Sat Dec 18 201008:44Gregg wants chance to be a closer
Kevin Gregg's agent, Danny Horwits, said the chance to be a close might be the deal breaker in where his client chooses to sign.
"He has opportunities to both be a setup man and a closer," Horwits said. "The last four years, he's averaged 30-plus saves. As he says, closing is in his blood and that's what he likes to do. I would say having that opportunity is very important." Gregg's best opportunity probably is with the Orioles, who have reportedly offered him a two-year deal within the $8-10 million range. He might have to compete for the job with Koji Uehara, but given how much more money Gregg would make, he'd likely enter camp as the favorite.

Fri Dec 17 201014:17Orioles still in the mix for Kevin Gregg
Kevin Gregg's agent told the Baltimore Sun Friday that the Orioles remain heavily involved in the running for his client.
Gregg is probably seeking something similar to the two-year, $12 million contract that Bobby Jenks got from the Red Sox, or maybe even the three-year, $15 million contract that Scott Downs scored from the Angels. The O's shouldn't give him that kind of money, but they might anyway. Gregg's agent told the Baltimore Sun that multiple teams are interested.

Tue Dec 14 201015:56O's have not offered $12M to Kevin Gregg
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun says that the Orioles have not made a two-year, $12 million offer to free agent Kevin Gregg.
Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston reported a short time ago that Gregg and the O's were close to agreement on a two-year, $12 million deal. But Connolly is rarely wrong on Orioles matters and seems to be confident in his source. Gregg still has an $8-$10 million proposal on the table from Baltimore.

Fri Dec 10 201012:17O's have two-year offer out to Kevin Gregg
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have made a two-year offer to free agent Kevin Gregg worth between $8-$10 million.
The O's might also be offering Gregg a chance to close, which could entice him to accept over proposals from other interested teams. The 32-year-old posted a 3.51 ERA and 37 saves in 43 chances this past season. He is a Type B free agent and won't cost Baltimore a draft pick. If Gregg is indeed signed, Koji Uehara will likely begin the 2011 season in a setup role.

Mon Dec 6 201017:55Orioles have interest in Kevin Gregg
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Orioles are interested in Kevin Gregg.
The O's just traded David Hernandez as part of the Mark Reynolds deal and Koji Uehara remains unsigned, so they are likely to secure at least one reliever in free agency. Gregg, 32, posted a 3.51 ERA and 37 saves in 43 chances this past season and will look to fetch a multi-year contract this winter. In addition to the Orioles and the Blue Jays, it has been reported that the Angels and Rays also have interest.

Wed Dec 1 201001:02Kevin Gregg declines Jays' arbitration offer
Kevin Gregg declined arbitration from the Blue Jays.
As expected. Gregg has already been contacted by the Angels, Orioles and Rays, and is likely to land a decent contract. It might even be of the multi-year variety. He had a 3.51 ERA and 37 saves this past season.

Mon Nov 29 201019:43Gregg drawing interest, declining arbitration
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Kevin Gregg will turn down the Blue Jays' arbitration offer.
Not a huge surprise as he should have plenty of suitors in free agency. With that in mind, Heyman writes that the Angels, Orioles, Rays and the Blue Jays, among others, have all expressed interest in the 32-year-old right-hander. Gregg posted a 3.51 ERA, 37 saves and a 58/30 K/BB ratio over 59 innings this past season.

Wed Nov 24 201009:29Gregg offered arbitration by Blue Jays
Kevin Gregg was offered arbitration by the Blue Jays.
Gregg, a Type B free agent, will net the Blue Jays a supplemental round draft pick if he signs with another club this offseason. Toronto has expressed an interest in bringing him back despite declining his $5.25 million option for 2011. He had a 3.51 ERA in 59 innings this past season.

