ST. LOUIS -- Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Chris Owings left Sunday's 3-2 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals after breaking the index finger of his right hand while fouling off a pitch.Owings, batting with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the second, tried to avoid a 92-mph fastball from Lance Lynn, but plate umpire D.J. Reyburn said the ball hit the bat.Arizona manager Torey Lovullo argued briefly that Owings was hit by the pitch, but the call stood after a brief conference of the umpires.Daniel Descalso finished the at-bat and drew a walk that gave the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead. Descalso also replaced Owings defensively.It appears Owings will miss a significant amount of time."It's tough," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said of Owings' injury. "He's one of the guys we turn to for leadership. He's helped us get to where we are now."

SS Chris Owings set a career high with his 50th RBI on a first-inning single against the Braves on Saturday. He had 49 RBIs last year. The Diamondbacks' other players with at least 50 RBIs are 1B Paul Goldschmidt (70) and 3B Jake Lamb (67).

SS Chris Owings has hit safely in 21 of his past 23 games and has 10 doubles, six home runs and 19 RBIs since June 6. Owings figures to continue playing an everyday role as Ahmed is expected to miss two months with the hand injury.

INF/OF Chris Owings, who swatted two solo homers Friday vs. Colorado, has hit safely in his last 15 starts. He has gone 19-for-60 (.317) with four homers and nine RBIs. He finished June with a monthly career-high 14 extra base hits.

INF/OF Chris Owings was 2-for-3 with a walk while hitting cleanup, and he extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games with a second-inning double Monday. He is 14-for48 (.292) with two homers during the streak. Owings made his eighth start of the season at second base Monday. He has made 30 starts and shortstop and 16 in right field, playing right field against left-handed pitchers when RF David Peralta gets a day off and SS Nick Ahmed enters the lineup.

2B Chris Owings extended his hitting steak to a season-high eight games by going 1-for-5 with a three-run homer that gave Arizona a 5-1 lead in the third. He's hitting .272 with two doubles, two homers and six RBIs during the streak. Owens is batting .383 in 30 career games at Coors Field with 12 doubles, three homers and 22 RBIs.

SS Chris Owings made a great play on a double play ball that scored the tying run in the ninth inning but prevented further damage. Then he drove in David Peralta with a single in the 14th that proved to be the winning run. "It's just awesome, especially after the way the whole day went, to walk away with a win," he said.

Owings is slashing .321/.358/.493 with five homers, 23 RBIs and nine stolen bases. He has been the swing man in the batting order this season, hitting second, third, fifth and, seventh in starts. He also has started at shortstop, right field and second base and with CF A.J. Pollock (groin) on the disabled list has been told to stay ready there. Owings filled in when Pollock went down last season.

2B Chris Owings returned to the lineup Sunday. He was scheduled to play right field on Saturday night but was scratched from the lineup due to illness. Manager Torey Lovullo said: "He could've played last night in an emergency situation. He felt better as the night went on. Walking in today, he said he felt good. That was part of the plan yesterday -- see how you feel tomorrow and start at second base if you feel OK. And he felt fine."

RF Chris Owings was scratched from the lineup due to illness. Gregor Blanco replaced him, making his first start for the Diamondbacks, one game after his debut with the team.

SS Chris Owings, CF A.J. Pollock and LF Yasmany Tomas were off Sunday, the 10th day of a stretch in which Arizona will play on 17 consecutive days. "Nothing other than giving guys some rest," manager Torey Louvllo said. "They've been grinding and playing hard and playing well. Time to get some of those guys off the bench and let them perform." SS Chris Owings was was 1-for-5 with an RBI single in a six-run eighth inning while hitting leadoff for the first time this season, his fourth different spot in the batting order in five starts. "CO has been the guy I've been bouncing around all over the place, and in my conversations with him he is OK with that," manager Torey Lovullo said. "He's such a team player, and he can readjust and regulate to any role at any time. I feel comfortable knowing he was the right guy for that."

SS/OF Chris Owings received his first day off Friday after going 5-for-16 with three RBIS and two striven bases in the four-game series against San Francisco. Owings had a streak of RBIs in six straight games (dating to last season) stopped in the Giants same Thursday. He has shown his versatility several ways already, starting three games at shortstop and one in right field and hitting second (twice), fifth and seventh in the order. He is an outfield option when the Diamondbacks face a left-handed starter, inasmuch as both David Peralta and Jeremy Hazelbaker hit left-handed.

SS Chris Owings struck out three times before singling in the eighth and ninth innings, the second driving in the winning run off Giants RHP Mark Melancon on Opening Day. Owings hit second in the order, and manager Torey Lovullo said Owings will get the majority of time at shortstop, at least in the early going. "Wherever they want me to play, I'll play," Owings said. He has started the past four Opening Days -- at shortstop in 2014, second base in 2015 and in center field in 2016.

INF Chris Owings was voted by coaches, teammates and staff members the winner of the Luis Gonzalez award. The honor is designed to highlight the player who best exemplifies the talents and spirit of the retired Diamondbacks player. Owings has had his best offensive year (.278 with fuor homers and 44 RBIs). Also, because of injuries, he played nearly 50 games in center field without committing an error.

SS Chris Owings had two hits for the second day in a row after he began the day 6-for-33 (.182) on the current road trip. His average is up to .278.

SS Chris Owings has hit .329 (25-for-76) while hitting safely in 13 of his last 17 games. He is hitting .323 over his last 40 games (53-for-164) with 12 doubles, seven triples, two homers and nine RBIs.

INF Chris Owings became the major league leader in triples before the game started Wednesday. Owings was credited with a triple in the Diamondbacks' Sept. 9 game against the Giants on a play originally ruled an error, giving him a majors' best 10 triples on the season.
