not walk a batter, and struck out seven over five innings, but was left with a no-decision against Detroit on Friday night.

The model of inconsistency this season, Pelfrey has been on a roller coaster. This one was near the top of the run, but his 4.09 ERA underscores the number of outings he has struggled in. He clearly has the ability to put together some quality innings, but he needs to be more reliable if he is to ever be a fantasy asset.

Pelfrey(6-10) gave up nine hits and four earned runs in six-plus innings in a 5-2 loss to the Angels on Saturday. He also struck out a batter.

Pelfrey has now surrendered 12 earned runs in 15.1 September innings for a robust 7.04 ERA. The veteran right-hander also gave up a homer for the third consecutive start after not allowing a ball to leave the park in seven straight appearances between July 28 and Aug. 29. Pelfrey has had an up-and-down year, twice surrendering eight earned runs in a start and yielding seven in another, but also holding opposing batters to only one in nine other trips to the mound. His inconsistencies aside, Pelfrey figures to be counted on for two more starts in the final critical stretch of the Twins' playoff push.

Pelfrey will start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Angels, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

As expected, Pelfrey will move back to Saturday after Friday's game was rained out, but the Twins will flip-flop Pelfrey and Kyle Gibson and start Gibson in Game 1.

Pelfrey will not make his scheduled start Friday, as the game was postponed due to rain.

Chances are, Pelfrey will just move back to start one game of Saturday's twin bill.

Pelfrey (6-9) went 5.1 innings Wednesday, giving up one earned run on five hits while walking and striking out a batter apiece in a 3-2 win over the Royals.

Wednesday's no-decision was a step in the right direction for Pelfrey, as the right-hander allowed fewer than three earned runs for the first time since Aug. 18. Entering his start with a gaudy 5.59 ERA on the road, Pelfrey didn't allow a runner to reach scoring position until the 4th inning. Pelfrey's rotation spot seems to be secure, though his abysmal K/9 and WHIP eliminate him from relevance in most leagues.

Pelfrey struggling isn't a major surprise. How he struggled is. After giving up just seven home runs all season, he served up two on Friday. Pelfrey has maintained a so-so ERA, poor WHIP and, despite Friday's comparatively solid strikeout total, a 4.66 K/9 rate on the season. If you need pitching help for the playoff push, look elsewhere.

Pelfrey (6-8) surrendered seven hits, four earned runs and two walks over 3.2 innings in a 4-1 loss to the Astros on Saturday. He struck out two.

Pelfrey concluded a roller-coaster August that featured two starts in which he failed to get out of the fourth inning, and another in which he was chased before completing the fifth. Despite these red flags, Pelfrey somehow managed to escape the month with only one loss and without giving up a single gopher ball. The veteran right-hander continues to turn in periodic quality starts for the Twins and has posted a respectable 3.85 ERA in 2015, but his overall inconsistency has kept owners guessing all season long.

Pelfrey lasted just 4.2 innings against the Orioles on Sunday, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three.

He avoided the loss, as the Twins rallied to win in 12, but Pelfrey was unable to complete five innings despite throwing 93 pitches. Pelfrey hasn't allowed more than four runs in a start since the calendar turned to July, but he has just three quality starts over that span, and his K/9 remains under five.

Pelfrey allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings, but received no decision Tuesday against the Yankees.

Pelfrey was unlucky, as he pitched well enough to win, holding the Yankees in check before they erupted for seven runs against the Minnesota bullpen. He's been very reliable lately, as this was the fifth time in his last six starts that he held the opponent to two or fewer runs. His next start will be Sunday at Baltimore.

Pelfrey (6-7) pitched seven solid innings, giving up only one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four in Wednesday's 11-1 rout of the Rangers.

Pelfrey had gone 0-5 with a 6.22 ERA in his last 10 starts, but he was sharp Wednesday, scattering four hits and one walk in seven innings. He benefited from an early cushion, as the Twins scored 11 runs in the first five innings. His next scheduled start will be Monday at the Yankees.

Pelfrey was decimated, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking out two while retiring just 11 hitters, but escaped with a no-decision as the Twins defeated the Indians 10-9 Friday night.

He maintains a modest 4.06 ERA, but he has been battered in several starts since late June when his ERA sat at a very respectable 2.97 on the season. He is simply too hittable (140 hits in 122 innings) and misses very bats (just 58 strikeouts) to be considered even a marginally reliable starter in fantasy leagues.

Pelfrey took a no decision Tuesday as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

Luckily for Pelfrey, Ryan O'Rourke managed to strand a pair of Pirates runners in the sixth inning. Still, this was one of Pelfrey's best start over the past six weeks. In that eight start span, Pelfrey has a 6.44 ERA, 17 strikeouts, 14 walks and a whopping 63 hits allowed in 43.1 innings. The Twins may look to replace him in the rotation at the trade deadline.

Pelfrey (5-7) allowed four runs -- two earned -- on nine hits while striking out one and walking one in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.

Pelfrey suffered his fifth consecutive loss, extending a seven-start winless skid since June 7. Over that span, he's given up 29 runs in 38 innings, good for a 6.87 ERA. He'll look to break out of his slump when he next takes the mound Tuesday against the Pirates.

Pelfrey (5-6) gave up four runs and eight hits in 7.2 innings against the Tigers on Thursday. He struck out four and walked none in the loss.

In his last six starts, Pelfrey is 0-4 and has given up 27 runs in 32 innings. He's seen his ERA balloon from 2.28 to 4.00, and if he continues to struggle, he might lose his rotation spot.

Pelfrey was staked to a 3-0 lead but fell apart in the fifth inning before he departed without recording an out. Pelfrey started strong this season (2.28 ERA in his first 11 starts), but it looks like his lack of strikeouts (4.4 K/9) is finally catching up with him. Pelfrey has a 8.51 ERA and a 11:13 K:BB ratio in 24.1 innings over his last five starts. Pelfrey will keep his spot in the rotation when Ervin Santana returns as Trevor May will move to the bullpen. However, Pelfrey could be out of the rotation before too long if he doesn't turn his season around.

Pelfrey fell to 5-5 after allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks in two innings Monday against Cincinnati.

Pelfrey didn't give up a home run but was giving up stinging contact all over the field, including a pair of doubles. Pelfrey has now failed to get through five innings in three of his past nine starts and has a 4.58 ERA with 26 strikeouts against 16 walks in that stretch. Pelfrey has given up at least eight hits in five of his past nine starts and is looking more like the pitcher who went 5-16 with a 5.56 ERA in his first two seasons as a Twin.
