Sun Nov 10 201301:33Greivis Vasquez quiet in loss to Blazers
Greivis Vasquez hit 3-of-5 shots for six points, three rebounds and five assists in 32 minutes on Saturday.
Coach Mike Malone was ticked off after the game and said changes may be coming to the starting five in the near future. He mentioned that DeMarcus Cousins is still his starting center, but that all other positions were up for grab. That means that Isaiah Thomas (12 points, one assist in 17 minutes) could be in play to replace Vasquez at point guard, while John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Marcus Thornton's starting jobs could all be up for grabs. Stay tuned.

Sat Nov 9 201308:25Vasquez gets back on the board for SAC
Greivis Vasquez scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with two rebounds, six assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 32 minutes on Friday.
Vasquez has really struggled to find his way in Sacto and is hasn't helped that Isaiah Thomas (13 points, seven assists) has been the team's best or second-best player all season. It also doesn't help that he has some holes in his fantasy game. Look for Vasquez to continue to improve over his current numbers, as it appears he'll be able to tap into minutes at shooting guard and that will keep Thomas' ascension from hurting too much.

Thu Nov 7 201309:37Greivis Vasquez thinks he's pressing too hard
Greivis Vasquez thinks his early season struggles are stemming from trying too hard to play better.
Vasquez has started extremely slow out of the gate for the Kings after averaging nine assists per game with the Hornets (Pelicans?) last season. While it's good to see Vasquez searching inward to improve his game, Isaiah Thomas is nipping at his heels for the starting point guard job and is the better player to own in fantasy right now.

Sun Nov 3 201301:39Greivis Vasquez awful in loss to Warriors
Greivis Vasquez started again for the Kings on Saturday, but hit just 1-of-7 shots for two points and three assists in 24 minutes of a blowout loss.
Isaiah Thomas hit just 2-of-10 shots and zero 3-pointers off the bench, but was aggressive, finishing with 12 points, three rebounds, five assists and a steal. We have no idea why he's not starting over Vasquez, but it appears that the Kings are going to roll with Vasquez until further notice. But for fantasy purposes, IT2 is the better player to own.

Sun Oct 27 201317:50Vasquez to start after rocky preseason
Greivis Vasquez will start on opening night for the Kings, with Isaiah Thomas coming off the bench.
Vasquez gets the job after a rocky preseason and there's only so many excuses that can be given for the ankle issue he entered training camp with. The fact is that he has a pass-only game that is the antithesis of last year's Kings, and after such strong support out of the front office following his acquisition he's going to get first crack. Vasquez is not the fantasy asset that Thomas is on a per-minute basis, and we'd expect Mike Malone to ride the hot hand -- which to date has been Thomas.

Sat Oct 26 201303:02Vasquez struggling, but diming his way to job
Greivis Vasquez started at point guard on Friday against the Clippers, but missed all five of his shot attempts while handing out 12 assists in 22 minutes.
The assists are somewhat fluky given the preseason tempo and the Kings started off slow yet again, but it's almost cliche to start the guy that only wants to pass if you've watched years of bad basketball in Sacramento. The Sacramento media is pushing hard for Vasquez to start, and the team has been vocal in their praise of his pass-only ways. And with Thomas scoring 27 points tonight off the bench he might have inadvertently bought himself a bench job.

Thu Oct 24 201301:40Greivis Vasquez quiet again on Wednesday
Greivis Vasquez started at point guard again on Wednesday but struggled, hitting 3-of-5 shots and a 3-pointer for seven points, two rebounds and three assists.
Isaiah Thomas came off the bench to hit 5-of-13 shots and 9-of-10 free throws for 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two 3-pointers. Thomas has looked better than Vasquez this preseason, and it doesn't even look close to us. We're still expecting Thomas to win the job and he looks like the better player to own at this point.

Fri Oct 18 201300:28Greivis Vasquez scores 10 points in 15 mins.
Greivis Vasquez played 15 minutes against the Suns on Thursday, scoring 10 points with one board, two assists, two steals, two 3-pointers and one turnover.
He looked much better than he did in his two-point game during his preseason debut on Monday, but that's to be expected. Isaiah Thomas had a rough game, making 2-of-9 from the field for four points with one assist and two turnovers in 21 minutes. Vasquez looks like he has the inside track to win the starting job, but nothing is certain yet.

Tue Oct 15 201301:54Vasquez returns to action in Monday's game
Greivis Vasquez returned to action and played 11 minutes in Monday's preseason win over the Clippers, scoring two points on 1-of-2 shooting with two rebounds and one assist.
Vasquez looked better than the numbers indicated, and Isaiah Thomas didn't look as good as the 16 points, four rebounds and five assists suggested, either. It's going to be a hard battle that comes down to the wire, though Thomas has the upper hand in fantasy leagues with his superior statistical production. Mark Malone has said that whoever starts in preseason games 5-7 will be his starters.

Mon Oct 14 201317:35Greivis Vasquez expected to play 10-15 mins.
Greivis Vasquez is expected to play 10-15 minutes in his preseason debut on Monday.
He's been out with his ankle injury and the team has taken it easy on him. Vasquez has been with the team for activities and has done some work in practice, but this will be his first noteworthy action since his ankle surgery back on May 24. His position battle with Isaiah Thomas is one of the most interesting in the NBA.

