Mon Aug 29 201122:32Hochevar good enough to win
Luke Hochevar was good enough to pick up his ninth win Monday, giving up five runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings in a victory over the Tigers.
He struck out seven. It's far from a superb effort, but Hochevar has quietly put together a pretty nice second half, posting a 3.99 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 48/18 K/BB ratio over nine starts. He'll go up against the Indians over the weekend.

Fri Aug 19 201100:27Hochevar not good enough to beat Boston
Luke Hochevar surrendered four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.
He did strike out six but was undone by a bunch of singles, as well as four stolen bases. Considering the opponent, it wasn't a poor start at all, and Hochevar has actually pitched quite well thus far in the second half, boasting a 3.55 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in seven post-break starts. He'll square off against the Blue Jays the next time out.

Luke Hochevar held the Orioles to two runs (one earned) on just four hits in 7 1/3 innings on Wednesday, moving to 8-8 in Kansas City's 6-2 win at home.
He struck out a season-high seven while walking only one. Tonight was just the second time in 23 starts this season that Hochevar has recorded more than 21 outs. He'll take a 4.95 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into his Monday outing against the Rays in Tampa.

Thu Jul 28 201117:05Luke Hochevar earns win over Boston
Luke Hochevar beat Boston by allowing two runs over seven innings on Thursday.
This ranks right up there with his most impressive starts of the season, probably trailing only a May 19 home start against the Rangers in which he allowed one run in 8 2/3 innings. Hochevar still isn't worth playing in AL-only leagues with the way his strikeout rate has collapsed this year.

Fri Jul 22 201123:56Luke Hochevar does enough to win
It wasn't pretty, but Luke Hochevar did enough to win Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 5 1/3 frames in a 10-4 win over the Rays.
He served up four extra-base hits -- including two home runs -- despite picking up his sixth victory, as he was simply not as bad as Wade Davis. Hochevar was coming off one of his better efforts of the season in his first start after the break, but that was his only quality start since June 15. He'll carry a 5.29 ERA and 1.37 WHIP into next week's outing against the Red Sox.

Sat Jul 16 201100:12Hochevar takes no-decision in Minnesota
Luke Hochevar allowed just one run on three hits and three walks in seven innings of work on Friday evening, taking a no-decision in Kansas City's 2-1 win in Minnesota.
Hochevar was headed for a hard-luck loss until Matt Capps blew his seventh save in the top of the ninth inning. The quality start was his first in five outings, while tonight was the first time in four starts he was able to complete six innings of work. Through 124 2/3 innings this season, Hochevar is now the owner of a 5.23 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 64/41 K/BB ratio.

Sun Jun 26 201117:53Hochevar notches fifth win
Luke Hochevar allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings on Sunday, improving to 5-8 in the Royals' 6-3 win over the Cubs.
He struck out five. Today was the first time in five June starts that Hochevar failed to complete at least six innings of work. Now the owner of a 4.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, he'll get the Rockies in Colorado next weekend. It might be best to keep him benched for that tilt, though it's never easy to predict which Hochevar will show up on any given day.

Luke Hochevar allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in seven innings of work on Tuesday evening, falling to 4-8 in Kansas City's 7-2 loss against Arizona.
At least he struck out six batters after failing to whiff anyone in his last start. Through 105 innings of work, he is now the owner of a 4.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 48/29 K/BB ratio. He's an AL-only spot starter at best. Hochevar gets the Cubs next time around.

Luke Hochevar pitched seven innings of two-run ball in a victory over the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Hochevar won for the first time in his last seven starts. He was pitching pretty well as of mid-May, but in his last three outings, he gave up 17 earned runs over 18 innings. After this one, he's 4-6 with a 5.04 ERA. He's an AL-only spot starter at best.

Wed May 25 201121:48Hochevar roughed up by the Orioles
Luke Hochevar got ambushed by the Orioles on Wednesday evening, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks in seven innings of a Royals loss.
He struck out one. The eight runs were a season worst for Hochevar, though he has now allowed six or more runs four times in 11 starts. However, coming into tonight he had been 4-for-4 in May when it came to turning in a quality outing. He'll get the Angels in Kansas City next Monday.

