Thu Jun 16 201115:31Kevin Gregg records 13th save
Kevin Gregg recorded his 13th save despite giving up an Adam Lind homer in the ninth inning Thursday.
Gregg has the ugly 1.54 WHIP, but his ERA remains solid at 3.29 and he hasn't had any sort of prolonged slump to get himself bumped from the closer's role. Manager Buck Showalter seems poised to stick with him until given a very good reason not to.

Sun Jun 12 201100:12Gregg blows save vs. Rays
Kevin Gregg blew his fourth save of the season Saturday against the Rays.
Ben Zobrist reached on a triple with one out in the ninth and Casey Kotchman delivered a two-out single to tie the score. It was the first run allowed by Gregg since May 20 and his first blown save since May 16. While Gregg's 21/19 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings doesn't portend well, his job is pretty secure in the short-term.

Tue May 31 201113:55Gregg has posted 3 straight scoreless frames
Kevin Gregg has recorded three consecutive scoreless appearances despite producing a 1/6 K/BB ratio in those outings.
Gregg was 0-1 with two blown saves and an 8.44 ERA in six appearances between May 10-20, so the scoreless outings do count as progress of sorts. But Gregg hasn't necessarily been noticeably better in the last 10 days, putting seven hitters on base in three innings and somehow stranding them all. Koji Uehara could get a look at closer down the road if Gregg continues to struggle.

Mon May 23 201111:56Gregg struggling since May 10
Kevin Gregg is 0-1 with two blown saves and an 8.44 ERA in six appearances since May 10.
He went from April 19-May 9 without giving up a run, but has since reverted back to mediocrity, allowing a 1.008 opponent OPS since May 10, which has caused his ERA to balloon from 2.25 to 4.15. Koji Uehara could definitely get a look at closer if Gregg continues to struggle.

Tue May 3 201113:26Gregg successful in last four save chances
Orioles closer Kevin Gregg has successfully converted his last four save opportunities.
Gregg hit a rough patch in mid-April, but he hasn't allowed a run in close to two weeks and can now boast a healthy 2.70 ERA through 10 innings. The right-hander has surrendered just one hit since April 18.

Tue Apr 19 201117:42O's Gregg needs more work
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday that he would like to get Kevin Gregg more work.
The Orioles are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, so opportunities have been hard to come by. "It's certainly something that we're conscious of coming out of spring training, but some of the situations that we've had early in the season haven't been there in perfect situations," said Showalter. "We haven't had a lot of leads late in the game for a while, the last week or so. That's why he pitched last night. It is something that, every opportunity we get, we'll continue to push him out there." Gregg has a 5.40 ERA and 5/4 K/BB ratio over his first five appearances this season. Koji Uehara would be worth grabbing should he continue to struggle.

Fri Apr 15 201117:40Gregg hasn't lost closer role for Orioles
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that Kevin Gregg is still his closer.
It's the obvious question following Gregg's blown save against the Yankees on Thursday night, but Showalter isn't ready to make any changes. Koji Uehara is probably the biggest threat for the job, but he isn't ready to pitch on back-to-back days.

Sat Apr 2 201122:04Gregg earns first save as O's top Rays
Kevin Gregg earned his first save of the season Saturday with a scoreless ninth against the Rays.
Gregg allowed a single and a walk, and he basically had to be saved by Nick Markakis' fantastic catch to end the game. But a save is a save in fantasy circles. He should continue to get chances over Koji Uehara.

Wed Mar 30 201114:35Gregg to handle most save chances early
Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com writes that while the Orioles don't have an official closer right now, look for Kevin Gregg to get most of the early save chances.
Koji Uehara can't go on back-to-back days right now, so it's a pretty easy decision to make. Gregg always finds a way to pile up saves no matter where he goes and we're expecting nothing less this year. He's the one to own in this bullpen right now.

Sun Mar 27 201117:21Orioles' Gregg records win in relief
Making his first appearance in 12 days, Kevin Gregg picked up a win in relief after working a scoreless inning against the Red Sox on Sunday.
The Orioles had Gregg working on his mechanics on the side after he allowed four earned runs in back-to-back outings on March 11 and 15. His outing today wasn't clean, as he allowed a hit and a walk to Red Sox minor leaguers. Still, that's what he usually does even when he's racking up the saves. If he can keep it up over his next couple of appearances, he might yet be first in line to close for the Orioles.