Tue Oct 8 201319:29Greivis Vasquez will sit out until Monday
Greivis Vasquez (ankle) is expected to make his Kings debut on Monday night against the Clippers.
He didn't play the preseason opener and Isaiah Thomas ran the show against the Warriors. IT2 did turn the ball over five times, but it wasn't a sub-par game considering it was his first action of the preseason. This is one of the better position battles in the NBA, but both figure to cancel each other out a bit since they're both starting-caliber point guards.

Tue Oct 8 201315:49Vasquez, Landry may sit out again Wednesday
Greivis Vasquez (ankle) and Carl Landry (quad) may both sit out Wednesday's preseason game.
"Greivis was a trooper down at training camp, got through almost every practice," Malone said. "But we don't want to rush him ... Carl [Landry], same thing, he's just got a couple of things aching him right now. If he's not 100 percent, we don't want to risk him getting hurt any further." Those quotes from Malone sum up the situation nicely, and both guys are expected to be ready for the Kings' season opener.

Tue Oct 8 201300:25Greivis Vasquez sits out on Monday night
Greivis Vasquez did not play against the Warriors on Monday night.
He was with the team and coach Mike Malone just wanted to keep him rested. Vasquez spent most of his summer rehabbing his ankle, but he has been in practice and is ready to compete for the starting job. No player had more total assists than GV last year, but the timeshare with Isaiah Thomas will hurt his value.

Thu Oct 3 201309:39Vasquez says he wants Thomas to get better
Greivis Vasquez says he wants to help Isaiah Thomas get better this season.
"Man I love that kid, I love him," said Vasquez. "I'm here to help him get better, and he is here to help me get better. It is not about heroes. We have to help this team win." Translation: GV wants to win the stating job. The Kings point guard spot is one of the most intriguing position battles in training camps. Chances are Vasquez and Thomas are going to negate each other as far as stats go, so while both are worth drafting and offer upside with how they fill up box scores, there's some risk involved.

Tue Oct 1 201321:01Greivis Vasquez goes through full practice
Greivis Vasquez, who is coming off right ankle surgery, was a full participant in practice on Tuesday.
In fact, every member of the Kings was, which means we're going to clear out the injury queue on them. However, Vasquez was favoring the ankle during wind sprints and took ice treatment after the practice, which is to be expected. Now we just have to wait and see whether it will be Vasquez or Isaiah Thomas who is named the starting point guard. Either way, both players are worth drafting.

Tue Oct 1 201311:42Greivis Vasquez (ankle) '85-90 percent' ready
Greivis Vasquez (ankle surgery) said that he's "85, 90 percent ready" and will participate in training camp.
"I'm probably going to play limited minutes through the first couple of games because I want to be playing in April," Vasquez said. "I don't want to overload my ankle right now and not be able to play later on. Coach [Mike] Malone is very aware of that." Vasquez is battling Isaiah Thomas for the Kings' starting PG job, one of the more intriguing position battles to monitor during the preseason.

Tue Sep 3 201311:58Vasquez (ankle) 'on schedule' for reg. season
Greivis Vasquez (ankle) is "on schedule for the start of the NBA season," according to ESPN.com.
"I find myself to be much better," Vasquez said. "The progress has been really good and really productive but I need a month and a half to get my physical condition at 100 percent again." Vasquez led the NBA in total assists last year, and first year coach Mike Malone has spoken about the importance of "willing playmakers" on the Kings. The need for six more weeks of rehab suggests that Vasquez may not be in peak condition until mid-October, however, and it adds some intrigue to his training camp battle with Isaiah Thomas.

Sun Sep 1 201309:45Vasquez favored to start at PG for Kings?
Kings coach Mike Malone described Greivis Vasquez as "a guy who gives you 14 points and nine assists."
"The exciting thing about Greivis is those nine assists per game, we need willing playmakers," said Malone, citing Vasquez's averages with New Orleans last year. His quotes strengthen the notion that Vasquez will start at PG over Isaiah Thomas this year, but we won't know for sure until training camp.

Thu Aug 22 201313:23Vasquez (ankle) won't play in FIBA tourney
Greivis Vasquez (right ankle surgery) will not play in the FIBA Americas Championship this summer.
The good news is that the Kings' new PG has been medically cleared to "start training pick and rolls, shots, lateral movements and changes in direction." He said in mid-July that he felt "great" and would be ready for training camp, and his decision to skip the FIBA tournament should only help his complete recovery.

Sat Jul 13 201309:49Kings coach raves about Greivis Vasquez
Kings coach Mike Malone feels that Greivis Vasquez is big enough to play multiple positions.
Malone called Vasquez "part of the new identity" of the Kings and there's a growing sense that he will start at PG, shifting Isaiah Thomas to a bench role. "You pass up good shots to get great shots, and Greivis will set the tone for us from Day One," said Malone. Vasquez's versatility should allow him to play with IT2 for stretches, but Sacramento's backcourt rotation remains gummed up with guys like Marcus Thornton, Ben McLemore and Jimmer Fredette. Vasquez (right ankle surgery) also said that he's eight weeks away from playing and he expects to be ready for training camp.
