Young will be weighed six different times and can earn a $100,000 payout for each weigh-in. "I've been on a strict diet," the new Phillies outfielder said Wednesday. "You can get carried away on clubhouse food and late night room service. Some ice cream and good luck cakes. But when you go back to the outfield, you have got to eat lighter."

Young is a really poor defensive outfielder, so it's odd that the Phillies aren't sticking him in left. This is also another shot to the development of Domonic Brown, who could struggle to find regular playing time.

He'd be a better fit on an American League team where he could continue to DH, but it's a reasonable gamble given the modest price tag. Young figures to play left field at least part of the time, which likely means less at-bats for Domonic Brown.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees have "no interest" in free agent Delmon Young.

The Yankees are looking to add a right-handed hitter with some pop, but Young is a bad defensive outfielder and there are too many other players on the New York roster who require regular appearances at DH. Young drew some interest earlier this offseason from the Mariners but has otherwise struggled to attract a healthy market.

Delmon Young pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated harrassment in connection to his April arrest in New York.

Young was charged with a hate crime in April after shouting an anti-Semitic slur and pushing a man outside of his hotel. He will get 10 days of community service and must attend a program at the Museum of Tolerance in New York.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Tuesday that the club will not attempt to re-sign Delmon Young.

The Tigers see Young as a DH, so he would be superflouos with Victor Martinez coming back. Young batted .267/.296/.411 with 18 home runs, 74 RBI and a .707 OPS this year and enjoyed an excellent postseason. The 27-year-old will likely be on the lookout for a multi-year deal. Dombrowski also doesn't expect to pursue Jose Valverde, but has interest in retaining Anibal Sanchez.

Young looked awful defensively in Game 1, but his bat is a major part of the Tigers' offensive attack. He will return to the DH spot when the series shifts to Detroit.
