Tue Jul 31 2012 | 01:24 | Jays get Delabar from Mariners for Thames |
Blue Jays acquired RHP Steve Delabar from the Mariners for OF Eric Thames. |
Delabar has been far more effective in the bigs than the average fan probably realizes. Over 40 appearances the past two seasons, he has a 3.92 ERA with Seattle. He doesn't come without warts, of course, but Toronto didn't part with a lot to get him. The 29-year-old Delabar is a great story, having pitched in independent league ball from 2008-09. He missed the 2010 season due to an elbow injury and battled back to the majors from there. He'll function in middle relief north of the border. |

Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Steve Delabar from Triple-A Tacoma. |
We usually have a few good stories among September call-ups and Delabar is certainly one of them. The 28-year-old right-hander pitched in independent league ball from 2008-09 and missed the 2010 season due to an elbow injury. He posted a 2.25 ERA and 68/40 K/BB ratio over 56 innings this season between High-A High Desert, Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma. He should pitch in a middle relief role in September. |
