Tue Jun 10 2014 | 15:58 | Latos cleared to return to Reds rotation Sat. |
Mat Latos (elbow, knee, calf) has been cleared to join the Reds' starting rotation this Saturday. |
Latos tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball Monday in a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville, reporting no issues with his elbow, calf, or knee. The 26-year-old right-hander registered a 3.16 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 210 2/3 innings last season for the Reds and has the ability to be a fantasy ace over the final two-thirds of 2014. |

Sun Jun 8 2014 | 11:33 | Latos (elbow) to rejoin rotation this week |
Reds manager Bryan Price said that Mat Latos (elbow) will rejoin the rotation later this week if he gets through Monday's rehab start for Triple-A Louisville with no issues. |
Latos last rehab outing was supposed to be his final one, but it was cut short due to a calf cramp. As long as the right-hander reaches his pitch count and feels healthy after Monday's outing, he'll be back in the rotation next weekend. Latos is on the same schedule as Tony Cingrani, essentially confirming that Cingrani will be sent to the bullpen (or possibly to Triple-A) after Monday's start against the Dodgers. Alfredo Simon will remain in the rotation. |

Fri Jun 6 2014 | 15:52 | Mat Latos to make another rehab start |
Mat Latos (elbow, calf) will make another rehab start. |
Latos made what was supposed to be his final rehab start Wednesday, but he had to be pulled early because of a calf cramp. He's not happy about having one more tune-up outing. "I'm perfectly fine," Latos said. "I could pitch today. I'm a puppet on a string." Latos should rejoin the Reds' rotation late next week. |

Thu Jun 5 2014 | 10:23 | Mat Latos exits rehab start with calf cramp |
Mat Latos made an early exit from his third rehab start Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville due to a calf cramp. |
Latos had only thrown 67 pitches. It was supposed to be his final rehab outing, but the Reds may want to extend his pitch count further before putting him back into the major league rotation. He was projected to throw 90-100 pitches against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The right-hander has not made a start for Cincinnati this season. |

Mat Latos pitched well in his second minor league rehab start at Triple-A Louisville on Friday, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks over 4 2/3 scoreless innings. |
Latos fanned three on the evening, throwing 46 of his 81 offerings for strikes. It's unclear if he'll make a third and final rehab start, or if his next outing will come as a member of the Reds rotation. |

Fri May 23 2014 | 15:59 | Latos (elbow) ready for rehab assignment |
Mat Latos (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment on Sunday. |
It will likely be at Triple-A Louisville, though that's not set in stone yet. Latos will throw 50-60 pitches in the outing. It's not clear how many rehab appearances he'll need, but if he gets his pitch count up to 60 in his first one, he shouldn't need many more. Count on an early June return from the righty as long as all goes well. |

Sun May 18 2014 | 09:12 | Mat Latos (elbow) to throw live BP |
Mat Latos (elbow) will throw live batting practice Tuesday. |
He's been cleared to face hitters after another successful bullpen session on Saturday. If Tuesday's live BP session goes well, Latos could be cleared for a rehab assignment. He's on track for an early June return. "The bullpen sessions feel really good," Latos said. "The ball feels like it's jumping out of my hand. I feel like I've got good action on my pitches. I'm able to throw all of my pitches. It wasn't an issue before hand but it's still a good thing. We're still on the right track." |

Thu May 15 2014 | 10:40 | Reds transfer Mat Latos to the 60-day DL |
Reds transferred RHP Mat Latos from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. |
It's a procedural move to clear a 40-man roster spot for Jeff Francis, who will make a spot start in Thursday's doubleheader against the Padres. Latos (elbow) is currently throwing bullpen sessions and still at least three weeks away from returning to the Reds' rotation. |

Mat Latos (elbow) will throw two more bullpen sessions and a simulated game before beginning a rehab assignment. |
Latos got through a bullpen session Sunday with no issues. Manager Bryan Price doesn't want to put a timetable on the right-hander, but Latos is trending towards a late May/early June return. "I try to stay with the day to day plan. We didn't anticipate the flexor mass strain," Price said on Tuesday. We always leave it open to be able to adjust it." |

