Sun Feb 6 201108:21Report: Red Sox interested in Aceves
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that the Red Sox are interested in free agent Alfredo Aceves.
Aceves made only 10 appearances this past season due to a back problem and then complicated matters when he broke his clavicle in a bicycle accident over the winter, which led to him getting non-tendered. He's expected to be ready to pitch at some point during spring training, though, and would make for a nice buy-low candidate. The righty boasts a 3.21 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 87/30 K/BB ratio over 126 career innings.

Wed Jan 26 201121:48Aceves fine, expected to be good by March
Contrary to an earlier report, free agent Alfredo Aceves (clavicle) has not experienced a setback and is expected to be ready to pitch by March.
Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York said in a chat with readers Wednesday that Aceves was going to miss most, if not all, of the 2011 season. But that information was not correct in the slightest. Aceves should be recovered from his back injury and broken clavicle (collarbone) shortly after the start of spring training. He remains an unsigned free agent to this point.

Alfredo Aceves (back) is not expected to pitch in 2011.
And now we know why the Yankees decided to non-tender the righty. Aceves was plagued by a back injury throughout the 2011 season and made it worse when he got into a bicycle accident this winter. He's going to sit out for at least the first several months of this upcoming season, and probably longer.

Aceves was non-tendered by the Yankees earlier this month after fracturing his left clavicle in a bicycle accident. He probably won't be fully healthy by Opening Day, but the 28-year-old did rattled off a 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 12 innings of work this past season in New York.

Mon Jul 5 201019:35Aceves (back) headed to NY after setback
Alfredo Aceves (back) is headed to New York for further evaluation after suffering another setback during a bullpen session Monday.
Not a good sign. The Yankees hoped to get Aceves back shortly after the All-Star break, but now his status is TBA. With this sort of uncertainty and the struggles of Joba Chamberlain and Chan Ho Park, look for the Bombers to be in the market for a right-handed reliever around the trade deadline.

Alfredo Aceves (back) threw off a half-mound on Saturday as part of his return from his lingering back injury.
It's not quite a full bullpen session, but it's all heading in the right direction for Aceves, and not a moment too soon, considering the state of the Yankees' bullpen. He's still a ways from returning, but he'll surely be welcomed back with open arms when he's ready to go.
