Tue Jun 26 201219:21Johan Santana won't be on innings limit
The Mets will not have Johan Santana on an innings limit this season.
"You bet," manager Terry Collins said. "My conscience is pretty clear we can ride him. As I said in spring training, `If we get 28 starts out of him, we're going to be a pretty good club.'" Right now Santana, who holds a 3.00 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 15 outings, is on pace to make 32 starts and log around 190 innings.

Mon Jun 25 201222:55Santana goes six innings in win over Cubs
Johan Santana allowed two runs over six innings Monday in a loss to the Cubs.
Santana gave up five hits and three walks while striking out six. His lone mistake was a two-run homer by Joe Mather in the fourth inning. Santana struggled in his first two starts following his no-hitter, but has righted the ship recently. He'll carry a 3.00 ERA into a start against the Dodgers this weekend.

Tue Jun 19 201223:40Santana goes six shutout frames for victory
Johan Santana pitched brilliantly in a win over the Orioles on Tuesday, scattering four hits over six scoreless innings.
He picked up five strikeouts while walking just two. Santana had struggled in each of his two outings since his no-hitter on June 1, so it was nice to see him get back on track vs. Baltimore. He's enjoying one of the better starts of his illustrious career, as he now has a 3.00 ERA and 84/28 K/BB ratio over 84 innings. Santana will look to continue his strong season when he takes on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday.

Fri Jun 8 201208:59Johan Santana won't have pitch count
Johan Santana will not be under a pitch count during his start Friday against the Yankees.
Santana threw a career-high 134 pitches in last week's no-hitter, but he received a full week of rest and looked good during a bullpen session Tuesday. The veteran left-hander will be looking for his third straight shutout.

Tue Jun 5 201217:01Santana feels fine after bullpen session
Johan Santana said his bullpen session Tuesday went fine.
No problems were expected, but more attention was paid to it than usual after he threw a career-high 134 pitches in his no-hitter last Friday. Still, the Mets are giving him a full week off before his next start Friday against the Yankees.

Sun Jun 3 201217:09NYM still waiting to finalize week's rotation
Mets manager Terry Collins will make a decision on the week's rotation after Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey throw bullpen sessions Monday.
Santana threw a career-high 134 pitches in his no-hitter Friday and New York wants to push his next start back. As of now, the Mets are planning to start Dillon Gee on Monday, Chris Young Tuesday (his season debut), Dickey on Wednesday and Santana on Thursday. Miguel Batista will be available out of the bullpen starting Tuesday. If Santana or Dickey don't look ready to take their starts, New York will have to come up with an alternative course of action.

Sat Jun 2 201213:21Mets to push back Johan Santana's next start
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets plan to push back Johan Santana ''a day or two'' for his next start.
Santana threw a career-high 134 pitches in his no-hitter Friday, a huge number for someone coming off major shoulder surgery, so Mets manager Terry Collins wants to give him some extra rest. This would all seem to indicate that Miguel Batista (back) will be activated from the disabled list to start next week.

Fri Jun 1 201221:53Santana throws first ever no-hitter by a Met
Johan Santana had a magical night on Friday, tossing the first no-hitter in the 51 year history of the New York Mets, allowing just five walks and striking out eight in the process.
He needed 134 pitches to complete the masterpiece, striking out David Freese on a changeup to end the game. Some may question the integrity of the no-hitter, as a Carlos Beltran line drive ruled a foul ball in the sixth inning appeared to land on the line, but you can't take anything away from Santana and how brilliant he was in this game. Tom Seaver is the only other Met to take a no-hitter into the ninth inning, and did so three times without being able to finish the job. Santana has had quite the resurgence this season, improving to 3-2 on the season and lowering his ERA to a mighty impressive 2.38. He also owns a gaudy 67/21 strikeout to walk ratio through his first 67 innings on the year. He's now thrown two consecutive shutouts, and will look to continue his dominance against the Nationals in Washington on Wednesday.

Sat May 26 201215:38Johan Santana tosses shutout against Padres
Johan Santana tossed a four-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over the Padres on Saturday.
And he needed just 96 pitches to get there. Santana was masterful against the light-hitting Padres, giving up just four singles while striking out seven and walking none. It was his first shutout August 12, 2010 against the Rockies. While his velocity isn't what it once was following shoulder surgery, it hasn't mattered until this point. He'll carry an impressive 2.75 ERA into a start against the Cardinals next Friday.

Fri May 11 201222:49Santana takes no-decision vs. Marlins
Johan Santana yielded three runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday night.
Santana gave up six hits (including a home run) while fanning seven and walking none. All three runs scored in the first inning. The southpaw has a surprising 2.92 ERA and 41/12 K/BB ratio over seven starts this season and remains a must-start every time out in mixed leagues. He'll get the Reds at home next week.