Sat Nov 6 201010:18Jays interested in retaining Gregg
Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos said Friday his team could still bring back Kevin Gregg despite declining his option.
"Like I explained to Kevin last night, we're not prepared to lock him in right now," Anthopoulos said. "But we may very well come back to him in two weeks or three weeks from now, after we've had a chance to continue to work through the off-season and the market." Gregg has said he's "very open" to returning to Toronto.

Sat Nov 6 201009:26Rockies could go after Gregg
The Rockies could pursue free agent Kevin Gregg.
The Rockies are looking for help at the back end of their bullpen, but Gregg seems like a bad fit in Denver since he can often be homer-prone. Colorado also hasn't closed the door on bringing Octavio Dotel back on a lesser contract after they declined his option.

Thu Nov 4 201020:58Blue Jays decline Kevin Gregg's options
Blue Jays declined RHP Kevin Gregg's $5.25 million option for 2011 and his $9.5 million option for 2012.
It was a weird contract when they signed it, but the Blue Jays sure do look smart now. Gregg had a pedestrian 3.51 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 59 innings for Toronto this season, saving 37 games in 43 chances. Those aren't the worst numbers, but Gregg is not a reliever deserving of big money.

Fri Aug 27 201023:01Gregg blows his fifth save of the year
Kevin Gregg blew his fifth save of the season on Friday night against the Tigers.
It was trouble from the start, as Austin Jackson set the table with a leadoff triple to begin the top of the ninth. Gregg managed to strike out Ryan Raburn for the first out of the inning, but Johnny Damon singled to even the score at 2-2. Considering that Gregg has only allowed two runs this month and successfully converted each of his last eight save chances dating back to late-July, we shouldn't get too bent out of shape about this.
Fri Jul 23 201020:19Rockies have interest in Kevin Gregg
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Rockies have interest in Kevin Gregg.
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reported the same thing Thursday, but added that the Rockies also have an eye on left-hander Scott Downs. They won't be alone in their interest.

Thu Jul 22 201013:34Rockies eyeing relief help
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have been eyeing the Blue Jays in an effort to acquire relief help.
Renck mentions Kevin Gregg, Scott Downs and former Blue Jays' reliever Brandon League. That could have been a slip on Renck's part, but the Mariners have apparently made League available, as well, for the right price.

Tue Jul 20 201001:22Jays' Gregg takes loss, blown save
Kevin Gregg took a blown save and a loss after giving up two runs in the 10th inning Monday against the Royals.
Gregg is still a respectable 21-for-25 in save chances, but he's been a well below average reliever since the end of April. The Jays should be very open to moving him if anyone wants to give up a quality prospect.
Sat Jul 17 201022:58Gregg not in danger of losing closer role
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said Saturday that Kevin Gregg is not in danger of losing the ninth-inning role.
Gregg was pulled in the ninth inning of Saturday's game against the Orioles and Shawn Camp earned his first save of the season. But Gaston gave him a vote of confidence after the victory and all should be well.

Mon Jul 12 201008:43Report: Jays have made Kevin Gregg available
Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports that the Blue Jays have made reliever Kevin Gregg available to interested teams.
Gregg was awarded the Jays' ninth-inning gig after Jason Frasor blew too many saves to open the 2010 season. The right-handed Gregg has converted 20 of 23 save chances with a 3.67 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and a 37/18 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings. He's owed about $1.75 million for the rest of this season.

Sat Jun 5 201017:29Gregg tosses scoreless ninth vs. Yanks
Kevin Gregg tossed a scoreless ninth inning in an extra-inning victory over the Yankees on Saturday afternoon.
It was Gregg's first appearance since Tuesday's blowup against the Rays. He allowed one hit and walked one, but collected three strikeouts to keep the Bombers at bay. There's no reason to believe he won't be presented with the next save opportunity.
Wed Jun 2 201013:22Gregg to get a few days off
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said that Kevin Gregg will likely get a few days off.
Gregg threw 42 pitches during Tuesday's epic meltdown and has worked in four out of the last five days. Gaston hasn't given up on Gregg yet, but speculative owners should stash Jason Frasor or Scott Downs if they are available.
