Heisey was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Thursday.

He was one of four players DFA'd following the Dodgers' three-team deal with Miami and Atlanta. Heisey struggled with the big club this season (4-for-26), but he hit 14 homers with a .355 OBP in 63 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Even at 30, there's a chance he could be plucked off waivers as a flier by a rebuilding club.

Heisey was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, David Vassegh of 570 AM LA Sports reports.

Given the crowded Dodgers outfield, it's not a big surprise that Heisey will return to the minors. The veteran outfielder went just 4-for-26 over 17 games with the Dodgers, and will now provide organizational depth at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

According to Vassegh, Scott Van Slyke (undisclosed) is likely headed for the disabled list, creating a need for another outfielder on the roster. Heisey has a .234/.354/.574 slash line for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, and while he possesses a decent combination of power and speed, he doesn't figure to see regular at-bats.

Heisey was caught up in a numbers game in the Dodgers' crowded outfield, but did himself no favors with an awful spring.

Heisey is batting just .105 in 47 at-bats this spring and likely will open in Triple-A.

Heisey agreed to a one-year, $2.16 million contract with the Dodgers on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Ken Gurnick of the Dodgers' official site reports.

Heisey was traded from the Reds to the Dodgers in early December after a disappointing 2013 season in which he hit .222/.265/.378 with eight home runs and 22 RBI. He should provid esome depth in the outfield for the Dodgers in 2015, but may have to battle for a roster spot out of training camp.

Right-handed pitcher Matt Magill will go to Cincinnati in the deal, per Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Heisey wore out his welcome with the Reds by batting just .222/.265/.378 in 119 games (299 PA) last season. While this move just seems to further crowd the Dodgers' outfield situation, it is likely a precursor to other moves, though it still seems unlikely Heisey will serve as anything more than a reserve with his new club.

Heisey is a potential non-tender candidate by the Reds before Tuesday's deadline, MLB.com reports.

Heisey is coming off a miserable season, hitting just .222/.265/.378 in a year when the Reds desperately needed help in left field. He's arbitration-eligible, which makes him a non-tender candidate.

Heisey has continued to regress in 2014 after a down year in 2013, hitting just .222/.272/.356 in spot duty over 225 at-bats. Now 29 years old, we're no longer looking for Heisey to fulfill any untapped potential.