Sat May 5 201219:48Santana stifles D'Backs for first victory
Johan Santana picked up his first victory of the season on Saturday, limiting the Diamonbacks to three runs on nine hits over seven innings of work.
Santana struck out five and walked one in the game. He's been extremely impressive in the early part of the season, with a 2.61 ERA and 34/12 strikeout to walk ratio through his first 31 innings. While he doesn't have quite the velocity that he did in his hey day, he still owns that devastating changeup and his displayed impeccable control thus far. He'll look to continue his resurgence when he squares off against the Marlins in Miami next week.

Sun Apr 29 201219:38Santana goes six scoreless in 11-inning win
Johan Santana limited the Rockies to just two hits in six innings of Sunday's 6-5, 11-inning win at Coors Field.
Santana struck out five and walked three in his second straight quality start. Through five outings and 24 innings, Santana has pitched about as well as could have been reasonably expected after he missed all of 2011, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 29/11 K/BB ratio. He'll get the Diamondbacks at home next weekend.

Tue Apr 24 201222:47Johan Santana K's 11 over 6 2/3 vs. Marlins
Johan Santana whiffed 11 Marlins hitters in a no-decision Tuesday, allowing just three hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings in the 2-1 win.
It's quite a rebound start after he lasted just 1 1/3 frames his last time out. Santana's velocity is still sitting in the high-80s, but he's had no trouble getting swings and misses thus far, having punched out 24 batters over 18 innings. The veteran left-hander will take a 3.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into this weekend's start in Colorado.

Tue Apr 17 201222:07Santana blasted by Braves
Johan Santana pitched very poorly on Tuesday allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits in just 1 1/3 innings against the Braves.
Santana also walked one and didn't strike out a batter. After two very strong starts to begin the season, he took a giant step backwards in this one. He's still been better than advertised in his return from his shoulder injury and subsequent missed season, but hiccups like this are to be expected along the way. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on the Giants next week.

Wed Apr 11 201216:58Santana goes five-plus innings in loss
Johan Santana allowed just one run on five hits over five-plus innings in a loss to the Nationals on Tuesday.
Santana surprisingly batted for himself in the bottom of the fifth inning, only to be pulled after walking the first batter in the top of the sixth. He threw 99 pitches in all while striking out eight, walking three and averaging around 88 mph on his fastball. The veteran southpaw has lasted only five innings in back-to-back starts, but he has allowed just one run while striking out 13 and walking five. His early exits may not lead to many wins, but he should be owned in all formats as long as he's healthy.

Sun Apr 1 201208:43Johan Santana named Opening Day starter
The Mets have named Johan Santana their Opening Day starter.
As expected. The Mets have been pleased with Santana's work this spring -- he has a 3.44 ERA and 13/7 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings -- and, more importantly, the lefty feels healthy, so he's an obvious choice. His velocity is down from previous levels, but he has enough guile to have success with lesser stuff.

Sat Mar 31 201217:15Santana to be named Opening Day starter
Johan Santana (shoulder) reported no issues in Saturday's bullpen session, and is expected to be formally named the Opening Day starter.
The Mets are cautiously optimistic Santana will be able to start Thursday's opener, but acknowledged that they won't risk putting him out there if he's feeling any discomfort. ''He's healthy,'' manager Terry Collins said. ''His arm felt good. His body recuperated from the other day. We're going to sit down with a number of people involved and make something official tomorrow." Santana, 33, will be 19 months removed from shoulder surgery next month.

Wed Mar 28 201209:44Santana (shoulder) done with spring starts
Johan Santana (shoulder) will not make another start during the Grapefruit League schedule.
The Mets intend for Santana to start Opening Day, but they have mapped out an alternative plan to get him ready. The current plan calls for him to throw 40-50 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday and a full bullpen session next Monday before getting the ball in the season opener next Thursday against the Braves. Santana's highest pitch count this spring was 88, so it's unlikely he'll be able to go deep into his first start.

Mon Mar 26 201217:04Johan Santana strikes out five Cardinals
Johan Santana pitched five innings of two-run ball in the Mets' 6-3 win over the Cardinals on Monday.
Santana's velocity was down, especially early, but he rebounded from a two-run first to put together a nice outing, ending the day with five strikeouts. Expectations for Santana should still be fairly mild, but it looks like he'll be worth using in mixed leagues initially.

Tue Mar 20 201217:30Santana (shoulder) to throw 80 pitches Wed.
Johan Santana (shoulder) is slated to throw 80 pitches in his next spring start Wednesday against the Cardinals.
This is just the latest hurdle to cross for Santana, who hasn't appeared in a regular season game since undergoing major shoulder surgery in September of 2010. The 33-year-old southpaw has a 4.91 ERA and 2/4 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings during Grapefruit League action, so the results haven't quite been there, but the important part is that he hasn't experienced any setbacks. As of now, he appears likely to start for the Metropolitans on Opening Day.
