Wed Apr 23 201411:50Alcantara homers again
Cubs prospect 2B/SS Arismendy Alcantara homered on Tuesday for the second straight game for Triple-A Iowa.
After hitting his first home run of the season Monday, Alcantara added to his total Tuesday as part of a 2-for-5 performance that also included a double and two RBI. The 22-year-old middle infielder turned in a breakout campaign last season at Double-A Tennessee, batting .271/.352/.451 with 55 extra-base hits and 31 stolen bases in 133 games. Alcantara is one of several Cubs prospect already fighting for playing time on the team's future infield, but his strong start at Iowa could potentially get him to the major leagues by June.

Thu Apr 17 201412:04Cubs 2B prospect Alcantara with three hits
Cubs prospect 2B Arismendy Alcantara went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple Wednesday at Triple-A Iowa.
Alcantara is hitting .289/.306/.467 with six doubles, a triple, and three stolen bases in his first 13 games in Triple-A. He has not walked enough in the first two weeks and strikes out more than is preferable for a leadoff hitter, but he has the talent to hit .300 in the major leagues while stealing 20-plus bases and hitting 30-plus doubles. With Darwin Barney hitting .120/.290/.120 at the major league level, it looks like Alcantara could get promoted in early June once the "Super Two" deadline has passed.

Mon Mar 17 201413:06Alcantara hits first spring home run
Cubs prospect INF Arismendy Alcantara was 3-for-3 with his first spring home run on Sunday against the Mets.
Headed into the game, Alcantara, 22, was 0-for-12 in spring games, so his breakout performance on Sunday is certainly encouraging. Last season, the middle infielder batted .271/.352/.451 with 15 home runs and 31 stolen bases at Double-A Tennessee. Alcantara is likely to reach the major leagues at some point during the upcoming season, but keep in mind he has Javier Baez ahead of him on the organizational depth chart.
