Wed Dec 11 201318:28Ryan: Arcia can hit left-handed pitching
When asked if Oswaldo Arcia will need protection against tough left-handed pitchers, Twins general manager Terry Ryan said: "He can hit lefties."
As a rookie, Arcia's OPS against southpaws (.254/.274/.386) was more than 100 points less than it was against right-handed pitching (.249/.318/.451). Arcia, of course, accumulated those numbers in his first taste of the big leagues as a 22-year-old. He should never be expected to crush left-handed pitching, but Arcia's bat is plenty promising enough to expect that he won't need a platoon partner for the foreseeable future.