Sun May 11 2014 | 12:17 | Mat Latos (elbow) throws bullpen session |
Mat Latos (elbow) threw a bullpen session Sunday. |
It was the first time he's thrown off a mound since he was diagnosed with a flexor mass strain in his right elbow last month. Latos' wife, Dallas, tweeted that the bullpen session "went great." It's not clear when Latos will resume a rehab assignment, but it shouldn't be long assuming he continues to progress. |

Mon Apr 28 2014 | 15:47 | Latos (elbow) to resume mound work soon |
Mat Latos (elbow) hopes to resume throwing off a mound within the next week. |
Latos had to halt his throwing program in early April after being diagnosed with a flexor mass strain in his right elbow. He played catch on flat ground Friday and had no issues, but the real test will come when he begins throwing off a slope at full speed. There is no timetable for Latos' 2014 regular season debut. |

Fri Apr 25 2014 | 16:37 | Mat Latos (elbow) throws for third time |
Mat Latos (elbow) threw on flat ground Friday for the third time since his setback. |
It's been so far, so good for the right-hander as he works his way back from a flexor mass strain in his right elbow. However, the real test will be when he gets on a mound again. The Reds have not provided a timetable for Latos' return to the rotation. |

Sun Apr 13 2014 | 11:10 | Mat Latos diagnosed with flexor mass strain |
An MRI has revealed a flexor mass strain in Mat Latos' right elbow. |
It's an injury that often requires surgery, but Latos will just rest and rehab for now. There's no timetable for the right-hander's return, but he figures to be on the shelf for a while. Alfredo Simon will continue to hold down a rotation spot in his absence. |

Sat Apr 12 2014 | 11:48 | Mat Latos undergoes MRI exam on forearm |
Mat Latos underwent an MRI exam on his forearm on Saturday. |
He felt renewed soreness in his forearm during Friday's bullpen session and was sent for the test to determine the severity of the injury. It's a big setback for Latos, who is now unlikely to rejoin the Reds rotation before the end of April. Alfredo Simon will continue to hold down the fort in his absence. |

Fri Apr 11 2014 | 16:50 | Latos (elbow) still sore during 'pen session |
Mat Latos still felt soreness in the flexor mass of his right elbow when he threw a bullpen session Friday. |
Obviously, he'll be shut down from throwing again and will be limited to getting treatment for the time being. It doesn't appear at this point that surgery is an option, but Latos certainly seems unlikely to be ready before the end of the month. Alfredo Simon will continue to hold down a spot in the rotation. |

Fri Apr 11 2014 | 15:39 | Mat Latos (elbow) to throw 'pen session Fri. |
Mat Latos (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Friday. |
It's obviously a good sign, and Latos should be able to get back on track quickly if he can get through the 'pen session with no issues. The right-hander had to be scratched from what was supposed to be his final rehab start due to a sore elbow earlier this week, so he conceivably still might only need one more rehab outing provided he's healthy. |

Wed Apr 9 2014 | 12:24 | Latos (elbow) has 'had some improvement' |
Reds manager Bryan Price said Wednesday that Mat Latos has "had some improvement" with his right elbow irritation. |
Latos had to be scratched from what was supposed to be his final rehab start due to a sore elbow, but the Reds are confident it's not a serious issue. "We're going to give him a couple of days off," Price said. "He's had some improvement... Doesn't look like significant setback." It's too early to say at this point when Latos might be ready for game action action, but it's sounding like a return before the end of the month might still be doable. |

Tue Apr 8 2014 | 16:50 | Latos' return delayed by elbow inflammation |
Mat Latos is dealing with elbow inflammation. |
That's the reason he was scratched from a scheduled rehab start on Tuesday at Triple-A Louisville. Latos is working back from early-spring knee surgery and will obviously be out now for another couple weeks. He allowed five runs -- three earned -- over four innings in his first rehab start last Thursday at Double-A Pensacola. |

Tue Apr 8 2014 | 13:35 | Latos (knee) scratched from rehab outing |
Mat Latos (knee) will not make his scheduled rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Louisville. |
No word yet on the reason for the change. Latos, who had knee surgery early in the spring, allowed five runs (three earned) over four innings last Thursday in his first rehab outing with Double-A Pensacola. He's tentatively scheduled to join the Reds' rotation around the middle of the month. |