Tue Mar 15 201117:12Gregg rocked by Houston
Kevin Gregg got knocked around by the Astros on Monday, giving up three hits, five runs (four earned) and a grand slam while recording just one out.
Brett Walace is the Astro that cleared the bases. Gregg's spring ERA is now 13.50 through 5 1/3 innings, and he's set to be one of fantasy baseball's poorer options at closer to start out the season. Koji Uehara can't get healthy soon enough.

Mon Mar 7 201104:13Gregg nearer to cementing closer's job
With Koji Uehara's health in question, Kevin Gregg has further cemented his status as the Orioles' closer.
Manager Buck Showalter insisted that nothing is assured at this stage. But Uehara's durability is a lingering question entering the season, meaning Gregg likely controls his destiny going forward.

Sat Jan 15 201108:54Gregg isn't guaranteed closer job
Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail and manager Buck Showalter haven't guaranteed the closer job to Kevin Gregg.
"I know what I want to do. I know what I can do," Gregg said. "Given the circumstances, it will play out the way it needs to play it out. But the bottom line is the best interest in the team is what we need to go with. I like my chances of being a closer, but I like the other guys, too. We don't have to have one certain guy every single night." We do expect Gregg to win the job, and Showalter has hinted that he's the heavy favorite, saying, "last time I looked, he's the only guy on the club that saved 37 games in the AL East." However, a poor spring training from Gregg could open the door for Koji Uehara or Mike Gonzalez.

Thu Jan 13 201117:51O's finalize two-year deal with Kevin Gregg
Orioles signed RHP Kevin Gregg to a two-year, $10 million contract with a vesting option for 2013.
The right-hander has been told that he will serve as the Orioles' primary closer this season, but that could always change if something goes awry in spring training or in the first few months of the 2011 season. Koji Uehara and Mike Gonzalez would surely love another crack at the ninth inning if Gregg falters. The 32-year-old posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 58/30 K/BB ratio last season for the Blue Jays, saving 37 games in 43 chances.
Fri Jan 7 201120:19Kevin Gregg will undergo physical on Tuesday
Kevin Gregg will be in Baltimore on Tuesday to undergo a physical.
Gregg's two-year, $10 million pact with the Orioles will be made official if he passes. Baltimore inked Gregg to become their closer, though a lot can change in spring training. Koji Uehara and Mike Gonzalez figure to be Gregg's main competition and the emergence of either could make for a potentially frustrating fantasy situation.

Tue Jan 4 201117:14Gregg could make $16-20 million with O's
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Kevin Gregg has the potential to make $16-20 million in his new contract with the Orioles.
Gregg will make $10 million over the first two years of the contract, but has a vesting option that could push the total value to $16-20 million. While Gregg has a lot of closing experience, that's quite a commitment for someone who is hardly a lockdown late-game option.

Tue Jan 4 201115:00Gregg's deal worth $10M over two years
According to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, Kevin Gregg's new deal with the Orioles is worth $10 million over two years.
The contract also carries a vesting option for 2013. That's quite a bit of money to pay the 32-year-old Gregg, who posted a pedestrian 3.51 ERA and 1.39 WHIP as a closer in Toronto last season, but we've seen a lot of crazy contracts handed out to relievers this offseason. Gregg is likely to open the 2011 season as Baltimore's primary ninth inning man.

Tue Jan 4 201114:22O's reach contract with reliever Kevin Gregg
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles have agreed to a contract with free agent reliever Kevin Gregg.
The deal is only pending a physical and should be completed this week. Gregg posted a decent 3.51 ERA and 37 saves in 43 chances last year for Toronto and is likely going to open the 2011 season as Baltimore's primary closer. If he gets off to a rocky start, though, the O's could always turn to Koji Uehara or Mike Gonzalez. There are far better fantasy options out there.

Mon Jan 3 201120:25Kevin Gregg to decide on team this week
Kevin Gregg's agent Danny Horwits said that his client's decision will come "this week, in the next couple of days."
"We've been going back and forth with the teams that are left in the mix for the last couple of weeks," said Horwits. "We've received new counter offers, fine-tuned other offers. Now, we're pretty much in the mode of Kevin is going to make a decision." Horwits wouldn't say which teams were involved in the pursuit of his client, but the Orioles have been mentioned most often.

Mon Dec 27 201017:45Report: O's in talks with Kevin Gregg
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Orioles are in talks with Kevin Gregg.
In other words, nothing has changed. The Orioles remain Gregg's best option, though the club has already re-signed Koji Uehara and still has Mike Gonzalez under contract for 2011.
