Hence the reason that he wasn't used late in a close game. Bobby Parnell also wasn't used, as he was being saved for a potential save situation. As a result, the Mets entrusted Gonzalez Germen, he of the 5.52 ERA at Triple-A, to pitch the 11th inning of a tied game in his MLB debut. Shockingly, that didn't work out and the Mets ended up dropping the contest to the Pirates. Well played, Terry Collins.

LaTroy Hawkins (finger) tossed a scoreless inning Tuesday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Hawkins retired the side in order via a pop out, strikeout and a ground out. He's expected to make his next appearance Thursday and should rejoin the Angels' bullpen sometime next week barring any setbacks.

Angels placed RHP LaTroy Hawkins on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right pinkie finger.
As expected. Hawkins suffered the injury while catching a comebacker on Sunday, a play which led to his first save since 2009. The veteran right-hander has allowed only two runs (one earned) over 8 1/3 innings this season while striking out four and walking three. No word yet on the status of Scott Downs, who injured his knee Sunday while attempting to field a comebacker of his own.

LaTroy Hawkins hurt his pinkie on the final double play of Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.
It was a terrible day for the Los Angeles bullpen. Closer Scott Downs hurt his knee earlier in the inning trying to avoid a line drive and then his replacement, Hawkins, hurt his hand two pitches later. Hawkins earned the save. The Angels are holding their breath as they wait for test results to come back on both veteran relievers.
