Tue Jun 1 201022:36Hot seat? Gregg walks 5 in massive meltdown
Kevin Gregg imploded in Tuesday's loss to the Rays, allowing four unearned runs on one hit and five walks to blow his third save of the season and take his second loss.
Yikes. And the worst part is Gregg's unearned runs were unearned because he committed the throwing error with B.J. Upton on base. His meltdown came immediately thereafter. With the bases loaded and two outs, nursing a 5-3 lead, Gregg walked Ben Zobrist to bring in a run. Sean Rodriguez' double brought in three more runs. But Gregg wasn't finished yet, throwing a wild pitch and walking the next batter before getting yanked. This was the sort of huge implosion needed to potentially jar him for the closer's role, so perhaps it's time to snatch Jason Frasor and Scott Downs if you have the roster room for speculative purposes. Gregg, you'll recall, has been struggling for some time and posted a 5.56 ERA in 12 appearances last month.
Wed May 12 201016:16Jays' Gregg picks up a shaky save
Kevin Gregg recorded his 10th save despite giving up two runs in the ninth Wednesday against the Red Sox.
He was aided by home-plate umpire Dale Scott, who rang up David Ortiz for the second out of the ninth on a pitch that was 10-12 inches off the plate. Gregg's job is safe, but he has looked a little more vulnerable lately. Not that there was ever any chance of him finishing with a sub-1.00 ERA this season.
Sat May 8 201000:13Gregg blows save
Kevin Gregg blew his first save of the season when he gave up a home run to A.J. Pierzynski to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night.
After Pierzynski's jack tied the game, Gregg settled down and got out of the inning. He's still sporting a 1.20 ERA and obviously remains the Jays' closer.
Fri May 7 201000:01Jays' Gregg notches eighth save
Kevin Gregg struck out two in another scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save Thursday against the White Sox.
When Gregg was named the Jays' closer barely a week into the season, it looked like the job might change hands several times this year. Gregg, though, has been awesome to date. He's converted every save chances he's been handed, and he's allowed just eight hits while striking out 18 in 14 innings.
Wed Apr 14 201016:55Kevin Gregg takes over as closer in Toronto
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston announced Wednesday that Kevin Gregg will serve as the team's closer "until further notice."
Jason Frasor has blown two saves in five chances since being named the Jays' closer on Opening Day and currently owns a 6.34 ERA and 2.54 WHIP. Gregg, meanwhile, has a 0.23 WHIP, a 0.00 ERA and a 6/0 K/BB ratio in four appearances. He needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Tue Apr 13 201021:32Gregg stellar again, earns third save of year
Kevin Gregg collected two strikeouts during a flawless ninth inning Tuesday against the White Sox to earn his third save of the season.
Jason Frasor owners beware. Gregg now owns a 0.00 ERA, 0.23 WHIP and a 6/0 K/BB ratio in four appearances this season. That's a whole lot of zeros, and may lead the right-hander to full-time closer duties sooner than later. He should be owned or picked up in all fantasy leagues.
Sun Apr 11 201016:08Gregg picks up save in Frasor's absence
Kevin Gregg notched a save with a scoreless ninth inning against the Orioles today.
Jason Frasor had pitched in three of the last four games and was getting a day off, so there's nothing to read into here. It is clear that Gregg is next in line for saves, however.
Fri Apr 9 201018:09Jays' Gregg picks up first save
Kevin Gregg pitched a perfect ninth Friday to protect a one-run lead against the Orioles and earn his first save.
As we predicted last night, regular closer Jason Frasor was given today off after working for the third time in four days. Gregg got the nod in the ninth and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
