Sat Jun 23 201201:39Will Venable scores three runs in Padres' win
Will Venable went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and three runs scored Friday in the Padres' 9-5 win over the Mariners.
The slumping Venable hadn't scored a run since June 10 before touching home plate three times tonight. Still, he's having a nice season. He already has 16 doubles in 209 at-bats, surpassing his previous career high of 14. The one real disappointment is that he's just 7-for-13 stealing bases after going 26-for-29 last year.

Sun Jun 10 201218:24Venable has nice day in loss
Will Venable went 3-for-5 with a home run and double in Sunday's loss to the Brewers.
After sitting out six days with an oblique injury, Venable has now doubled in back-to-back games since returning to the lineup on Saturday. Batting .277/.346/.480 with seven steals in 56 games, he's proven to be a worthy NL-only league own this season.

Fri Jun 8 201210:31Will Venable resumes baseball activity
Will Venable (oblique) resumed baseball-related activities Thursday.
He wasn't in Thursday's lineup, but it sounds like Venable should be ready this weekend. The 29-year-old suffered an oblique strain Sunday, but the Padres are confident a stint on the DL won't be needed.

Tue Jun 5 201218:07Venable (oblique) will not need DL stint
Will Venable (oblique) is not expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Venable strained his right oblique on Sunday and isn't in the starting lineup on Tuesday, but it doesn't sound like he'll require an extended absence. The Padres will likely monitor him on a daily basis for now.

Mon Jun 4 201210:05Venable (oblique) to receive exam/treatment
Will Venable (oblique) is expected to be reevaluated on Monday.
No determination has been made on whether Venable will be placed on the disabled list. "We will see how it sets up," manager Bud Black said. "Some [oblique strains] are nasty, some are not. Some go away quickly." If Venable were to miss significant time, Chris Denorfia would see regular at-bats in right field.

Sun Jun 3 201222:40Will Venable leaves with oblique strain

Sun May 20 201221:21Padres beat Angels in 13 innings
Will Venable singled and left fielder Howie Kendrick made a game-ending error as the Padres beat the Angels 3-2 in 13 innings on Sunday.
Pitcher Clayton Richard singled as a pinch-hitter in the inning and came around to score after Kendrick, typically a second baseman, booted Venable's single. Kendrick was playing left field, as he occasionally did last year, after both Vernon Wells and Ryan Langerhans were injured in the game.

Sat May 12 201222:09Venable has two hits, RBI in Padres win
Will Venable went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Saturday, helping to lead the Padres to a 2-1 victory over Roy Halladay and the Phillies.
Venable should continue to see the majority of starts in right field against right-handed pitching, and is worth owning in NL-only fantasy leagues for his tremendous speed and underrated power potential.

Wed May 9 201201:44Will Venable triples, doubles
Padres leadoff man Will Venable tripled and doubled Tuesday versus the Rockies.
Venable entered with a poor .236/.306/.315 line and just two RBI in 89 at-bats this season. Since he's a quality defensive outfielder, he's deserving of his place in the starting lineup against right-handers. Still, he's far from ideal as a leadoff man.

Thu Apr 5 201203:59Venable steals ninth base
Will Venable went 1-for-2 with two RBI in the Padres' 7-6 setback to the Royals on Wednesday.
The speedster also stole his ninth base, and has been caught only twice all spring. He finishes with a .349 batting average. With Mark Kotsay on the 15-day DL, Venable will get more opportunities to make noise and cement his role during the season's first two weeks.

Mon Mar 26 201212:34Pads to Braves: Venable not available
The Braves approached the Padres about Will Venable's availability but were told he's not available.
It comes as no surprise that a team would try to pry the underrated Venable from San Diego, or that the Friars would rebuff them. The 29-year-old batted .246/.310/.395 with nine homers, 44 RBI, 26 stolen bases and a .704 OPS over 411 plate appearances last season. If this is the year Venable gets 450 at-bats for the first time, he'll likely steal over 30 bases with double digit home runs. We don't like to read into spring training numbers, but it's worth noting that Venable has posted a .948 OPS and stolen six bases in six attempts.

Wed Mar 21 201202:20Will Venable goes 3-for-4 in win
Will Venable went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Tuesday against the Rockies.
It sounds like the Padres plan to hit Orlando Hudson second and Venable seventh most days, but that could change at a moment's notice. If this is the year Venable gets 450 at-bats for the first time, he'll probably steal 30 bases. He won't do a whole lot else to help fantasy leaguers, but he won't need to.

Padres and OF Will Venable avoided arbitration by agreeing one a one-year contract.
Terms aren't yet available. Venable was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter as a Super Two player. The 29-year-old batted .246/.310/.395 with nine homers, 44 RBI, 26 stolen bases and a .704 OPS over 411 plate appearances last season. He'll be a part-time player for the Padres in 2012.

Will Venable's launched his first career grand slam in Wednesday's season finale against the Cubs.
Quite a finish for Venable, who ends the year hitting .246/.310/.395. He likely will continue being a part-time contributor for the Padres next season.

Venable's eighth home run of the season was his third of the month. Hitting .249/.310/.392 in 401 plate appearances this season, Venable has made a solid case to return as San Diego's fourth outfielder in 2012.

Will Venable won't play before Friday due to a back injury.
He is apparently having issues in a different spot where he had back spasms earlier this season. The 28-year-old outfielder is batting .250/.313/.389 with seven homers, 38 RBI, 26 stolen bases and a .702 OPS over 391 plate appearances in 2011.
