Fri Apr 20 201210:17Armando Galarraga reaches out to Marlins
Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said free agent Armando Galarraga recently reached out to him to see if the team might be interested in him.
Galarraga is hoping Guillen, a fellow Venezuelan, can get him a job after he was released by the Orioles earlier this month. "I've passed it up the ladder," Guillen said. The Marlins don't need starter help at the major league level, but it's possible they could give Galarraga a shot on a minor league deal.

Tue Mar 13 201205:00Galarraga hit hard in middle relief

Tue Jan 17 201217:29Orioles ink RHP Galarraga to minors deal
Orioles signed RHP Armando Galarraga to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. Galarraga, who turned 31 on Sunday, had an ugly 5.91 ERA and 28/22 K/BB ratio over eight starts with the Diamondbacks last season. He could be in the mix for a rotation spot with an impressive showing.

Sat May 21 201115:27D-Backs outright Galarraga to minors
Diamondbacks sent RHP Armando Galarraga outright to Triple-A Reno.
Galarraga was designated for assignment earlier this week after posting a 5.91 ERA and 28/22 K/BB ratio over eight starts. With his $2.3 million contract, it's no surprise that he went unclaimed. The 29-year-old right-hander will stick around as depth for the starting rotation.

Wed May 18 201108:42Armando Galarraga designated for assignment
Diamondbacks designated RHP Armando Galarraga for assignment.
The D'Backs stuck with him about as long as they could, but they decided to cut the cord after another poor outing Monday. Galarraga posted a 5.91 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in eight starts. With a $2.3 million price tag, it's unlikely anyone will claim him off waivers, so it's possible he could wind up staying in the organization at Triple-A. Arizona hasn't decided who will fill Galarraga's spot in the rotation Saturday.

Thu May 12 201116:37Galarraga to remain in Arizona rotation
Armando Galarraga is not being removed from Arizona's rotation and will make his next scheduled start.
Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers suggested Thursday that the club might look for alternatives with Galarraga and Joe Saunders struggling, but there simply aren't many options out there. Galarraga has a 5.50 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in seven starts so far this season.

Thu May 12 201108:33D'Backs looking for rotation alternatives
Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers indicated that he could start seeking alternatives for the back end of the rotation.
Armando Galarraga and Joe Saunders have both been pretty terrible and would be the first to go. The problem is that Barry Enright was just booted from the rotation in favor of Josh Collmenter, and Zach Duke (hand) is still a few weeks away. Towers doesn't want to rush Jarrod Parker or Tyler Skaggs. The GM thinks that if he does make a deal for some starting depth, it would likely involve him dealing a bench player like Willie Bloomquist. "Are there clubs that have some depths at Triple-A?" Towers said. "Maybe back-of-the-rotation-type starters that are a fit for us and maybe one of our bench guys is a fit for them. Those are the things we're looking at externally, but nothing's hot right now."

Thu May 12 201101:21Armando Galarraga loses third straight
Armando Galarraga yielded four runs in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Giants.
It's the third straight loss for Galarraga, though his ERA is actually a bit lower now than when he started the season 3-0 (from 6.00 to 5.50). He'd be in grave danger of losing his rotation spot if the Diamondbacks had anyone to replace him. They might give Barry Enright another chance in a couple of weeks.

Sat Apr 30 201100:29D'Backs' Galarraga loses to Cubs
Armando Galarraga surrendered three runs in seven innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.
Just like Barry Enright, who stepped up in a victory Thursday, Galarraga was very possibly one more bad outing away from losing his rotation spot. Since he was solid tonight -- even in giving up three homers -- he's likely safe for at least one more turn.

Wed Apr 6 201117:10Galarraga earns win for Diamondbacks
Armando Galarraga earned a win in his Diamondbacks debut after allowing four runs in seven-plus innings Wednesday against the Cubs.
Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano homered off him, but Galarraga limited the damage otherwise and he pitched into the eighth inning to help preserve the bullpen. Because he will give up plenty of homers in Chase Field, Galarraga doesn't have a whole lot of fantasy upside for the Diamondbacks. Still, he should be a serviceable fifth starter.

Mon Mar 28 201113:07Galarraga wins final spot in D'Backs rotation
Armando Galarraga has been awarded the final spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation over Aaron Heilman.
A minor upset down in Arizona. Both pitchers performed very poorly in the Cactus League this spring and that's probably not going to change when the regular season opens. Look for a lot of transition this season at the back end of the Diamondbacks' starting rotation.