Thu May 19 201123:57Luke Hochevar superb in no-decision
Luke Hochevar didn't pick up the win but was superb Thursday, holding the Rangers to one run on six hits and two walks over 8 2/3 innings in the 2-1 extra innings win.
He struck out four, with the only blemish being a Chris Davis home run in the second inning. Hochevar has now had four straight strong outings, though his 11/9 K/BB ratio over that time leaves a lot to be desired. The right-hander will take solid marks of a 4.36 ERA and 1.17 WHIP into next week's start against the Orioles.

Fri May 13 201121:34Hochevar no match for Verlander in 3-1 loss
Luke Hochevar got easily out-dueled by Detroit's Justin Verlander on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings of Kansas City's 3-1 loss to the Tigers.
He struck out three, and also got tagged for solo home runs by both Austin Jackson and Jhonny Peralta. The quality start was Hochevar's third straight to start off the month after he allowed a combined 12 runs in his final two April outings.

Sun May 1 201117:52Hochevar just good enough to win
Luke Hochevar held the Twins to three runs on five hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday, improving to 3-3 on the season in a 10-3 Royals victory.
A far from inspiring effort, but good enough for a win against a struggling Twins team. Hochevar's ERA now rests at 5.48 through his first 44 1/3 innings. He has allowed four or more runs in four of his six starts, and fewer than three only once. In other words, he's still the same old Hochevar.

Tue Apr 26 201122:18Luke Hochevar knocked around Tuesday
Luke Hochevar was blasted for six runs on 11 hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Indians.
He struck out three and served up a trio of home runs -- one to Matt LaPorta and two to Jack Hannahan. It's the second straight start that Hochevar has been knocked around by the Indians, as he gave up six runs to them last week, as well. He still sports a 1.21 WHIP on the year, but his ERA is up to 5.68. Hochevar will go up against the Twins over the weekend.

Wed Apr 20 201123:52Hochevar roughed up by Indians
The bad Luke Hochevar showed up on Wednesday night against the Indians, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks in a Kansas City loss.
Just when you thought it was safe to own the former number one overall pick, he goes out and has a night like this. Hochevar is capable of throwing a no hitter any time he takes the mound, but unfortunately, he's also far too capable of having games like this.

Fri Apr 15 201123:32Hochevar stifles Mariners in 6-5 victory
Luke Hochevar dominated the Mariners on Friday evening, allowing just one hit and one run in seven innings of work in Kansas City's 6-5 victory.
He struck out four and walked two in improving to 2-1. Hochevar remains maddeningly inconsistent, but still turns in enough outings like tonight's to remind people why he was once the top overall pick in the draft. He may never put it all together, but it's hard to believe he's already peaked.

Sun Apr 10 201116:19Royals' Hochevar goes seven in victory
Despite giving up three homers, Luke Hochevar earned a win over the Tigers on Sunday after allowing four runs -- three earned -- in seven innings.
Hochevar never walked anyone and he allowed just two hits apart from the homers off the bats of Jhonny Peralta, Alex Avila and Miguel Cabrera. Hochevar has already allowed six homers this season after giving up nine in 17 starts in 2010. It doesn't bode well.

Tue Apr 5 201123:44Hochevar gives up six runs in no-decision
Luke Hochevar yielded six runs -- five earned -- over six innings Tuesday in an extra-inning win against the White Sox.
Hochevar was lucky to escape with the no-decision after this outing. He struck out just one while allowing seven hits, two walks and a homer. Hochevar has posted a 6.17 ERA through two starts and needs to be avoided in all but the deepest AL-only formats. He'll take on the Tigers in Detroit on Sunday.

Sat Mar 26 201118:03Luke Hochevar gets knocked around
Luke Hochevar surrendered four runs on eight hits and a walk over four innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
He struck out three. Hochevar has a 5.68 ERA with just seven strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings this spring. It's not exactly what you're looking for from your Opening Day starter, but that's probably because Hochevar shouldn't be an Opening Day starter. He has a modicum of upside but isn't worth more than an AL-only flier.