Fri Mar 25 201118:18Galarraga pitches six innings against L.A.
Armando Galarraga allowed five hits and three runs in six innings against the Dodgers on Friday.
The finesse righty struck out two and walked none. Set to begin the season in Arizona's bullpen, Galarraga owns a 7.36 ERA with six days to go before the start of the regular season. He should end up getting a decent amount of starts this season, but isn't likely to be a meaningful contributor in NL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 20 201118:27Galarraga turns in poor outing
Armando Galarraga didn't help his cause to be named the Diamondbacks' fifth starter on Sunday, as he allowed six hits and five runs in five innings against the Indians.
Meanwhile, Barry Enright threw five innings of two-run ball against the A's. At this point, the job is Enright's to lose, while Galarraga, and his 8.44 spring ERA, appears destined for the bullpen.

Mon Feb 28 201118:23D'Backs' Galarraga gives up two runs
Armando Galarraga gave up two runs and three hits over two innings in his start Monday against the Rockies.
Barry Enright followed with two scoreless innings. Those two appear to be battling Aaron Heilman for one spot at the back of Arizona's rotation. Galarraga looks like the favorite at the moment, but Enright was penciled in for most of the winter and is very much in the mix.
Mon Jan 24 201116:29D-Backs acquire Galarraga from Tigers
Diamondbacks acquired RHP Armando Galarraga from the Tigers for RHP Kevin Eichhorn and LHP Ryan Robowski.
Because the Tigers were able to swing a trade, they will not be responsible for any of his $2.3 million contract for 2011. Galarraga will likely compete against Barry Enright and Aaron Heilman for the final spot in the starting rotation. We'd normally say a pitcher would get a boost going to the National League, but Galarraga's fly ball rate last season could prove to be troublesome in the desert. He shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
Mon Jan 24 201116:03D-Backs acquire Armando Galarraga from Tigers
According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Diamondbacks have acquired right-hander Armando Galarraga from the Tigers.
As expected. The Tigers will receive prospect right-hander Kevin Eichhorn and left-hander Ryan Robowski in return. Galarraga will presumably compete for the final rotation spot during spring training. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 4.49 ERA and 74/51 K/BB ratio over 24 starts and one relief appearance with the Tigers last season. It's unlikely his fly ball tendencies will lead to much more success at Chase Field.

Mon Jan 24 201112:08D'Backs now 'on verge of' trade for Galarraga
Steve Gilbert of MLB.com heard from a source that the Diamondbacks are likely to have their trade for Armando Galarraga completed on Monday.
The Tigers will get 20-year-old right-hander Kevin Eichhorn and "another player" in return, according to Gilbert's source. Eichhorn is raw and hasn't done a great job of limiting runs at the Single-A level, but his strikeout rates have been good. Galarraga, 29, will probably battle for a spot in the Arizona rotation. He finished with a 4.49 ERA and 1.34 WHIP last season for Detroit and had a perfect game blown by a bad call at first base.

Mon Jan 24 201110:07D'Backs likely to land Galarraga from Tigers
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Diamondbacks are "likely" to land right-hander Armando Galarraga from the Tigers.
The D'Backs and Tigers engaged in heavy trade discussions this weekend, but nothing is done yet nor are reporters calling it close to being complete. Galarraga, 29, posted a decent 4.49 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 144-plus innings for Detroit last season and would probably do better with a move to the National League West. Arizona's Kevin Eichhorn, a 20-year-old righty with good minor league strikeout rates, may be involved in a potential swap.

Sat Jan 22 201118:22D'Backs look at Galarraga
The Diamondbacks and Tigers are discussing an Armando Galarraga trade, reports the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro.
Piecoro says minor league right-hander Kevin Eichhorn is one possibility to be dealt. If the Diamondbacks got Galarraga, he'd battle Barry Enright and Aaron Heilman for the last spot in the team's rotation.

Sat Jan 22 201115:55Report: Pirates interested in Galarraga
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel reports that the Pirates have some interest in the Tigers' Armando Galarraga.
Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski has said Galarraga will likely get dealt, and the Pirates might be one of the teams he's talking to. It makes some sense, as Pittsburgh could use a serviceable innings-eater type. As Biertempfel points out, they made a serious play for Carl Pavano, so money shouldn't be an issue.
